The W is right by the county jail. I don't advise it for a family.

Stay Run in San Diego

Hi Folks,
I signed up for the 3 stays 10000 point promotion and I have a 6 night stay in San Diego coming up. I will be at a conference at the Sheraton Marina and so I would like to stay there most of the time. I was thinking I could stay there day 1 and days 2-6. Is there a SPG property nearby where I can hop to for day 2.

Cheers

Yes Downtown San DIego

There is one at 701 A st at Symphony Towers about 4 miles from where
the Harbor Island Hotel is at. It used to be a Marriott and is very nice.

You could stay at the W but it is very pricey and also downtown.

Enjoy your stay and welcome to SAN

10,000 points after 3 stays between 8/15 and 11/30. It's a targeted promotion. See http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=586148 for more info.

Post your stay experiences in San Diego when you're finished. I am heading there next month and would appreciate a fresh review.

Property in San Diego - W or Westin

I Have an upcoming stay in San Diego and am curious which hotel would be a better choice, the W for $289 or the Westin for $189.

What is important to me:

Platinum Suite Upgrades..
Uniqueness & Quality of Room...

Never had an upgrade (or, at least, one I noticed) at the Westin Horton, but it's a nice hotel. Good location.

I stay at both frequently. I prefer the Westin over the W. You stand a much better chance of getting an upgrade. The only problem is that a bunch of rooms in the Westin smell like cat urine. They have a serious problem with dampness caused by airconditioners that leave the carpets wet. You get one free bottle of water.

The problem with the W is that you hardly ever get a suite. The room that my colleagues and I get upgraded to isnt even a full suite. It just has a larger room area and sits in the intersection of the two corridors. Of my ten stays I have only been upgraded once. They also give you a free water, a box of chocolates(sometimes expired) and magazines like wired.

My favourite is the Sheraton. Its in a remote location attached to Symphony Towers. They treat plats the best, two bottles of water, two coupons for drinks per day, breakfast buffet coupon and free internet/local phone calls.
