I think the Westin has some parking all the way in back of the hotel, but my impression is that street, whatever it is called, IS sketchy late at night. I use the Westin garage. Street parking is very difficult at the Sheraton sine they blanketed the street with parking meters a little while back. But street parking is safe and easy near the Four Points LAX. It's even a bit closer if you're at the Renaissance next door. Street cleaning is Thursdays from noon-2:30 IIRC. Either way, it's a 1-2 minute walk along a busy street. I have never paid to park at either of those two hotels in the last 5 years. Here's my favorite trick to finding street parking: Google maps satellite view! Just have a look at any property in the world from the sky and you can quickly figure out where and whether there is street parking. I did that at recent stays in downtown Long Beach (Westin and Hyatt) and figured out pretty fast that looking for street parking was a waste of time.

He has free parking. Not sure if you are aware of this, but, The Park Spot is a parking spot club with a garage on W Century Blvd. LOL ;)
He's trying to figure out how safe it is to walk from The Parking Spot to the Westin (or some other LAX area hotel).

Why is it free?
Is that the garage where the elite spaces have hanging blankets between cars, which is a great idea, or is that Wally Parking or ?? |

Mini Review
Just had a night stay there. First time checking as SPG Gold. Friendly FD agent explained SPG Gold benefits and asked if I needed the 4 pm checkout which I did not need.
Casually asked for a terrace room or one with a patio. After a couple of minutes got upgraded from Exec Floor, which I booked to 1BR terrace corner suite on the 9th. Comfy bed and rainfall shower. The room was older but very well maintained and everything working fine. Good to great service at the bar, grill and even breakfast. ^ Minor nits: Lounge was mobbed at breakfast, so went downstairs and had a full breakfast. The work desk chair was not very comfortable, no arm rests and I mean I've been to Hampton Inns with proper desk chairs. Certainly, a better than average airport hotel and I will be back there again. |

Now I know why the city put meeters! As I am sure your traveling on a businesses expense account, it is not fair to the many low paid airport employees and people that live in the remaining apartments to broadcast this in a public forum. The area by the 4 points and Renaissance Hotel, is not safe. It is dark at night with very few street lights and mostly empty lots. A person could be attacked or worse and no one would hear screems for help. Park at your own risk, and leave nothing in view.
As to the area, I've never been attacked or killed walking along that well-traveled thoroughfare in front of a couple of hotels. For that matter, my car has been broken into exactly once (not L.A.). Do you want to know where it was parked, overnight? In a hotel parking lot. |

Park at your risk is correct and anyone with a car in 2014, should know/be aware that you don't leave items, in your car, in sight, no matter what the location. |
Thank you for the airport parking org website tip! Purchased valet parking for 17$ incl tax, curious how it will work out.
|
So... stayed there for a night on a corporate rate that included club access. Turns out the same rate included a discounted self park rate for 9$/night, so I could have spared myself the prepaid/booked valet stuff.
Anyway, its a decent value for money property near LAX, I liked it better than the LAX Sheraton, but its not a Westin :-:wow:-: place, just a decent place to stay for a decent price. The room on the club floor was good and in good condition, but you could notice the age of everything. Amazing views of LAX approach & runways^ The club had a decent spread for breakfast, but nothing during the rest of the day, and by nothing I mean absolutely nothing but a water dispenser. :p Re valet: so I purchased the overnight parking in advance and the valet only charged me 14$ when I checked out. One of the valets was annoyed I had the deal via LAX parking and pointed out to be that it was not for guests. The others didn't care. I had to show the valet receipt to get the before mentioned 9$ for self park off my hotel invoice. PS: spg golds get 10$ off F&B spend or 250 points. |
strike in progress at Westin LAX
Just a warning to anyone staying here today and maybe tomorrow. There is a "one day housekeeping strike" going on as a protest to disciplinary action taken against a housekeeper.
When I saw that I switched to the Sheraton so not sure how much of an impact there is but I have had issues more than once under normal conditions so I didn't want to take a chance. Plus I'll add that the disciplinary action had something to do with not finding bedbugs in guestrooms *eek*! |

"Safe" is relative to the individual. As a New Yorker and a man. I find it safe, but I have street smarts. I wouldn't walk from the Westin to the Hilton after 9:30 or 10pm. But during the day I would say its safe. It's the city, just have your wits about you.
Also related to the Westin: Does anyone have current experience with the lounge on the weekend, i.e. is it open and would breakfast be served in the lounge? Or if it is closed, will there be any replacement for the "missed" services other than using the Plat arrival gift for breakfast... I have already contacted the hotel through the eMail listed on the website yet have not received any response so far... Thanks for your insight! Greetings - DIrk |
There's sidewalk all the way into LAX from the Westin and crosswalks. As stated, perceptions of safety vary from person to person. I personally would walk at the times you mention. But don't do anything that feels uncomfortable to you. After all, there are free shuttles to/from the airport from both hotels.

The last time I was there (which was over a year ago), the lounge was not open on weekends, but you are given a coupon to pick up a few things at the Starbucks counter.
