I have called AMEX to FedEx me a new card with the new designs, and I have just gotten them. I must say at first glance they seem blend and boring, but looking at it more and more they seem pretty cool, and my wife being a purple lover loves it.

datapoint: I was approved for the SPG Biz 25k offer on July 27th, I called in very courteously today asking to match my offer to the 30k and mentioned that I'm loyal to amex (member since 06'), that chase has matched my offers previously and that I plan on keeping the card for a while and without hesitation he matched my offer, and said he will transfer me the extra 5k for my next statement (ends in a 2 days), since the 25k has already posted. He noted because I was a "good standing" member that he will match the offer.

Further data point - I called and asked to speak to a supervisor who told me there was nothing she could do, but she would forward my request to their marketing team who'll review it.
Sounds like kicking the can down the road.
She couldn't do anything else.

Received spg points today as "SPG AX DEFAULT." From older post over a year ago, it looks like it could be referral points. Can anyone confirm this? If not, what does the sign up bonus category post as?

Most of us are assuming it's referral bonuses, myself included.

My previous referral bonuses in the past, however, have posted as: SPG AX MBR REFERRAL - CONSUMER

How long did it take for the referral to post your account after approval?

Is the AMEX SPG Biz card churnable? I'm reading that it's churnable after 18 months and then some said that it's not.

Mine was a few days - less than a week. Before the card came.

yes-- all amex biz cards are churnable, and personal are once per lifetime.

I would read the terms of the offer:

Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have or have had this product within the last 12 months.
This means you can reapply 12 months after you cancel the identical card.

FYI - was thinking of canceling my SPG Amex since I now use Chase Sapphire, don't travel with SPG as much and the hike in fee to $95. I called up SPG to cancel and they promptly offered me 10k points to not cancel right now. I accepted the offer and was told I can keep the points even if I decide to cancel before my renewal fee posts in October.

Similar experiences with SPG re: cancellations or was this agent full of it?

Eujeanie Aug 18, 2015 5:05 pm

rkj, that is very interesting.

When is your actual renewal time?

Mine is in December (maybe November?) but I was going to wait until then and then cancel with no expectation of anything, but heck I'll take 10,000 points to keep it for a few more months. Might be calling tomorrow :)

Edit: October, I see it now!
