Definition of Codes/Eligibility

Please forgive me if this has already been addressed...after 36 pages, I'm sure it has, but it's quite a long thread to try to find.

How would I be able to find a description of the codes (short definition in the first post definitely pointed me in the right direction) and what the eligibility rules are for the codes? I picked out about eight that I think could apply to me, but would like to know for sure.

Excellent thread, by the way! Never knew there were codes out there other than offers presented to me via email or website.

hhoope01 Oct 27, 2010 2:11 pm

The codes listed in the first post on of this thread are pretty much public in nature and most everyone can use them. Some of the exceptions might be ones like the "AAA" rate which would require a AAA membership.

The easiest way to find out if a rate you are looking at requires some special membership or ID is to look at the rate rules for that rate. If the rate rule specifies that a membership ID or card is required, then you have your answer. If it does not, then you should be OK to use it.

Great, thanks for the quick response. I just tried plugging them in for an upcoming stay this weekend...I suspect I didn't get many hits because of the no-notice timeframe. I'll try again for long-range stays. Although, what did come up did not match the military rate that I'm eligible for. For me, the military rate is the way to go and I've been using it for years now, both on my military travels (when I can) and personal travel.

Sometimes the publicly available rates are better; sometimes they're not. Varies by property, time of year, the sun setting, etc. If you get a better rate through the military then that's probably the way to go. Note that rate isn't a publicly available rate ;) :)

Cheers.

Update from FWAA's site regarding Marriott VIP rates:

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE MARRIOTT ATHLETIC VIP DISCOUNT PROGRAM: Effective Sept. 1, 2010, Marriott will no longer offer the Athletic VIP Card benefit to the FWAA membership, as the program was originally designed for travel decision-makers with college and professional teams. Knowing that many of your are loyal Marriott Rewards customers, the FWAA and Marriott are in negotiations to include the membership in another similar discount program with Marriott that more closely fits the profile of the FWAA member. If you currently have a VIP card, it will be honored until its expiration date. If you do not have a card or your card has expired, know that soon we hope to be announcing our inclusion in a different Marriott discount plan. If you have specific questions about Marriott discount programs, please direct them to George Schroeder at [email protected].

LPR - Hope it works!

I just reserved a room At the panama marriott using the LPR code. Rate dropped from 175 to 120 and now includes breakfast for 2. They call it an "event rate". I am supposed to be a participant of any event booked in the property.
Has any one used this code before?
Does this code mean different things at each property?
In my case, I'll check their event board, and if asked, I guess I'll tell them I'm part of the wedding or whatever other party or conference is going on at that time.

It does mean different things at different properties. Sometimes you can get the name of the event from the website; sometimes you can't. It's unlikely anyone will ask if you are part of the event. If you booked the rate, they just assume you're entitled. The only time you might have a problem is if the local event is for Ukrainian speakers or midgets (or giants!) or some other group that you don't seem to belong to, but even then, nobody is likely to challenge you.

I read this (bold my emphasis/reference) to mean that they are going to try to put further restrictions on this (and I'm guessing here) providing media credentials or similar so that every joe can't get a membership. However for those that are members I'll be interested to see how they change this. I wonder what the other organizations who use the VIP card are doing as well. on that note, maybe they will get their own code as well, just not with the same discount as the remaining VIP members will get

What I don't understand is that how are football writers or were they ever considered decision makers for college and pro football teams. sounds like marriott made the bonehead move by allowing FWAA to get these cards in the first place

just call the hotel, ask them if any events are being planned for your time period. If they ask why, just say you are considering an event there but want to know if there are any other events that might be in conflict with yours.. they usually tell you what type of event is being held there. even if you get a vague answer, then you can usually google it to and find out via another website what event is happening at that property... problem solved.. again unless its a midget convention..

You'll get that message if you're trying to book using an award w/o specifying the type of award. Somewhere on the Marriott site it will have the list of award #s/types. Once you find that you can plug it in. Or you can just call the 800# & have them book it.

If you're trying to book a publicly available or corporate code & it's not available or is an incorrect code, you'll get a note saying it's not available for your dates & to try a different date or rate request. Again, you can always call the 800# if you know you've got a valid code.

Good luck.

Cheers.
