I have another question, perhaps this has been discussed somewhere, but if so I haven't found it: Has anyone tried to convert an old travel package to a new one that was issued 3 years ago as opposed to one that was just issued last year for the first time? I have a package from 3 years ago that currently expires in July and was hoping to delay its use until this autumn. I haven't found any policy language specifically addressing this, and suspect it is not written down. I'll have to scramble really hard to find a use for it if they don't allow me to convert it.

Are you asking for an upgrade or to convert? Did you try calling the UK number with the script in the wiki?

Converting it should extend the old package to one year from the date of conversion which is what happened when I converted two older ones of mine.

Convert, with a reservation ready for it to be attached to. Yes, UK number, 3 times - twice they said that they have new directions that QP91 is not allowed only QP83 (with 30k refund)

Has anyone done this lately?

I would try UK again claiming that you had a property in mind when you purchased the package but Marriott changed the category of the property and now, because of their actions (raising the property category without sufficient notice to you), you are unable to use your certificate so they need to make you whole. Make sure you have a fake property in mind that recently went up in category from 4 to 5 and be prepared to create a reservation there and attach if necessary to get a conversion. You may need to get a supervisor involved. In my past dealings with them many times the agent took the hard line and was at first unwilling to help but framing the problem in a way that makes it their fault and escalating to a supervisor has improved my results in those situations.

Which elite status are 7 night travel packages based off?

Hi guys,

My brother is booking a travel package 7 night certificate for me. He does not have any status, and I am Titanium. If he books for us will we receive the Titanium benefits? What status will be attached to the 7 night certificate?

Cheers.

the redeeming account which in this case is your brother. Reach out to the hotel saying that you are a Titanium and some properties will honor benefits if you actually stay with him.

The reason is because the certificate is now only good for category 1-4 but the hotel I booked is now a category 5. I think by reading through the thread, it seems like it's not do-able due to the new category. I just want to see if I read it right.

Also, If I cancel my Travel Package altogether, (I did already get 100,000 point for SWA), How many Marriott Points would I get back? 75,000?

In similar situation, have a 7 night Travel Package Cat 9. Want to change dates if possible (hotel has gone up to Cat 8). Want to prepare myself what to expect before I call customer service.
Thanks cocodidi and the community's inside if move the dates is allowed. Understand it may require to convert from old cert to new cert, how about if need additional points due to category increase?

If need additional points, I will likely keep the cert (no upgrade) and book other Cat 6 hotels. From reading here, my understanding the advise is to do a detach and the new cert will have a new expiration date one year from the issuing date. Hope that's the correct understanding.

I have a 7 night travel package for a cat 6 that expires in August. Is there any way to extend this? I have no plans to travel in the near future with a baby on its way. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

OMG - are you all aware that there is a wiki that answers the last few questions (which were asked multiple times before) so u don't have to read all 1600 cmments in this thread?

Did read 1600, but it is about point advance reservation, which is not my case. Understand the point of grandfather in but wish to have more clarification.

Also not sure what's the results from those who tried so thought to check for DP.

Seems your expression is over dramatic.

A date change will reprice an award reservation, so you will need a Cat 8 if you modify your reservation. I don't remember anyone reporting that they had converted a Cat 6 to a Cat 7, so the chances of converting to a Cat 8 are probably zero.

It only took 5 calls, but finally managed to get OC6 converted into NC5. Last week, called it to convert and attach to an existing 7 night reservation.
The guy said, yeah yeah its attached already. Of course it wasnt, he just refunded 30k points instead of charging 30k extra, and I was a proud owner of a useless to me NC4 package.
Finally today, a supervisor who knew what they were doing made it an NC5 by charging 60k (incl.30 already refunded) and attached it to a cat 5.

Very happy with the outcome as retail at this hotel is over $5k for 7 nights during the holidays.

This is NOT Point Advance thread, but Travel Package thread that dedicates to how to use the cert which can be attached already or not yet attached. People booked before the points going up but intended to use their certs later - is just ONE scenarios of the MANY scenarios discussed in this thread.

There are plenty of DPs related to your situation in the past couple months.

In any case regardless whatever scenario, any change on a reservation that the hotel has moved up will automatically void the old reservation under the old level. This really is NO DIFFERENT than a revenue reservation - when you change the date it is ALWAYS being Repriced on the new date. I dont see why people continue to have questions on such "just to change the date" thing.

On top of that, upgrade a single level is already getting Very Difficult and being reported such since Feb. You would havre read about it if indeed you have gone thru the whole thread...
I dont recall anyone has succeeded to upgrade 2 levels this year.

If the cert is still an old cert, by convert it to new cert would automatically extend it for a year. If it is new cert, some agents are still willing to extend it for another year. A friend has done this in late Feb by extending her Sept expiry cert (which as everyone can guess, has been extended it once already because nobody would order a TP after Aug merger), to Feb 2020 expiration.

I myself have one expiring Mid July and I only plan on to convert it in first week of July. Pretty sure there are others in the same situation.
