Agreed. One of my favorite int'l properties, not limiting to just Ws or SPG properties. Location may not be the most ideal, but the property itself and the staff are top notch. Redefines customer service.

Amenity choice is movie, 500 points, or a baseball hat (which I'm wearing).

I was trying to book a C&P night for 8/26 and noticed that there is no C&P availability at the W Hong Kong until the end of the calendar. Has anyone else noticed this?
I also tried calling in, but the agent couldn't see anything either. |

Interesting to note that. On our check-in last week we were told that 500 points was the only option of amenity. I still would have selected it based upon that selection, but it was still bad information at the time.
An excellent stay, btw, probably my best SPG stay all year. -FlyerBeek |
Personally , I just don't like this hotel. This is my 3rd stay in 2 years, and I just don't like the staff over-trying to be everything they're not...
I've stayed at other Ws before but this hotel just doesn't do it for me. I get physically ill when I enter the elevators up to the lobby. I have to do my check in by the side as I cannot stand to be in front of the pixel LCD screen. The attitude of the staff in the Kitchen leaves a lot to be desired... But overall I am sure many people like the hotel and the hipness of it all... I just like the subtle comforts of luxury without being too obnoxious I guess. :( |
W Hong Kong
I'm staying here on points - any thoughts/ tips? I'm Plat.
Fun hotel? |

I stayed for 1 night only at the W Hong Kong 2 days ago, I was upgraded to either a Marvellous or Wow Suite (I am not sure which it was) and I was seriously impressed. The room product is great and I liked the restaurant and bar too along with the proximity to Elements mall and the Airport Express. Overall a really great property and I was sad to leave to move to the Sheraton Hong Kong Towers (also a good property but in a slightly different genre) to hook up with family.
I have always been slightly wary of W's (this was my first W experience) as I was worried about upgrade potential. Whilst the location isn't optimal for me, this property is now my first choice in Hong Kong and I look forward to my next visit. |
I was there during Golden Week (duh...) but it was also my birthday when i checked out on a 1 night stay with the earlier weekend promotion on SPG. FYI, I'm SPG Gold.
In general, the hardware was pretty nice as usual: except - the ipod dock wasnt working in my room and my gf and i wanted some music besides the TV. When we told the hotel this problem they did not offer if we could get/borrow some CDs... Soft product: I dont know if i had too much expectations, but in general I think service to get out of their comfort zone was lacking. I emailed ahead to ask if they could do anything regarding a birthday, but the email reply did nothing more than acknowledgement with notice of a full house. Absolutly noone bothered to make me feel like i would be having a bday, and only that when my gf called they reluctently offered us a "complimentary cake". Apparently the Whatever/Whereever staff asked my gf what'd we want, except turning down the offer of having a small bottle of wine, and still keep asking (Now I wonder, what am i supposed to say? A free sunday brunch w free flowing booze?). Clock struk 12 and there was a cake of the size of a muffin (without the buldge up bit), a candle and a box of matches. The person who took in the cake did not say anything - so why is he here? Just to bring in a cake cuz we requested?... Then there was the ipod problem that couldnt get fixed in 5 minutes with a quick check... and we didnt want a technician in for maybe some 20-30 minutes, at midnight. At least they bothered to let me check out at 3pm cuz i asked if i could finish watching motoGP which start at 2 (They've been pulling that the hotel is full so i cant have late check out...) I am still wondering, is it just me who is being extra annoying? |
i'll be staying at the W HK on two free weekend night awards in the beginning of december. from previous recent experiences, what are the chances that i will get upgraded to a suite as a SPG Platinum staying on a free night award?

Im reading that there are hits and misses with advance emails - does anyone have any solid email contacts that they have found helpful? I've emailed the GM but his secretary responds acknowledging my request for a room supplement or comp upgrade with a response the hotel is booked full. I was offered a room supplement to a suite for retail without any discount. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Unless one pays for it, there aren't very many tricks in the book.

Plat Benefits at W?
Could someone help advise if the hotel gives free breakfast to plats? Thanks
