Can I make a points reservation for someone else under their name? It would be a child with the same last name.

Official process would be to call MR and have them issue the certificate for the stay in your child's name. With that disclaimer, if this is for a domestic stay in the US you can edit the name on the reservation to be your child and it should be fine. General FT wisdom is Europe, Asia, etc. are more particular about the names on reservations, so I would definitely call MR if booking a stay there for your child. YMMV....

I normally just book the room via points with my information. I follow the booking with a call to the hotel letting them know it is for a family member/or friend and they notate the reservation accordingly with their information so it is seen at check in. I do this regularly and have never had a problem

A Member may request an Award Redemption Stay to be issued to another person and where the Member will not be present for the stay, only when booking the Award Redemption Stay reservation through Member Support. You may call Member Support listed here (https://www.marriott.com/help/loyalt...mer-support.mi) to complete the points redemption booking for your daughter.

me too. Never had a problem and when I book a room for my parents at a property where I use to stay often they extend my titanium benefits to my parents (breakfast as welcome gift and upgrade)

I want to book hotel for my spouse (different last name) but I am not traveling. I have some Marriott points but 300 points short. I can buy 1000 points and use it to book the hotel. Is it okay that I am not there during check-in? I want to make sure before I spend $$ to buy points. Thank you for your time.

The official answer involves calling it in to add the other guest name, but practically speaking - folks here have been able to add their spouse's name to the points reservation and that should be fine at check-in. Probably less of an issue in the US than abroad.

Yes, it is ok. Buy the points, make the reservation and add your spouse's name to reservation by calling the hotel directly.

Just remember that your spouse will not be eligible for any elite benefits that you may be entitled to as the Bonvoy member. It's possible that the hotel will extend any benefits you would be due out of goodwill because you're the main name on the reservation and you used your points but equally possible your spouse will just get the room because you're not there.

For example, my sister (same surname as me so they'd have thought she was my spouse) checked in to a pre-paid reservation I had at the Sheraton Heathrow in February after I'd told them on the chat that she would be arriving three hours before my flight landed. She got the room but they steadfastly refused to issue the breakfast vouchers until I physically turned up. This surprised me but they were well within their rights.

One of the Boston Marriotts upstatused my wife to (my) Titanium status because she booked and paid for her stay using our Marriott Visa card a few years back. It not only thrilled her because then she had access to the Concierge Lounge but the staff remembered her throughout the hotel.
