i still can't see any availability for this property in Apr, May or Oct.
That's where they put us as well, the club floor. Which room number were you in. Was it a decent view or is there better? Maybe I should try for a traditional Japanese room.

i don't remember but it was close to the elevator and very close to the balcony. thinking back now...not sure if it was really their club floor since it wasn't on the same level as their lounge. didn't really explore the hotel so i'm not sure if there's a better view from the hotel. you should spend more time walking around kyoto as it's awesome there. one thing that we liked was that there was a shuttle that took you into town and also to the kyoto JR station which makes it convenient.

Thanks. That's why I took the extra night as it was free anyway. I have a feeling we will end up staying the extra night in Kyoto and losing one in Tokyo. If you have any great tips (must-see things, places to eat, anything) I'd love to hear them. PM if you don't want to go even further OT here. I've checked out all the usual stuff but if there is anything that stood out for you, I'd appreciate the info.

It's very strange that this hotel does not have anything loaded April 2014 and on. I want to book this hotel for May soon!

I booked an award stay here in May but it says the stay is not eligible for Suite Night Awards -- does anyone know why that would be?

They list a dozen possible reasons, but there is no possible way to determine the exact reason. The one reason they don't list is the most probable - the system is simply broken.

We would only be able to find out by reviewing the actual reservation. Our email address as per below so do write to us.

i stayed here in nov/december. Got upgraded to a luxury suite despite them not clearing my SNA. They said they were booked as they had a conference in town (they did have signs for one when I was there). However, when I called to verify with the hotel there were no suites they said they will try. Fast forward 24 hours tothe morning of my arrival, I called asking if an early check-in was available and they said they were trying to get a "suite" ready for me. I was surprised as my call 24 hours early revealed no suite so I thought it was a lost in translation type of deal... lo and behold I get there to checkin at 3PM and I was escorted to my corner suite. It had Bvlgari bathroom amenities and even its own intercom/video camera. It was quite far from the elevator. Not the most spectacular suite I've ever been given but it was definitely a nice surprise. They definitely seemed to go out of their way to give me a 50nt plat a nice time in Kyoto. I give them thumbs up for the superb stay.

just check in today, booked a junior suite but it was so nice for them to upgrade me to Luxury Suite even I'm just a Gold. Low peak season I suppose the hotel is not that busy.

Any reviews from those who are not Plats? Orbitz is quoting $134+tax per night for a superior double (South wing?), which seems like a steal compared with the Hyatt. Would be nice to get a Gold upgrade to a Deluxe or Executive room, though not to a "Japanese style room" - I haven't done futons since I graduated from college decades ago.

Is the location good for tourists?

I think this hotel is quite generous for upgrades. I stayed as a Gold and got upgraded from a Junior Suite to the Luxury Suite (which supposed no upgrade for Gold on suites). Don't think they will upgrade people to Japanese Style rooms. So there are chances you get upgrade to better rooms as a Gold. But I don't think you will be able to enjoy any elite benefits if you book through Orbitz.
The hotel is pretty close to the city centre with shuttle bus running regular frequencies to and from the JR Kyoto Station. As I did self-driving in Kyoto so I wasn't so sure whether it's convenient in terms for public transport, but I think there's a JR station nearby. For self-driving it's within 15 mins driving to almost all major tourist spots in Kyoto.
