This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

Can someone who knows list the names of the hotels here in this long thread? Here are the names, addresses, email contact, commonly used abbreviations and some basic info about each hotel. (Location information, CL and breakfast information, UG experiences reported within the thread, typical room layout and frequently mentioned basic advice for different properties.) Keep in mind most posts indicate these are all great hotels. Hope this helps. CJK
  • JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok (JW) 4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2, Bangkok 10110, Thailand between the Phloen Chit and Nana BTS Stations. There is a pretty large CL. Elites mostly report having complimentary breakfast offered only at the CL and not in a restaurant. Some are bothered by the hotel's proximity to the Nana district and think the hotel may get some associated business while others (myself) have not really noticed this unless looking hard to see it. The hotel was recently renovated and there are a few posts showing pictures. UGs are usually to the club level regular room where the bathrooms are interior (no outside glass wall) and feature rather small showers but great soaking tubs. Unlike the other hotels listed here, the toilets are not in enclosures.
  • Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel (Ren) 518/8 Ploenchit Road Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Bangkok almost attached to the Chit Lom BTS Station and the SkyWalk. One can reach the platform without having to walk on public sidewalks and by using escalators/elevators in the building next door, so most feel this is the property with the fastest and easiest access to BTS. The CL is smaller than the JW's and sometimes gets full. Some elites report having a choice of the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant (which is quite good and huge) while others report having that request denied. Latest reports indicate the restaurant breakfast is offered as of April 2018. The hotel does not have many suites so UGs are usually to corner rooms which often have seating and/or dressing areas as well as larger bathrooms with full glass walls. IMO this is the best/most convenient hotel for a first timer looking to do typical touristy things in Bangkok.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok (CY) 155/1 Soi Mahadlekluang 1 Ratchadamri Road Bangkok is about a five minute walk to either the Ratchadamri or Chit Lom BTS Stations. The hotel operates tuk-tuks to/from the BTS Station. The hotel has a CL and consistently offers elites a choice of breakfast there or in the restaurant. The CL is on the top floor of the hotel and has outdoor seating. Having stayed at the hotel several times as a P, PP and LTP I have never been given an UG, so if there are others who can chime in on that please do. The regular room has a small interior only bathroom with a window overlooking the room and no tub, only a walk-in shower. IMO the price can makes this a great choice, as it is convenient to many places a visitor will go. Sometimes it can be half the price of other Marriott options and they often run double points promotions. (Call the hotel to ask, it cannot hurt.)
  • Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park (Sukhumvit Soi 22) 199 ถนน สุขุมวิท ซอย 22 Khwaeng Khlong Tan, Khet Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand is about an eight minute walk to the Emporium Mall and Phrom Phong BTS Station either down the Soi sidewalk or through Queen's Park. The hotel operates a regular shuttle to the BTS Station although some have reported trouble catching it back to the hotel. The CL is large, with an outdoor deck, and most people report not being given a choice for the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. Most Plats report getting UG to a suite, with the M Suite seeming to be most common. It has a living room, bedroom and single large interior bathroom with separate walk-in showers and tubs. This is the largest hotel in Bangkok.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit Soi 57) 2 ถนน สุขุมวิท 57 Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand ([email protected]) is a two minute walk to the Thong Lo BTS Station. Getting to the station involves crossing Thong Lo intersection which can be daunting. The hotel is about a ten minute BTS ride to the central malls, the Ren, etc. The area is a little quieter and more "Thai" than the more touristy/business area where the JW, Ren and CY are located. Some people report being able to have complimentary breakfast in the restaurant while others report lounge only. The CL is about the same size as the Ren's and can get crowded in the early evening. The hotel is on the higher floors of a 40+ story building and the CL is located on one of the top floors, offering stunning views of Bangkok. There is a rooftop bar on the top of the building with great views, too. Elites are often given a coupon for a free drink on the roof. Plats report mostly getting UGs to a two room suite with an extra half bath. The main bath includes an enclosed toilet, a single large walk-in shower and a large soaking tub that can easily seat two. (While the tub is large, the JW, Marquis and Ren tubs are more comfortable for a single person looking to lean back and relax.) IMO this is the quietest of the hotels listed here.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse 262 Thanon Surawong, Khwaeng Si Phraya, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Thailand is the newest hotel. As of April 2018 there are not many posts from users who have stayed, nor is there an abbreviation being commonly used on this forum. The hotel is not attached/close to a BTS or MRT station but is near the Silom business area and some more popular adult entertainment establishments.

Okay - cool seems worth it for $30 over 4 days. Should I be worried however that the Marriott website displays the following?

"A Sweet Deal Discovery! - Stay 3 Nights, Free Upgrade to Studio Suite" and within the rate rules it says:

***** Special Benefit *****
- Stay 3 nights entitle complimentary upgrade to Studio Suite.

Yet under room details it lists "Deluxe, Guest room, 1 King or 2 Double"

I presume we'll be upgraded on arrival but it seems odd to me that it would say complimentary upgrade but they show a Deluxe room as the selection

Thanks for the info Kalboz, very much appreciated.

So it looks like in my case the investment in an exec room with the Marriott chain is not worth it...better to just book a room with breakfast.

What about other hotels with club lounges? I have stayed at the Conrad, Aetas and Pullman King Power with no restrictions on children....and they were all on mistake rates!

However I would like to try some where different. Does anyone have any other recommendations for child friendly executive lounges?

Many thanks.

I have definitely seen kids in the JW Lounge during Happy Hour. Can't say I like it but they do let them in.

Thank you...maybe it is better that I contact Marriott direct over this.

I concur in general I'm not very keen on children( the bad behaved ones) in the lounge especially on the odd occasion that my G&T takes a tumble. Having said that I've seen some pretty bad grown ups from time to time.

The good news is that nine times out of ten my daughter generally ends up getting free child care at the lounge reception desk with one of the girls taking care of her. She then catches up on their computer watching all the latest Frozen movies etc leaving her poor dad at his peril as to the behavioural aspects of the other children in the lounge!

Believe me there are hidden values in the executive room rate other than the happy hour ^

Let us also not forget that the kids of today are the executive lounge business patrons of the future, they need to learn their trade somewhere and what better place!

Back in 2012, the JW Marriott Bangkok totally barred children from the 16th executive lounge. As a result, I wrote the GM protesting and this is his response:

Dear Mr. Kalboz

I like to acknowledge receipt of your email below. Please accept my apologies for the delayed reply as I have been out of the office. Meanwhile I have read your comments and I hasten to apologize for the inconvenience we have caused to your family and you with our “no children” policy at the Executive Lounge.

First I like to thank you for returning to the JW Marriott Bangkok after over a year. It would have been nice to have you back if it isn’t for the children’s policy.

We introduced these rules at the beginning of the year after having received constant complaints from corporate companies and corporate travelers about disturbances created by children in the Lounge. Given that the JW Marriott Bangkok is predominantly a business hotel we have judged for this to be the right step in order to protect privacy, atmosphere and expectations of our corporate clientele.

We are now reviewing this policy in light of your comments as we understand the implications this rule has for families and leisure travelers. The outcome will likely be that we allow children again, however reserving the right to engage parents if children misbehave or are loud (crying etc). We are in process of formulating these changes and hope to change the policy to a less stringent rule.

Needless to add that I would be delighted to have your family and you back in the near future again as you have indeed been one of our loyal guests over the years.

Thank you for taking time and trouble to write to me and sending you best regards

Peter Caprez
Subsequently, and as the above letter indicates, the JWM reconsidered its policy of totally barring little children from enjoying the executive lounge and changed it to allow children between 9 AM to 5 PM. Do we seldom see children at the lounge during happy hour? Sure, sometimes - but it is against hotel policy. Maybe they have changed it since!

I've booked up the Executive room at the Sofitel Sukhumvit now. Looks quite nice and they accept children as long as you keep them under lock and key

Thank you for everybody's input ^

Checked in late last night / early this morning at the Sukhumvit 57 property - as usual was upgraded to a one bedroom suite on the 37th floor with benefits. Lounge breakfast this morning was amazing. See photos:

I stayed at the Ren a couple week back after having stayed at the JW back in October. I have to say I greatly preferred the Ren's lounge to the JW. Food had more variety and the lounge just felt a bit nicer. The JW lounge was very dark to me, but the Ren was open and light. I didn't get any upgrade at either other than to Exec Lounge room, but did prefer the Ren room to the JW room.

Our initial reservation was for two nights (April 4th & 5th) at the Marriott Sukhumvit 57, the treatment and recognition was so good we extended until April 12th. Further upgraded to a 2-bedroom suite on the 41st floor (one above lounge) with full lounge benefits and choice of having breakfast at either the lounge or the lobby restaurants. Today, the lobby was packed with revellers celebrating the Thai New Year (Songkran) and then they moved on to the 7th floor, the pool floor.

Different theme happy hour food during the cocktail hours at the lounge (Thai, Japanese, Pasta, etc.).

The REN is miles ahead of the JW BKK - they have really let that hotel get seedy.

The JWM has been seedy for years now ... so long as your corporate account pay the exuberant rates, staff and management look the other way when walking with your girlfriend du jour into the lounge. As for the rest of us commoners (especially families), we can go eat cake!!!

Just returned from HKT late this afternoon after celebrating Songkran and checked back into the Marriott Sukhumvit 57 ... was blown away by this awesome upgrade to an amazing corner suite on the lounge floor:

BTW, canceled the Grand Hyatt Erawan (corporate rate of THB 3800 & using DSU) in anticipation of this upgrade, which, lo & behold, it came through! Happy hour goodies, as usual, were plenty and good enough to make a nice dinner, stay tuned!

I have to disagree with this - I spend quite a few nights/year at Marriott hotels in BKK (75+), with the majority being at the JW. While I do agree that there are some areas that could use improvement, overall I think it is a nice hotel and they treat me very nice. Is it because I am there so much? Maybe.

However, the same could be said of any hotel. There is always room for improvement and markets such as BKK where the competition is pretty fierce, poor hotels will see a drop in guests. People will vote with their feet, so to speak.

Each Marriott hotel in BKK has their pros and cons. My guess is that if you took a poll of regular Marriott visitors to BKK, the favorite hotel would be pretty equally split among the JW Marriott and the Ren. Marriott Suk 57 would be slightly below, next would be the Courtyard, and the Exec apartments would not have enough votes to get accurate feedback.

As to guests in lounges - I really dont think that it is mgmt responsibility to monitor who is a serious girlfriend, who is a wife, who is a casual friend, who is a business acquaintance, etc. As long as the guests are acting appropriately (behavior, dress, manners, etc.), then I dont have a problem with it. Yes, I have seen girls in there who are obviously a "girlfriend du jour", but I have also been embarrassed by the actions of "mainstream" guests in the lounge.

In any case, it all comes down to comfort level and that is why we are fortunate to have multiple choices of Marriott Hotels in BKK.

Thank you for your input and I do agree 99% of what you have said above ... this is not the 1950s and management, be it at any property, should not be policing in-room behaviour visa-vis girlfriend du jour, but they also shouldn't be "encouraging" it in the public lounge either ... maybe I am using too harsh of words here. I guess due to the warm weather here, the dress code is liberal when it comes to the ladies of the night, or anyone else for that matter. I am saying that due to such acquiesce, kids (who happen to be paying guests also) are being unfairly treated.

As for my own perspective on the Platinum treatment as an out-of-pocket paying family traveling guests, our needs are for a larger living space and lounge access for breakfast mainly. Here is my breakdown:

- 150+ nights at the JWM and maybe upgraded 10 nights altogether. Breakfast can be taken at the Marriott Cafe in the hotel lobby for Platinums with kids. Great lounge but inconsistent service by staff which seemed cliquish - but it is fair to mention that our last stay was in October 2012. Hopefully the staff have changed since ... staff in past years was hospitable and professional.
- 30+ nights at the REN with 100% upgrade rate - never stayed at a standard or deluxe room. But as we all know, their executive and renaissance suites are not real suites but larger rooms providing no real privacy for parents staying with kids. Great lounge, staff, and benefits.
- 40+ nights at Marriott Suk 57 all but one night was not upgraded to a real suite. Real suites here - sparkling new, nice, stylish suites with separate rooms. Breakfast can be taken at Cafe 57 in the lobby or at the lounge. Great friendly staff and same benefits as other Marriott properties.

The good news is that this is Bangkok and we have many Marriott choices for every one's needs!

Quick question, I've tried to skim the last 10-20 pages of the thread to look for relevant answers, so apologies if I missed anything.

I have been a regular user of the Marriott Executive Apartments in Soi 24 for a few years and I'm really happy with the property in general.

Now I just read that there is no longer the "stay and connect" package that I've used that provided for excellent cabled network in the room, but they advertise "free wifi" for any bookings through official channels (such as http://marriott.com) and "enchanced wifi" for gold/platnum members.

I've tried to see if there is any real differences for this property, but can't really find any, and since I only use this Marriott property, even a whole lot of nights throughout a year doesn't amount to more than silver status, I don't want to go back if it means I'm stuck with paying through my nose for a mediocre connection.

Anyone know what the state of network connectivity is at this property?
