This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

Can someone who knows list the names of the hotels here in this long thread? Here are the names, addresses, email contact, commonly used abbreviations and some basic info about each hotel. (Location information, CL and breakfast information, UG experiences reported within the thread, typical room layout and frequently mentioned basic advice for different properties.) Keep in mind most posts indicate these are all great hotels. Hope this helps. CJK
  • JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok (JW) 4 Sukhumvit Road, Soi 2, Bangkok 10110, Thailand between the Phloen Chit and Nana BTS Stations. There is a pretty large CL. Elites mostly report having complimentary breakfast offered only at the CL and not in a restaurant. Some are bothered by the hotel's proximity to the Nana district and think the hotel may get some associated business while others (myself) have not really noticed this unless looking hard to see it. The hotel was recently renovated and there are a few posts showing pictures. UGs are usually to the club level regular room where the bathrooms are interior (no outside glass wall) and feature rather small showers but great soaking tubs. Unlike the other hotels listed here, the toilets are not in enclosures.
  • Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel (Ren) 518/8 Ploenchit Road Khwaeng Lumphini, Khet Pathum Wan, Bangkok almost attached to the Chit Lom BTS Station and the SkyWalk. One can reach the platform without having to walk on public sidewalks and by using escalators/elevators in the building next door, so most feel this is the property with the fastest and easiest access to BTS. The CL is smaller than the JW's and sometimes gets full. Some elites report having a choice of the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant (which is quite good and huge) while others report having that request denied. Latest reports indicate the restaurant breakfast is offered as of April 2018. The hotel does not have many suites so UGs are usually to corner rooms which often have seating and/or dressing areas as well as larger bathrooms with full glass walls. IMO this is the best/most convenient hotel for a first timer looking to do typical touristy things in Bangkok.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Bangkok (CY) 155/1 Soi Mahadlekluang 1 Ratchadamri Road Bangkok is about a five minute walk to either the Ratchadamri or Chit Lom BTS Stations. The hotel operates tuk-tuks to/from the BTS Station. The hotel has a CL and consistently offers elites a choice of breakfast there or in the restaurant. The CL is on the top floor of the hotel and has outdoor seating. Having stayed at the hotel several times as a P, PP and LTP I have never been given an UG, so if there are others who can chime in on that please do. The regular room has a small interior only bathroom with a window overlooking the room and no tub, only a walk-in shower. IMO the price can makes this a great choice, as it is convenient to many places a visitor will go. Sometimes it can be half the price of other Marriott options and they often run double points promotions. (Call the hotel to ask, it cannot hurt.)
  • Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park (Sukhumvit Soi 22) 199 ถนน สุขุมวิท ซอย 22 Khwaeng Khlong Tan, Khet Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand is about an eight minute walk to the Emporium Mall and Phrom Phong BTS Station either down the Soi sidewalk or through Queen's Park. The hotel operates a regular shuttle to the BTS Station although some have reported trouble catching it back to the hotel. The CL is large, with an outdoor deck, and most people report not being given a choice for the complimentary breakfast in the restaurant. Most Plats report getting UG to a suite, with the M Suite seeming to be most common. It has a living room, bedroom and single large interior bathroom with separate walk-in showers and tubs. This is the largest hotel in Bangkok.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel Sukhumvit (Sukhumvit Soi 57) 2 ถนน สุขุมวิท 57 Phra Khanong, Khlong Toei, กรุงเทพมหานคร 10110, Thailand ([email protected]) is a two minute walk to the Thong Lo BTS Station. Getting to the station involves crossing Thong Lo intersection which can be daunting. The hotel is about a ten minute BTS ride to the central malls, the Ren, etc. The area is a little quieter and more "Thai" than the more touristy/business area where the JW, Ren and CY are located. Some people report being able to have complimentary breakfast in the restaurant while others report lounge only. The CL is about the same size as the Ren's and can get crowded in the early evening. The hotel is on the higher floors of a 40+ story building and the CL is located on one of the top floors, offering stunning views of Bangkok. There is a rooftop bar on the top of the building with great views, too. Elites are often given a coupon for a free drink on the roof. Plats report mostly getting UGs to a two room suite with an extra half bath. The main bath includes an enclosed toilet, a single large walk-in shower and a large soaking tub that can easily seat two. (While the tub is large, the JW, Marquis and Ren tubs are more comfortable for a single person looking to lean back and relax.) IMO this is the quietest of the hotels listed here.
  • Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse 262 Thanon Surawong, Khwaeng Si Phraya, Khet Bang Rak, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10500, Thailand is the newest hotel. As of April 2018 there are not many posts from users who have stayed, nor is there an abbreviation being commonly used on this forum. The hotel is not attached/close to a BTS or MRT station but is near the Silom business area and some more popular adult entertainment establishments.

The first time I stayed at the hotel I met a friend of mine there, who is an Army Chaplain. He was on leave. Around midnight, we returned to the hotel and sat in the lobby planning what we were going to do the next day before heading to our rooms. My observation at the time leads me to agree there is ample profit to be made charging a joiner fee.

And just to be clear: No judgment. These are adults. It's Bangkok. I don't care what anyone does or does not do. Just an observation. And please, nobody think that there was any sordid vibe in the lobby. The vibe is upscale hotel. It's not like the time in a US airport FS two hookers asked me if I wanted them to stop by my room after they finished with their client.

I have stayed here for many trips over the years. Typically around 4-6 times a year ranging for 3days to a week.

The staff is fantastic and I get treated very well. Most of the staff remembers me and is always very talkative.

I have always gotten an upgrade on each of my paid stays.

On a side note I have never ever been approached about a joiner fee nor told that there would be a fee for anybody visiting me.

This maybe new after July '14

What happened July , 2014?
e.g. The last time you stayed...new management...notorious incident...government crackdown?
I found the question intrusive ( God forbid I was being "profiled") but more so I had a contract that allows 2 people in my room, and both have a paid breakfast available at the Cafe. I had paid a premium for this, though admittedly I was only really interested in other elements provided in that package.

This has been around for ever at most of the BK hotels (and many other places for that matter). I have had it mentioned a couple of times when I checked in by myself or had booked a room for one person. I don't think there is something so strange about this- in EU as well almost all hotels charge for extra people as does APEC. I understand with this particular hotel location so close to NANA EP there is probably some extra comments for a certain customer set- not my deal but then again I don't judge either.

That was my last stay there.

I understand where you are at in your thinking with fee. And I personally can't stand the thought of it.

I have only been asked at a hotel once for that and I just added my gf to the reservation and then no fee. This was at the Hilton in Pattaya....as a diamond member. Since that incident I have not stayed there and I have stopped using Hilton.

I would hate to need to find a new hotel chain if marriott starts doing that.

Quick Soi 57 Review

5 day stay using certificates and points (thurs-mon)

Arrived at 9am and early check-in was not available (high occupancy). Was escorted to the executive lounge for breakfast while we waited for a room.

Room upgrade was also not available, was given corner room on the 34th floor. Corner rooms have massive bathrooms and the views were breathtaking, no power adapter was needed (universal style wall plugs).

Executive lounge was top notch as well as service. 5+ selections every morning plus a cook to order station for breakfast. Snacks and drinks throughout the day with sandwiches for lunch. Dinner hors d'oeuvres was limited to 2 hot options plus a cook to order station (complimentary alcohol). This is one of the best lounges I've ever been to. One interesting note was the 1+ 1 guest rule was very relaxed, I rarely saw them check names (presuming you had to keycard to the 40th floor)

Nice Infinity pool on the 7th floor but no hot tub

Octave Bar and Rooftop Lounge had breathtaking views of the city but service lacked as we sat around waiting for service (happy hour bogo 5-7pm)

Overall this a new modern property with top notch staff, everyone went above and beyond expectations. Its a little outside the main tourist area but you get the local feel with many food vendors outside. BTS is 1 block and very easy to get around the city. Overall 5 stars for the property / 4 stars for location. ^ I will not be surprised this property will be upgraded into higher categories in the next realignment. I would recommend and stay again.

Gold Status during this stay

OK, so quick poll.....

We will be in BKK in January for two nights before heading to Krabi and Phuket. We've been to the JW before-2011-and really liked it.

This time we have booked the Renaissance-just for a change.

I am Plat and its an award stay.

Good choice or would you stay elsewhere?

Cant go wrong with either the JW or Ren. I stay quite a bit at the JW, so that is my hotel preference in BKK, but if you ask 20 people on this board for their preference between the two, it will probably split 10 and 10.

Lounges - both very good. slight edge to JW
Location - maybe a slight edge to Ren as it is a bit closer to BTS,
Room upgrade - sounds like the Ren is more generous with upgrades to jr. suites. However, regular rooms in both locations are nice
Service - equally good at both locations
On site amenities - slight edge to JW. Good restaurants on site. Fitness center a bit nicer and the pool is not as cold.

I'm at the Ren right now -- my first time here. Checked in about an hour ago. Got upgraded to a minisuite. Not on same floor as lounge, but that's OK. Not much of a view (except that I can see the neighboring Courtyard). Nice, hard-wired and wifi internet. Seems to be fast. Delicious arrival gift.

It is a great choice, but I would stay elsewhere!

If you are staying on points, do the S57 property. It's only Cat 4, and it's likely the nicest Cat 4 property in the entire Marriott family of hotels. Why pay for a Cat 6 when you have a less expensive just as good option.

I've stayed at both properties within the past month. They are both excellent.

Never have I been asked and never would I pay. I book the room for 2 people and it is none of their business who the 2nd person is. Most they can demand is that the 2nd person registers which would not be a problem for me.

Have stayed at all the Marriott and Hilton Hotel as well as many others and at most got a knowing look which I would ignore.

Ok have read through this thread and not sure I found the answer....

Have a 12 hour layover coming in from MUC to BKK on Thai. So decided to redeem a night at Marriott Sukhumvit which appears about 18 miles from airport.

According to the Marriott website the offer a "Hotel Shuttle".

Questions:

#1 is this hotel shuttle to BKK international or another airport?
#2 IF to BKK is this a FREE shuttle or just paid organized transportation?
#3 It would appear taxi's (Read 300 BHT) are cheap in BKK so is this the BEST option (vs. confusing train system)?

Your thoughts, ideas, and comments are really appreciated....

tasnam - I'd say this a lot of hassle for a few hours sleep. Even in the dead of night the Marriott is 25 min away. At rush hour its an hour or more.

1) I never heard of this before - I assume its simply arranged transport.
2) Doubtful
3) Cheap but painful - I won't take a taxi to/from BKK

3) Cheap and painless. Yes, this is the best option.
