Checking dates months ahead doesn't show anything besides Marvelous, Spectacular and Fabulous Rooms...

i use my corporate set rate & get the options to book all types of suites on spg.com....the ones i can see right now are the fantastic suite, marvelous suite, wow suite & extreme wow suite....

Airport pick up

The W is offering to meet my group (4 people) in their Audi 7 for @ 750 HKD. Is this a reasonable fee? How much for a cab from the airport to the hotel?

Thanks

Just finished a pretty good stay there.

Plus points:
- nice view of ships
- big room (I think it may have been a suite upgrade but they didn't mention that)
- attached mall is good (and restaurants on 3rd floor outside)
- amazing bed
- staff were pleasant and helpful by chinese standards
- excellent airport connection (train is literally 100 metres from arrivals exit), and goes direct to the hotel building (although you have to walk about 10mins through the mall first)
- the two queries I sent in advance were answered promptly and correctly

Minus points:
- I thought the whole "wow" and "wonderful" thing was a bit irrelevant and slightly annoying (but I'm not very design oriented)
- roof pool a bit underwhelming
- no big space in communal areas
- made the margarita wrong in the lobby bar
- no comb in room, only 2 bottles of water, slippers too small, no knife
- taxi needed to get anywhere (but not too expensive)
- mp3 speaker connection only works for apple ipods not other mp3 players - for example the St Regis in Singapore has a generic audio input not one that only works on Apple devices

overall: 4*

Well, not entirely true. There is an MTR subway station in the mall. The MTR is quite convenient to travel around Hong Kong.

That's about 3 times the price of a taxi ride from the airport to the W .

It's difficult to cut an apple with a teaspoon

point taken about the MTR, although many locations are far quicker to get to by taxi.

Hong Kong cab drivers provide good, honest service at a great price. However they most certainly do not, in my experience, drive Audis!

If you dont mind the walk through the mall, the other - probably faster - option is to take the Airport Express train which stops very close to the W at Kowloon station. Its HK$100 per person, from memory.

Upgrade Question

I am SPG Gold, not Plat. I have reserved 4 nights at the W HKG using C+P (a great deal, in my view). What, if anything, can I do to secure (or negotiate) an upgrade in advance?

(I stay frequently at the Parker Meridien in NYC, which upgrades me automatically no matter what, but I have little experience with W properties.)

Thanks.

P.S. This is my and my wife's first trip to HKG. We're spending 4 nights at the W because we have a profusion of Starwood points and would feel stupid not using them. But we're also going to spend at least a couple of nights elsewhere, just to mix it up. Right now, we have 2 nights booked at the FS, via AmEx FHR. Good choice?

Yes, but Hong Kong taxis are among the most comfortable and spacious of any fleet in the world

I had a great two-night SPG50 stay here a few weeks back. I had received a pre-arrival upgrade to a Fantastic Room, and upon arrival at about 13:00 was offered a Fantastic Room immediately or a Fantastic Suite around 15:30... chose the later. Room was great and the service was excellent throughout the stay... hotel was a touch off the beaten path, but the walk to Nathan Road was only about 15 minutes and, as mentioned, one stop to Central. I will be back next time I'm in HKG.

Can you share that how much you paid for SPG50 room?
Thanks
