Westins have turned off one of the heavenly shower heads for water conservation. The sign explains the reason and that you can open the second shower head by the tab next to the showeer heads.

Lounge Closed on Weekends

I called the hotel to inquire about Executive Lounge on weekends. I was told that the Lounge has been closed on weekends for a while now. I'm trying to confirm if they offer breakfast in the restaurant to Plat members in lieu of the Lounge.

I just stayed here a week ago, and they did not offer free breakfast on the weekend when the lounge was closed. I was fine with this - as Plat, we were upgraded to a spacious suite and the service was great, so I am a big fan of this hotel.

For other weekend breakfast options, there is a Starbucks in the lobby, and a Cosi about two blocks away. Hope this helps!

Cosi is quite a trip down King St... it would be a lengthy walk.

There is a whole foods around the corner (10 minute walk).

They also do not open the lounge on most Monday mornings.

The lounge is, however, very nice when open. Especially in the evenings.

I'm staying here with three colleagues this week. All three are platinums, and all three of us had our own rooms. You think you get treated bad as a platinum at other places?

1. I didn't get upgraded, which is really not that big of a deal in it's self. However, all three of us were downgraded. All three booked King rooms, and we were all three put in double rooms. There were no King bed's available.

2. One of the rooms smells like an ash tray. But since the hotel is sold out this week they can't move the colleague to a room that has not been smoked in.

3. The valet took more than 30 minutes to bring my car out this morning. The parking garage is under the hotel.

As the above poster mentioned, the lounge is great both in the morning, and especially at night. The staff is awesome. The treatment of platinums just isn't what it should be.

I'm confused. Your first sentence and second sentence don't make since. I take it you've already had this stay or you had a previous stay and are returnig to the property?
  1. In regard to the room types, you should get the bedding type you book. You need to call CCS immediately.
  2. The property is 100% smoke free. Why/How would you be put in a smoking room? If the room smelled, could it have been mold? I would have demanded to be moved or walked. You need to call CCS immediately.
  3. Did you ask why? And why is this related to Platinum's instead of just poor staffing?

I'm trying to understand your post....so, if the property is sold out and there are no so to speak upgrades, how is there Platinum treatment "not what it should be"?

I is bad at grammar sometimes.

Just to clarify, this is the second night of a four night stay. In reference to the platinum treatment, I was speaking about the downgrade from king to two doubles, and the refusal to get a room that did not reek of smoke.

No I did not ask why the valet was slow. It seems to be a common theme among DC hotels. I figured if I was .....ing about the rooms, I should throw the valet portion in also.

Have you spoken to the GM or a Manager on duty? I would start there then contact CCS if you cannot be assigned a room with the bed type you specified.

Not that this helps your complaint, but for background information, this hotel has a very large contingency of PLTs who are here weekly, so I would never expect an upgrade during the week, and even though it is not an excuse, the staff might be slightly jaded by Platinum since most of the guests at this hotel are.

They also apparently have some contract with the Military which takes up several of the upper floors at times (by contract requirement ), forcing them to downgrade even their most valued PLTs to lower floors.

That said, a double bed and room that smelled of smoke is definitely unacceptable, and I would ask for compensation or recommendation.

As far as the valet, it has always been horrible. It has been brought to the attention of management several times AFAIK but never been resolved. For next time, you can usually find street parking next to the hotel and should be fine as long as you are out by 8 or so.

Great time at Westin

Started off by winning gate lottery and first class seats for myself and wife...sweet!

Found street parking - starting off to be a good day for us.

No line for check-in - can it get better?

Check-in agent was great, recognized status, asked if 500 points is ok (already posted by the way), and told us we were upgraded to an executive suite! - No way this day is going this well? Yes it is...but wait...

Front desk told us the lounge will be open Sunday morning and we were welcome to have breakfast and drinks! - They have my loyalty and the next few trips to Alexandria/DC will be at the Westin!
King Street Metro is within EASY walking distance.

Don't know if lounge is open for good or specific weekends, but made us happy!

This was a great trip with constant upgrades.

Kudos to the Westin staff (all FD staff, lounge lady, and doormen)

I checked in yesterday and so far a great experience.

I am staying for 3 nights - A consultants schedule ^

After giving my name to check in, I was recognized as a Plat customer and offered my 500 bonus points. After that, I was handed an envelope for three vouchers for continental breakfast at the Jamieson Grill. I was also told about lounge access.

I didn't get an upgrade but have a nice corner room. I tried the breakfast this morning and it was perfect for me. They offered some breakfast pastries, juice, coffee, and fresh fruit. Tomorrow I am going to try to substitute the pastries for some toast.

So far I am really happy with my stay. I was staying at the Westin in DC and while they offered excellent service, the hotel was not as updated as Alexandria.

I agree. I had a stay mid last year and was treated well. I was GLD at the time but they put me in a nice room on the SPG floor. This is a new hotel. Very light. Nice restaurant. I liked the location close enogh to King Street to walk but not so close as to have a lot of noise.

That's odd. I've stayed here a number of times, as recently as a month ago, and never had continental breakfast vouchers for the Jamieson Grill. Was the lounge closed for some reason while you were there? The breakfast in the lounge is halfway decent as far as US lounges go, so I'm surprised they would give vouchers to the Jamieson Grill.

I stay at this property every week, it is a great location and one of my favorites but whoever is managing the joint is a bit below par. Room service trays are frequently left out for much too long and the hallways are often a bit dirty.

Still, the front desk staff is top notch and the cleaners are great, I've never had so many thank you notes for leaving a cleaning tip.

For those staying here, there are parking garages all around the area that offer a better deal than the hotels parking rates and as a bonus you don't have to deal with the valets who are in my opinion some of the worst I have encountered at any SPG property.

Also, avoid the Thai place around the corner. Amazingly terrible, but the whole foods is not much of a walk.

The lounge was open but my corp rate includes breakfast so thats why I get the vouchers. I tried the bfast in the lounge today.

Fresh fruit, mini bagels, scrambbled eggs, oatmeal, cereal, bottled water, juice, sbux tea and coffee.

The grill was good because the pastries were amazing. The lounge is great because it is slightly healthier and it's buffet style.
