STARPICKS IS A NON-REFUNDABLE RATE.
Nice inexpensive way to parlay the 3,000 points and it would seem the hotel hopping bonus (up to 6,000 points) as both are prominently displayed on the hotel offers page.
I know that William indicated that some hotels may deem these mutually exclusive and not allow both, but since this hotel has both sign up offers on their hotel page, it would seem that this is not the case for this property.
I likely will hop between this property and the Westin Arlington Gateway that has a refundable $99 rate for these dates, apparently also including New Year's Eve, as well.
Enjoy!

What would you guys do without me
Transportation
If you are coming from DCA, hop on the blue line towards Franconia. ... Get off at King St Station. Once you get off the station, it might be confusing, so walk AWAY from the George Washing Monument and towards Diagonal and Duke. Once you are on Duke, look for Dulany and make a left. Then, make a right onto Jamieson. Westin is on your left on Courthouse. There are plenty of offstreet parking spaces available should you take a car.

Can someone tell me how much I could expect to pay for a taxi between DCA and the hotel and between the King St. metro station and the hotel? Also, does the hotel offer a shuttle to/from DCA? Many thanks.

Taxi Prices
I didn't see any indication of a shuttle from DCA, but it's possible I wasn't paying enough attention.
Nice hotel, nicely upgraded rooms, nice 3k bonus, but a bit far from DC for me to go back.

I'm guessing since I haven't taken the taxi between the places you've mentioned, but based on distance, I'd say $12 from DCA and $5 from King Street. Please override me anyone that has more direct experience.

And currently there are no plans for an airport shuttle to/from DCA. I asked the GM.

Online map of area around Westin Alexandria
This web-page has a GREAT interactive map of the area around the Westin Alexandria, complete with restaurants, local sights to see, etc, etc. Very cool!!!
http://www.thejamieson.com/location.html
It's the Location page on the Jamieson condo sales web-site (the top floors of the Westin Alexandria are residential condos). I stayed at the Westin again last week, and checked out this web-site after seeing signs for the condo devt.
(The Westin is at the exact same spot on the map as the condo devt -- the big "J" logo.)

I live just across the street in the Carlyle Condo's from this Westin and it really has added value to the area. More restaurants are on the way, parking on weekends should be real easy as the area empties out, however, on week days you are limited to two hour parking. Bartenders (Tim& Bob) are very nice, as is Rachel the young lady that works as the server in the bar.The bar managers (Andrew, Robert and Ishmael) are very helpful and friendly. They now remind me to give them my SPG number when I come in for drinks. One down spot is the restaurant food. The head chef is trying to do to much with the food-- Please just keep the menu simple and people will be happy. Let me know if your at the hotel-I'll meet you in the bar!!

Update: The Westin now operates a shuttle van but only offers rides between the hotel and the King Street (blue/yellow line) metro station. It is by request only so you'll need to call the hotel and have them pick you up if you are at the Metro station.

Cross-posted from Travelzoo -- Westin Alexandria for $99 Thur-Sun til Aug 2 as I think the information would be good for the master thread as well.
The food in the lounge in Alexandria is the same as it has been since it's opened. I've stayed once every couple of months of months since they opened about a year and a half ago (a total of 5-6 times or so) and haven't seen much of a change.
In the evenings they'll have a couple of decent cheeses, a sliced meat of some sort, a hot appetizer, juice, water, and soda. No alcoholic beverages, though evidently they do have them in the back for a price if you ask the attendant.
Breakfast is a number of boxed cereals, as well as a bowl of some sort of "house" cereal that I thought was good, but couldn't place the brand (i.e. in a large bowl that you scoop out of). They also have a couple toppings for cereal (raisins, dried cranberries, couple other items). Some pastries and juice is also available. For those that like oatmeal (I'm not a fan), that isn't available.
Overall, the lounge is comfortable, though not too large. I've rarely really seen it all that crowded though.
As far as non-lounge food goes at the Westin Alexandria, the Trademark Bar (cutesy name since the Patent and Trademark Office is nearby) has pretty good food at a decent price, particularly for a hotel restaurant.
In particular I enjoyed the clam chowder, which had a very good flavor, though it wasn't quite as thick as I normally like it. As well the chorizo pizza had a good combination of chopped chorizo and mushrooms, though the chorizo seemed to be concentrated near the center of the pizza a bit which made it a bit floppy in the middle. The beef sliders didn't fair quite as well. The bun was a well-made, buttery brioche, but the beef itself was overcooked to my taste, which tends towards rare/medium-rare, so others may enjoy them quite well.
The bar also has a number of well priced flights of wine which are always fun to try.

I had a brief overnight stay here in August. At first, a suite was not forthcoming. After a bit of cajoling, I managed to secure an upgrade to a suite. It appeared more like a Junior Suite, as it was essentially a bedroom with a large, adjacent space containing couches and chairs. The hotel itself is nicely furnished in the new, contemporary Westin style.
Breakfast in the lounge was as treznor described it - juices, some cereals, yoghurt, and pastries/bread/bagels. The lounge itself is not especially large, but it was open on the weekend (^).
In all, it was a fairly pleasant stay. If I find myself overnighting by DCA in the future, I would not hesitate to stay here again.
Below are some photos of the suite I was given:

Suite Bed

Suite Work Desk

Suite Bath/Shower Combo
