Lightbulb Take careful notes!

I will be paying a $30 destination fee one night this week at the Renaissance Las Vegas Hotel. When my wife and I check in, I will be sure to ask what it covers, and write it down.

From the website, I am given to understand that it includes free play at local casino, whiskey/wine tasting and more. (!)

There are no conventions in town, and the rates were quite low. So in my last weeks as a Titanium Elite, I am hoping for a western view across the golf course toward The Strip, which is actually located in the unincorporated area of Paradise, and not within the City of Las Vegas.

Is this actually in the current T&C’s? Does someone have a reference?

Yes. Dayone provided a link in the appropriate thread (post # 8). Seems you liked his post.

If I skim that thread, someone claimed later that the provision was included only in the draft version of the Bonvoy T&Cs and was later "edited out" for the final version. Does anyone know the current status for sure.

Also, is there a requirement that the alternative amenity must be of comparable value (old SPG rule) or could the hotel give one point and claim compliance? And does it apply just to wifi (or maybe enhanced wifi too?) included in the resort fee, or are there some other amenities for which there should be an alternative provision?

It's still in the rules.

A single Bonvoy point is in compliance with the policy.

Only applies to internet access when internet access is included in the resort fee. There are no other amenities that the policy applies to.

That would be fine if they were disclosed on the search results page (not just on the chain's web site but on OTAs also). Hotel A is $200/night but hotel B is $220. Is A really cheaper than B? Won't know until you click through on each one.

That's pretty much what has happened in Vegas! Often the resort fee can be more than the room cost in lower end hotels.

I spit out my drink. That's exactly what would happen, only after getting through the prompts. You can't even press 0 or say agent anymore. They also lie about having a platinum number.

What I got for my destination fee

This is what we got for our $30 destination fee at the Renaissance Las Vagas Hotel:

Whiskey or wine tasting for two at Sammy’s Bar, 16:00 - 18:00. Choice of:
La Terre (house red)
Evan Williams Bourbon Whiskey

One Hawaii Kona Beer at Sammy’s Bar or at Grill 55 -- Lager, The Blonde or Golden Wave

One dessert at Grill 55 (pre-packaged cheesecake & chocolate cake, 1½" x 1½") -- the same cheesecake was available in unlimited quantity at the Club Lounge from 20:00 to 22:00.

$20 slot play at Westgate Resort, about a 10 minute walk north, past the Convention Center. The card issued there is not directly refundable, but after spending it on 50-cent bets, and cashing out winnings of 25 cents or more, I ended up with $19.23 -- essentially a rebate that took 45 minutes (including figuring out how the card worked in the slot machine, and two-way walk).

Not part of the destination fee, the Club Lounge (15th floor) looks east. The evening offering was delicious, 2" hamburgers, salad, and cheese plate.

Overall, I considered the fee as part of the room cost, including the only lounge in a Las Vegas Marriott property, and thus worth it overall.

As for my view, I didn't ask so I didn't receive.

This is the St. Regis NYC "destination fee" info, $50 nightly (also $50 nightly for points stay):

I'm curious about the laundry price list. If that $50 credit was sufficient to cover a suit, 3 dress shirts, 3 tee shirts, 3 underpants, and 3 pairs of socks, I'd say it's a decent value.

I think it’s good for probably a shirt or two lol, I’ll update this reply with the price list if I can find it later in the room.

Edit: here’s the price list. moondog

Try a suit and one pair of socks. Significantly cheaper to write off the $50 credit as a sacrifice to the Arne Utah gods and to use an outside provider, if you were so inclined.

Wow! I'm used to seeing numbers like that, but in HKD.
