when I checked out this afternoon (5/3) I asked and was told my room 1116 is a Jr suite. A very nice 1 at that. I from time to time tried to look at some otehr rooms but they really frowned on it . Anyway 1114 is alsoa Jr suite witha complete room diveder but not as modern as mine was and looked like it needed to be redone Tried look to it. 1109 is a full suite separate rooms for teh bedroom and living room Most of teh rooms in teh east tower (the 1 with the elevator) are small . Funny they are SPG Rooms and get it seems better toilities
I still dont get why this place is considered a Resort, its simplya Hotel in a non-resort city. If this is a Resort then all the Hotels in Philly and Boston should be as well. The Hotel is very non-descret from the outside and I wish *W wouldnt allow them to use the pic of a Temple on their website, I honestly thought tahts what at least aprt of the Hotel looked like. The Marriott in SIN has a modern building with that kind of a roof, so wouldnt a person think the pic on the home page is actually what part of the Hotel looks like
Had a great stay and if I should fing myself back in Kyoto I would return there. any time I walked up on the SPG carpet they ran from all sides to help me even thou the reg line was a mile long, alot of US Hotels (hello LAX) can learn from this

Japanese Style room?
Hi I was thinking of reserving the Japanese Style room at the Westin Miyako for my stay in Dec but not sure what it is like besides a single pic on the hotel website. Can anyone give any advice on what it is like compared with a normal deluxe king size room and the views and facilities in it etc?
Many thanks

there was apathway that was leading from the main building up this path to these buildings that looked like Japanese houses. Some looked attached others detached not many at all. It was sort of built into the side of the hill = no views at all to speak of. Think of a tiny village or a bunch of villas ata time share. Nevers aw anyone walking to or from them
Sorry thats about all I can help you out with. I was on the 11th floor facing towards Gion and was able to make out the zoo area and some of the city alot better then an alley way but nothing to write home about.
btw I saw tehir Japanese garden from another window in the lounge an ddidnt waste my time actually going into it. I did have a great view of some sort of what looke dlike the hotels soccer field
Too many great places to see within a short walk of the hotel to spend any real time at the hotel itself

my 3 day Westin Kyoto stay
Stayed at the Westin Kyoto on points last week... great service - checkin for plats is on the 10th floor (during open hours) - we got there early so they kept our bags while we went to grab lunch. Shuttle is prompt and on-time - can be found downstairs at the JR station by the bus terminals.
Breakfast can be had in the lounge or downstairs in the buffet - we did the buffet everyday so can't comment on the lounge breakfast - but evening drinks/hors d'oeuvres are great.
Some other points of interest:
- if you're tired of bus tours I suggest renting a scooter and cruise around the temples ... just take your international drivers license (even then they didn't ask for it) - http://rentalbike.leotanimoto.co.jp/index_e.html
- day bus/metro passes are 600 yen - makes sense to get that to move around
- if you're craving a pizza this place is good - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Goichi...41741585926694
few other restaurants close by as well that are chic/not overly expensive

Just a quick report on my stay here last weekend:
Had a long weekend in Osaka - so booked into Kyoto for friday night. The rate was very reasonable for friday (15k) - but much higher for Sat & Sun (it was a holiday weekend in Japan). So just stayed the 1 night w/ my gf.
Arrived ~1 pm - checkin was no problem. Not busy so went right to the front at the Platinum desk. Efficient check-in and rec'd upgrade to a "Miyako" suite (i think that's what she said). Confirmed breakfast included + free Internet.
They escorted us up to the room - very nice, Heavenly Bed, large bathroom, walk-in closet/sitting room, etc. The guest services lady was leaving and my gf commented "oh, they left the connecting door open". She said - "no, that's your suite". So we go thru. OMG, it became the largest hotel suite I have ever stayed in. A huge room - with an 8 person dining table, separate tv/sitting area + work station area. Of course, you always get these on 1 night stays, right? Never get this kind of upg when I saty for 1 week...lol We never even went in there the whole time - except maybe to use the powder room.
Used the lounge for evening cocktails - was very busy and we had to go sit upstairs. They brought a plate of appetizers - the only other thing out was cheese & crackers + the help yourself bar.
Breakfast was available in the lounge or the cafe rest. (2nd floor - AquaBlu, is the name, i believe). We chose the full buffet - very nice (although not as nice as the St. Regis, Osaka).
They only gave us late check-out until 1:30, as it was a holiday weekend. That was fine we had been planning to head back to Osaka by 2:00 anyway.
Took the free shuttle to Sanjo station and used the Keihan line back to Osaka.
All in all, a very nice stay - would definitely return again.

non-smoking rooms not avail for points?
I've looked through the past posts but didn't find information regarding non-smoking rooms.
We're using points to book a stay here in early June. If you check the no-smoking option on the search in SPG reservations the points rooms are not available and you have to book more expensive rooms for which one has to pay. We emailed SPG and they concurred no non-smoking available but did put a note in our reservation indicating we required non-smoking rooms.
Any one have more recent experiences getting award nights in a non-smoking room and how they did it? I checked other periods in the next 8 months and did not find non-smoking rooms available for points.

Having stayed at this property a couple of times, including very recently, it is very customer focussed. If you were to email them in advance and request a non-smoking room, I am sure you would have no problem having this noted on your reservation and delivered at the time of check-in.

I was just trying to book a reservation at this hotel for next year. It doesn't look like any reservations are possible after Oct 5, 2013. Any thoughts as to why this may be? I hope it isn't leaving SPG.

They probably won't have loaded inventory in to the system beyond that point yet. Drop them an email and ask them when it will be available. They will hopefully be able to assist you with your request, or let you know when it will be opened up.

Does anyone know how many Japanese style room this hotel has? I booked for May 2013.
What's the chance of an upgrade? As we are going on a month self funded trip, I don't really feel like paying $60 more per day if I could get an upgrade...
I tried to apply SNA to it but only gives me the option of junior suite...
