Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.

Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

Without going into the long story I'm wondering if someone can confirm something for me... Is there a way to tell if you have a "standard" award applied to a 7 night res or a TP? Marriott cleaned up a mistake on my account last week and I think that instead of converting my TP to the correct category they just cancelled it and deposited the difference in points and applied a standard award (6 + 1 free) instead... in the activity section of my account it states "Standard Redemption Rate 02/01/2019, Ordered -360,000 Rewards". For obvious reasons just trying to confirm. thx
All you should care is, does your balance change to less or more than before? Or it stays the same?
Also what is the reservation saying? As in This Reservation has the e-Cert or it tells you you still need to order a cert? This tells you whether the reservation is already "paid for" or not paid yet.
What you want to see / make sure, is that your reservation is "paid for" and your pt balance does not come short from previous.
However Marriott handles the mistake correction, that would become irrelevant and you do not want to mess with it.

For a TP cert attached, when looking at the reservation, the sum of the individual night points will *not* add up to the total. For example, for a NC5 7-day cert:
Obviously 35K x 6 does not add up to 105K.
105K is actually the refund value of the NC5 7-day cert.

The line item display in the Activity section is a complete mess - it does not give a good accounting trail that the customers can easily follow.
All you should care is, does your balance change to less or more than before? Or it stays the same?
Also what is the reservation saying? As in This Reservation has the e-Cert or it tells you you still need to order a cert? This tells you whether the reservation is already "paid for" or not paid yet.

wow this really sucks. I have 2x certs expiring in October and I'm fully booked for the year... I'm assuming its still possible to get 45k points back for each at least?

Read back, someone posted the CS suggested him to hold on his certs and only convert it before expiration date so he would get almost a full year, versus convert it long before the original expiration date.
pretty sure many people on this thread are in similar positions, i.e. holding on OCs.
But if your certs are already in the NC form, then it probably is a tough uphill battle to get an extension.

Read back, someone posted the CS suggested him to hold on his certs and only convert it before expiration date so he would get almost a full year, versus convert it long before the original expiration date.
pretty sure many people on this thread are in similar positions, i.e. holding on OCs.
But if your certs are already in the NC form, then it probably is a tough uphill battle to get an extension.

I have a cert OC9 attached to hotel, but want to change dates. This will change my OC9 to NC6 when I do this right?

When the OC is detached, it would still be an OC.
When the reservation is cancelled with the OC still attached, many things can happen. The most frequent happening is, the OC immediately is cashed out and the partial value of pts deposited to your account. At that point, you can still get your cert back although sometimes need to get supervisor involved, but the unfortunate thing is, it would become an NC once it is restored.
So it depends on what you want it to be on how to approach the date change.

I have been following this thread closely since I converted my certificate from OC5 830T/P830 to NC4 QP83. I was then hoping to see if I could convert from category 1-4 to category 5, to no avail. The chances were slim from what I read on this thread. Now, I had a different thought and question for you all. Could I use the travel package to make a reservation for someone else? Or could I make it under my name, and add others to the reservation, but not personally be there or check-in?

In theory the certificate should still cover the 150k points but I have a feeling they'll spin it the other way.

A little late to the game. Sorry if I missed something. Just confirming what I am able to glean: my OC 1-5 reservations need to have certs detached if I want to change reservation or property, is that right? The OC is good until its original expiration date. I can book elsewhere, but wise to do so before March 5, or experience a double devaluation if I hold and convert my OC 1-5 to a NC 1-4, before the original expiration (and in exchange for the double hit, I get a year extension, with the caveat that my MMV), is that about right? Any strategies for better CSR outcomes? Are there better times in the day to call? Just the number on the dashboard we all use? (I'm no ambassador.) My experiences with calling are mixed. Very. Others here similarly?
