First time in Beijing last month and I stayed at the Marriott Northeast. Amazing property, amazing service.

The free Plat breakfast in the lounge had buffet-type options, but there was also a chef present to prepare eggs how you like them. Restaurants (three on site if you include the lobby-level bar area) were incredible. I could live in that hotel in retirement.

Clean rooms and well appointed. Great HVAC system as mentioned upthread. Staff pressed my business attire free of charge upon request. Zero complaints.

And regarding subway access -- 10-15 minute walk to Sanyuanqiao (sp.?) station -- only a kilometer away and it is served by Line 10 - one of the newer ones that also travel to Liangmaquiao (sp.?), the first stop of the Airport Express station ex-PEK. If I can manage a couple weeks off, I'm going back and I'm not even going to try another property. Beijing Marriott NE puts just about every domestic US FS/Ren to shame. Even beats a few RCs.

Thanks for all the views: I would love to stay at the Marriott NE as I've had a great experience here as well on a leisure stay. Unfortunately is just too far outside for where I will be working (google maps says 15.7km taxi or 72 minutes on the metro/walking) which is more than I'm willing to do regularly

However I hadn't considered the Renaissance Capital - it looks very nice, the challenge at the moment is likely to be the price, I will see if I can negotiate a slightly custom rate (I'm ideally looking for about $100USD/day, which would be enough for a hotel rather than an apartment). I guess it then comes down to negotiating skills as to whether I get something better or just the City Wall where my corporate rate is already pretty much at the price I am aiming for.

I just realized some of the exec lounge updates are dated for a few Beijing properties. If anyone can provide updates, I'd greatly appreciate it.

* Beijing / JW Marriott / OPEN; 2 free i-net terminals; free wifi; 04/18/13 update
* Beijing / Renaissance Chaoyang / OPEN; breakfast in restaurant or lounge; i-net terminal; 12/04/12 update
* Beijing / Marriott City Wall / OPEN; Plats get breakfast only in lounge. 4 computer terminals along with 2 printers and 1 scanner, but they work at snail/turtle speed; 10/11 update

Cheers.

Has anyone stayed at the JW recently in Beijing and can comment on what type of room upgrades they received as a Plat? Reviews on tripadvisor seem hit/miss on recognition & treatment of elite status, thx!

The Chaoyang Ren was a far cry from the Marriott NE (which is only 300 meters away). While Angela's personal touches made it comfortable, the physical plant itself was/is beyond repair. For example, unlike other hotels, it is tied to the central heating grid, which means common areas tend to be very cold in October and April. Furthermore, Air China was a very aggressive owner in a bad way. By contrast, HNA, which owns the Marriott NE, is much more passive.

Has anyone stayed at the new JW Marriott Central? I wasn't impressed by people's comments re: the old JW on Chaoyang. Made a booking for August. Couldn't find any tripadvisor reviews- too new. Guess I'll report back.

I was there a month ago - got an upgrade to an executive suite. Was using 2 cat 5 certs. Room is pretty nice, 1.5 bathroom.
Lounge is decent as well. Staff very professional but somewhat "robotic."

It's a brand new property so might take a few weeks to get some reviews. Let us know what you think.

Has anyone stayed at City Wall since 2011? Looking for an update to the exec lounge sticky. The website doesn't indicate if the lounge is open on the weekends, although my guess is they do. Here's what's currently listed in the sticky.

* Beijing / Marriott City Wall / OPEN; Plats get breakfast only in lounge. 4 computer terminals along with 2 printers and 1 scanner, but they work at snail/turtle speed; 10/11 update

Cheers.

Noticed on Marriott's website that the JW Beijing Central officially opened today, 06/26/14. If someone stays there, please do a trip report (in a stand-alone thread to make it easier for search).

Cheers.

Chinese Business Card for JW Mariott Beijing

Before we travelled to China last year, I had printed out the name and address of the JW Beijing in Chinese (from Flyertalk). I thought it would be a cinch to get the taxi driver at PEK to drop us off at the hotel. WRONG!

2 seperate taxi drivers had no idea what was written on the paper. We thought we'd never get into town. In the meantime, an English-speaking driver in a black minivan approached us and knew where the JW was. Onlt catch was that he wanted to charge us 600 yuan! Finally, a 3rd taxi driver arrived and had the smart idea to call the phone number on the paper and get the directions! The metered fare was just a little over 100 yuan.

We got the business card from the concierge and showed that to the taxi driver without any issue when we travelled around Beijing.

Here's a scan of the business card we received.

Scout report;

This new JW is a category 4, location is in Xicheng district which is in south west BJ. very near Xuan wumen subway station, line 2 & 4 , this subway station is only 4 km from BJ south HSR.
- Only JW i have seen with kitchens, but only on the 14th floor
- Good new modern EL on 15th floor with 2 EL check-in desks and several computers. Also a balcony in the EL for outside smoking
- Gym and large pool on 19th floor, they said the gym is open 24 hours now
- only 1st floor dining is open now, others later this summer/fall
- 340 rooms and 60 are suites, some suites with a balcony and the suites are large as are the standard rooms
- taxi from the new embassy area in Chaoyang is 50 rmb, so airport is about 120 rmb
- new staff speaks 'ok' english
- parking is free now, but this might chage in 2015
- 'again' its in south west BJ !

I still prefer Mrt NE due to location & great service, after 18 stays over the last 4 years there, but no smoking at this China Mrt . BTW i buy the fake Romeo Julieta #2's nearby in lady street area, singles in a tube are 30 rmb, 4 cigars for 100rmb. probably fake, but they smoke ok !.

This fall i will do a meeting there in the EL conference room so that the Chinese smokers can easily smoke outside on the EL balcony and have JW service.

yes the lounge is open, but seems llike a soft type open now. I have stayed at over a dozen Mrt's in china, several brands, & the EL's are always open on the weekends. The exception is the major Chinese holidays, then the EL's are closed, even on weekdays, and even in Shanghai.

Thanks Jiatong! How are the food offerings at the JW's EL?
