Thank you!

I had a 7 night travel cert for Marriott Cat 1 to 5 and it was expiring. I spoke to Marriott after the merger and they gave me a new certificate - It says 7 Night Partial package category 5 with Reward code QP91 and total points redeemed 105K.
How do I use this certificate? Whenever I have tried calling Marriott to book any of the hotels in Cancun or anything , they say either it is not available or they are unable to book it . I am trying to use only 4 or 5 nights of the package and let the other nights go for a waste. How is anyone successful in booking and which resorts or hotels are they booking . What do I need to call up Marriott and tell them ? Do I need to tell them my reward code etc? I also need this certificate extended. Will they do it now?

Should I just take the 105K points ? Does QP91 still mean I can book cat 5 Marriott hotels?

Please help me . Your help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I just used my certificate successfully in a 2-minute phone call to1-800-321-7396.

A couple weeks ago I booked a 7-night points reservation at a Category 4 property (although I don't have the points in my account). Tonight I called and said I'd like to redeem my travel certificate. Was asked if I'd already made the reservation, and I responded "yes" and had the confirmation number handy. She said, "I love it when our members are prepared?" About a minute later the certificate was applied, and I can verify it was applied in my account.

Based on my experience, I would think that if you'er able to book 7 nights at a Cat 1-5 property in Cancun with points, you should be able to call in and have your certificate applied.

I am sure this has been asked before but someone please save me going through 154 pages for the answer.

I have a 7 night reservation on hold for a cat 5 from my account. Can a friend apply his TC to this reservation? We can't make a new booking as I used points advance and now there are no award rooms available.

Just extended my six remaining certificates into September 2020.

No idea what I'm going to do with these though.

Were these all NCs receiving an extension? Presumably they were. Which line did you call? US? UK? Other?

Peak and offpeak rates will be in effective September 14. Will the travel package be affected? In other words, can the travel package redeem for the same category at peak time?

Yes. Called the Australia number. No issues doing it, just took the agent a good 30 minutes or so to complete.

Here's a new data point for everyone.
I called up to change an existing booking to a different hotel. Nothing complicated with categories or anything. I had a certificate already attached to the old booking so needed it to be applied for the new booking.
Initially I was told that travel package hotel bookings cannot be changed. I pushed back against it and was transferred to a more senior person. He agreed to make the change for me but only because I had made the booking back in February and as a once off only.
He quoted this in the terms and conditions:

ii. the hotel award portion of the Travel Package is non-refundable to the Member if cancelled or not used.

Apparently he reads that as changes cannot be made. I tried to argue that it doesn't, just that the certificate can't be refunded or cancelled but it was pointless.

I've loved all the value I've gotten from these packages but boy will I be relieved once I've used them all up and don't have to deal with Marriott agents any more.

Hi there,

Firstly, if a reservation is booked under your account, you could not use your friend's certificate for this reservation. Secondly, members cannot book a Points Advance Reservation for the use of a Travel package Award. They must be ordered and/or attached to the reservation at the time of booking.

If you need any further assistance, please let us know.

TPs are good for the category whether peak or off-peak. See this post:

Hello rny321,

The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

Is the certificate that is attached an OC or a NC? Based on some DPs reported in this thread, if it is an NC all you need to do is to cancel it online yourself, and the NC returns to your account automatically, with the same expiration date.

Seems only the OC bookings required human handling in order to properly return the cert to your account. It would be a HUCA - best to just call a second time when the initial rep is not familiar with the OC - given the talk about many old reps have left during and after the merger, it is not surprising the new reps came onboard would have no clue on how OC works because Marriott probably would not train them due to OC bookings will soon to be the dodo bird.

All the OC TPs have expired and they are irrelevant now.

RedSun Sep 3, 2019 11:00 am

Since all the OC TPs have expired, I created a new thread to discuss the legacy OC/NC TP and the brand new NC TP. Feel free to add anything.

Yes, pretty simple logic! ;)
