Not I want spread a panic... Not like many people care anyways. For me it's a highly hypothetical trip too but I hate when only one prop in town leaves SPG...

Sure, but is there anything good to eat in Japan anyway, once you get past the sushi, the noodles, the grilled dishes, the Kobe beef, the various exotic items we don't typically see in the West, etc.?

Nov 13-17 2013 stay

Excellent location away from the center but near hills, shrines, Gion. Upgraded to 8th floor "tired" junior suite. Most of hotel appeared in need of updating. Executive lounge is small and offers limited food, but great service and quiet. Nice pool but very. Limited fitness center.

We just got back a few weeks ago and enjoyed our stay there. Apparent upgrade to the Club floor but no access to lounge. Room appeared to have been remodeled but the carpet needed a deep clean. Convenient location since they have a shuttle service to the train station and to Gion strip. Would stay here again ... hope they don't leave the SPG portfolio

I was able to book a rate in April using this SET code (AAA rate)... 33000 Yen, rate is cancellable. It's the only way I can get a cash rate to show up.

FYI, hotel is bookable using points.

I booked Oct. 19-24, 2014 using points (48k total - 12k per night for 4 nights or 9600 per night for 5 with 5th free). We are likely only staying until Oct. 23 but I booked the extra night as it was free anyway and it gives us the flexibility to stay over if we want to. I booked online but had to call in to change something (I input 1 person in room when there will be 2. Probably didn't matter but I wanted it done right) and the agent had no problem making the change and upgrading us. I also saw cash rates online when I booked.

Any advice on specific room or facing direction to request?

i'm a lowly gold so they upgraded me to the club floor but no access to lounge. was supposively a better room but wasn't anything special. i've seen pics of the traditional japanese rooms and those look cool. they even give you these green tea/white chocolate cookies that are hella good. my room had a view of some sort of courtyard which had a rock garden and some sort of fountain.

i still can't see any availability for this property in Apr, May or Oct.
