I just spoke to an agent who insisted my Tier 4-5 certificate converts to a Category 1-4. I asked her to speak with someone else and double check since it doesn't make sense... She insisted and I said go ahead and do it (I wanted to cash out for 315k as another agent offered last week) And she did. I got a Cat 1-4 for a Ritz 4-5 cert, the worst conversion in history. I'm too busy to HUCA right now but I've sent Bonvoy a message on Messenger, let's see how many weeks a reply takes. |

People have confirmed extending some NC certs so it has been confirmed. If you want to deny the evidence I guess you are free to do so. If you do not want to take a risk, fine, but attempting to scare everyone else from extending is fear mongering and not helpful. There are data points both ways. You taking no risk is fine but you jump on anyone who has a different viewpoint from you. Taking a risk is fine, especially when, as here, people have had success taking a risk. So long as people understand there is a downside and they know about it and are willing to accept that outcome if things do not go their way it is fine. Relax. Use one of your certs and take a vacation before you have to risk extending it.
You seem very certain about "extending" it without any confirmation from anyone. And you keep advising other to do the same, without any cautions.... Add: read post #2138 about the DP just 4 days ago. There were more DPs. Pls do not just say those people were unlucky and you have been lucky. There are a lot of pitfalls taking advice over the internet (mine included). Always exercise cautions.... |

The above #2198 is not true. Marriott has never given any "extension" to award night or TP. The only thing they do is to cancel the original one and re-issue a new one with 12-month expiration. Also, Marriott has never stated that they can cancel and re-issue for the 2nd 12-month expiration.
I would not take the risk and pray for another 12-month.... It's true Marriott never extends for those CC FN certs, but legacy TPs always have had dp showing agents giving extensions. It's a freaking 7 NIGHT cert! Whenever I explain how the hell do you expect your customer to plan a 7 night stay so easily? You have to find all the nights available consecutively in 1 property, and that if the stay fits into your travel itinerary etc. usually leaves the agent baffled and empathize that it is not easy redeeming such certs, and it is a very valid reason to request for an extension. I reported back in March that my converted NC TP expires Sep 19. I called in to redeem for Jan 2020. The agent also confirmed that my 2 remaining NC TPs have the eligibility to extend another year, so the redemption are all good to go until at least Aug 2020 for me if I call to redeem them. I tend to call the Titanium/Plat line via the phone and during business hours. The agents tend to be more competent and usually gets things done fairly efficiently. |

When was your DP? So you just ignored the most recent DPs?

To me extending is the same as having them cancel it and repurchasing it at the same value which is net net zero. Some agents are easier to convince using that logic ;) |
Called twice, asking for upgrading NC6 to NC8 (will pay the point difference), both agents say cant do upgrade. Will try again, hopefully 3rd time is a charm. |

I have several counter data points from my friends that it is possible to attach TP certs to pre-devaluation reservations.
I didn’t say it was not possible, I said there was no data points reported that I’ve seen so far that that’s the case. Bravo for your friends being able to do it. Do share how it was done. |
I expected that this thread would tip at some point into discussing the new peak / off-peak pricing and its implication (if any) on travel certificates.
But alas it's still just people banging on about upgrading award category without bothering to read the wiki or the thread... |
