I would check out the JW in Cancun (right next door to the Casa Magna). Amazing hotel, with great rooms, and a fantastic staff.

Count me among the first-time-ever PPs. 131 nights last year (vast majority at FS) with my guess at average spend of $120/nt. I've been plat since 1995, qualified for gold emeritus this year, and am looking forward to seeing what kinds of additional benefits and/or treatment I get as a PP. No expectations--just curious.

Darn I guess this means I'm PP again (i.e. if I lost the status I could spread my stays to other hotels).

And for those that 'track' who gets it and who doesn't, I believe I wound up with 117 nights with 15 of those from the Visa card. Anybody that claims they know why someone got PP is probably wrong. No one here has broken the code and there are examples to disprove the assumptions.

Very true that there are no 'defined' benefits except you get the 'best' service (imagine what Plats and Golds get) and the special reservations line.

The 'undefined' benefits:

- As noted the PP res line will bend over backwards for you. Outstanding customer service. I've had them open up award nights in sold out hotels (Moscow) for me. If you ask them (day or day before travel) to call the hotel and let them know you will be coming they will call and ask the hotel to try and give you an upgrade.
- Suites? On award travel (minimum points) I get upgraded on international trips to the best suites in the hotel regularly. The international hotels are much more aware of what PP is than domestic hotels.
- Suites part 2. Usually get a suite. I've had the Presidential Suites a few times.
- Problem resolution - if there is something wrong and you are the type to call the about a problem, manager will fix the problem quickly.
- Special offers - There are special deals for PP's. My wife found a Spa day for 40k points at the hotels that have Spas. Special awards for Europe - 7 days at any 3 hotels for 150k points (i.e. any category), certs for 2-3-2 days.

What should they change about the program:

- If PP's are so special, why call it something that sounds like Platinum. There is a good chance that when you check in the desk clerk doesn't really know what a PP is and just thinks you are Plat.
- The PP card is basically the same design/color as the Plat card. In fact the 'premeir' part has practically worn off of my card from last year. A buddy of mine said they were 'PP' as well. I pulled out my card to ask if he had 'one of these' his was exactly the same except no 'premier' on it. So if you combine the 1st issue with the card issue pulling out your card does nothing.
- Domestic hotel service levels seem to be the same as when I was plat so the 'best' service is hard to define.
- No points bump. So your only motivation to keep the level is the status and the 'undefined' benefits.

Soft Landing ?

I guess I will see what happens on 2/28.
I did not even hit Plat for 2007.

I have been PP for the last 3 years and Plat since 1997.

It would be nice to let me keep my PP status.

You must be kidding - you didn't stay the required 75 nights in 2007, and expect to retain PLT Premier - after beng PP the last 3 years??

I can certainly understand them giving you a soft landing to PLT, yet PP really seems a bit much...

Even though the website says "suites not included", I think you will find that (at the resorts especially), they will give you a suite when they can.

Staying at the JW Marriott in Rio de Janiero in 2004, I was upgraded to the Presidential suite. I only realized two years later when I was going through "old" Marriott cards that I was Platinum Premier in 2004. Had no idea since my Marriott stays dropped significantly that year as I switched to Hilton with change to a new client....

PP Level Just Noticed

Seems I have just noticed this afternoon new information on my account and level upgrade, albeit I didn't know how long it's been there but have achieved the sought after PP level. Confirmed through MHGS today it was levied 1/13/08 and not gifted ;). I'm obviously blind  you could say or never really thought about it thinking I'd have to have an add'l 1.75 million points more to qualify. (only have 1.175m now) Such a pleasant surprise Socrates and I gotta tell ya I LOVE MARRIOTT! ^ WWW.MARRIOTT.COM

Historically started my undevoted haphazard stays with Marriott in 1988 at < 10nts/yr until I boosted and started staying faithfully and exclusively with them of >125 stays in '04, '05, '06 and '07. Stays in 2007 were 126 with a division of 88% FSM and 12% RENN. Projected stays in '08 will be 132. YTD 11. Average $/night $138.00+ abhorent taxes

Best of luck to you. Patience really is virtuous.

Congrats to all of you ...

This is something I will never go after; I hate levels that the goals are not indentified clearly. It’s like shooting in the dark, after I hit 75 I work on my Starwood.

Sweet Suite

Just checked into the Provo Marriott for four nights. All nights moved to Presidential. I love it. Not sure if because of PP level but either way I LOVE MARRIOTT! :) WWW.MARRIOTT.COM Go Willard J.

Funny, I had mid 170's last year, with 95% at FS. My boss had mid-190's, with 95% FS and a TON of roomservice/meetings/extra rooms, and did not make it.

He and I both had 365+ nights in 2006 as we both had offices (rooms) in the same FS hotel.

Go figure?!
