Or here's another suggestion. Pay for the room out of your own pocket if you want to stay there!

I'm certain anywhere you travel there's a Motel 6 or HoJo that's cheaper than the Sheratons you might stay in, so why not save the taxpayers a little more money since that was your mission at foot.

Sorry. I didn't make it clear. Yes. If I am on vacation, I will definately consider W Hong Kong as my top choice of hotels and I indicated that clearly in the email to the manager.

When elected officials travel to Alaska or small towns, Motel 6 is definately a popular choice.

As public employees, we don't do excess by staying in Luxury Hotels. We also don't do the other extreme and stay in the cheapest motel. We stay in the average price, decent hotel closest to the place of business. If Motel 6 is smack downtown, and very cheap compared to a Sharaton(like over 30% cheaper) and they are acceptably comfortable (meaning you can have a good night sleep). I will have no problem giving up Sharaton for Motel 6 on that occasion.

Folks, we're here to discuss hotels, not to attack posters. Let's carry on, discussing what we like and dislike about this hotel, not about the folks who comment on the hotel.

Not true.. as of 10/16 they havent secured the permit to open the wet bar as yet and by all indications by the staff there its not very imminent.
You can however order drinks at the pool from the attendants which I presume is handled by the room service department (the attendents do have drinks menus readily at hand)

Apologies, my bad. I got too excited and misinterpreted what my contact said. I've gone to clarify, and what you posted is entirely correct. What she actually meant was that they are now allowed to actually serve food and drink at the pool with someone up there to take orders, whereas before this wasn't a possibility. There is also apparently a smaller menu to order from at the pool area.

Does there anyone have the review for the restaurant in W HK?
Are they worth the money?
They are not cheap.

Any thought and feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

We only had drinks there;) but frankly I have never had more than a snack at the perhaps dozen or so W hotels I have stayed in worldwide.

During our stay if we wanted a meal close by we ate in the Caffe Vergnano (breakfast) and had lunches at Olive ( Middle-Eastern) and Joia (Italian) which are on the roof level of the mall (easy access cutting through the HMV store) both were quite good but not inexpensive.
Theres also a Spanish/tapas place and a Japanese place in the same location.

I've had good experience with the bar food, tried 3 of the dishes. I'll second MIKESILV, with the restaurants in Elements Mall you should have enough choices if you don't feel like getting out.

Personally I found the Italian on the roof (Joia) below-average and way overpriced for Italian in HK, compared to Grappa's (also Italian restaurant, in Pacific Place Mall). The places downstairs in Elements Mall were quite good, Sala Thai, etc.

Anyone have a good recommendation for breakfast in Elements Mall?

Before 1000 am (when most of the shops open) your choices are pretty limited there is the Starbucks which quite big and serves some egg sandwiches and other hot items, a place next the ice rink with limited menu cafeteria style... cheap and you get what you pay for :) and the Caffe Vergnano just around the corner when exiting from the W into the mall.
We ate there a couple mornings not a huge menu but the bagel sandwiches and pastries were quite good.

There is however a really fantastic French patisserie La Creation de Gute which opens later and just looking at the stuff some quite unusual will make you drool...not sure if they have any seating however.

Thanks, Mike. If the patisserie opens at 10 sounds like it's worth waiting for.

I've booked a wonderful room for tomorrow using a free weekend certificate and I got preassigned a cool corner room. Has anyone stayed at a cool corner room lately? What does it look like?

I took a quick ride in the free W Shuttle over to The Hong Kong Cultural Centre for a dynamite Hong Kong Dim Sum breakfast at Serenade. Excellent food and a fantastic view. It opens at 9am.

The patisserie is quite good. Nice, flaky, buttery croissants.

Don't forget the supermarket, I don't know what time they open. They have several food bars.

And, if you can stand it, McDonalds is way down in the basement. A good alternative and popular (crazy popular) with the locals for breakfast...

Oversized Twin Beds?????

has anyone been in one of W Hong Kong rooms (fabulous room and below) that shows up online as " 2 Oversized Twins"? Are these oversized lengthwise or width-wise? Can one of these twins fit two kids?

Excellent stay!!!

Stay Report at the W Hong Kong…

Arrival at the hotel
The taxi dropped us off at the entrance of the hotel. The bell desk personnel came up and took our luggage and escorted us to the lobby elevators. The check-in lobby is on the 6th floor.

Check-In
No wait at the desk. The rep was very attentive and welcomed me to the hotel. Recognized platinum status and said I was upgraded from a Wonderful to a Fabulous Harbour View. I inquired about a suite and was told ALL the upgradeable suites were unavailable for the night. I pressed for a suite and was later told that they are willing to make an exception and upgrade me ^^^ to an non-platinum-upgradeable Marvelous Suite but need to return after a certain time. I thanked the rep for asking the “welcome manager,” instead of just flat out denying a suite upgrade. Offered amenity points or W gear.

Accommodation
The Marvelous Suite was pretty sweet. Just as pictured on the W Hong Kong website, the room was a corner room facing both the Hong Kong Island and “Cargo Ship” View. Typical W contemporary décor and fully automated room throughout (including lights, blinds, different sleep settings, etc.)

This suite had a half bath by the entrance for guests, a wet bar, a full length super long sofa and comfy beanbag chair-like sofa, large built-in flat screen tv, ipod dock and Bang+Oluf speakers. The living room had views of Victoria Harbour minus a big building smack in the middle (but still great views).

The bedroom had a big comfy W king size bed, work desk, flat screen tv, ipod dock and B+O speakers.

The bathroom had double-faucets in a single large sink. There is a semi-walk-in closet with a safe. The large soaking tub is big enough for two-three people with window views out to the waterfront where all the cargo ships are sitting. TV built-in to the ways for viewing from the soaking tub. The shower was a rainforest-style showers + European-style body jets. Standard Bliss amenities EXCEPT it was supersized to giant bottles.

Restaurants
Didn’t have a chance to try any of the restaurants as this is Hong Kong. There is a café, a standard W bar, and a restaurant serving brazilian barbeque.

Recreation
All I can say is WOW!!! (maybe it’s just me)
The Bliss Spa is on the 72nd Floor with reasonably priced services (didn’t try)
The Fitness room is on the 73rd Floor with lots of machines and weights, stocked with bottled water and fruits.
The Pool and Jacuzzi is on the 76th Floor. The infinity pool was amazing and overlooked the harbour (minus that big building across the way) and the infinity Jacuzzi overlooked the shipping channel part of the bay.

Wow…what an experience…

Location
On top of the Kowloon Metro Station as well as the Kowloon HKIA Airport Express Kowloon stop. The hotel is also within the Elements Mall area with a lot of mid to high-end stores.

Other miscellaneous
* HK$140 per day for internet wired/wireless in room. Complimentary hour of wireless in the living room on the 6th floor.
* Complimentary shuttle to shopping/dining near Middle Road, Harbour Place, etc. and the Sheraton.

Overall a great experience and can’t wait to return to W Hong Kong next time I’m in town.

I was ultimately upgraded to some sort of suite (at the end opposite the corner facing the water) and was told a further UG to a nicer (corner water ?) might be available for an extra charge (my recollection is about an extra USD $100, per night) -- not sure of the names/terminology.
