If your layover really is short, I suggest you focus on finding something in the Lido area, the Rosedale perhaps.

And, I remain a fan of the YoYo in SLT, but it's not for everyone (it's arguably the antithesis of your typical Marriott, though still clean and comfortable).
So, are there no good hotels near the airport? Whether Marriott or not?

The Hilton is one of the best airport hotels I've ever seen, but it is expensive.

The CITIC Hotel (formerly Sino-Swiss) is about 2 miles away from T3, and is acceptable in a pinch.

The Lido area is close enough (20 minutes) to suffice, and is actually an interesting place to stroll around. The Lido Hotel is semi-expensive, while the Rosedale (250 meters away) is not.

I am doing a family trip (ages from 26 to 39) with 4 of us (2 rooms). Trip is 10 days, looking to do sightseeing, etc, and wanting to stay in a Marriott property. I am plat & my brother is silver with Marriott. I think our priorities are:
1) Location - proximity to attractions & Transportation
2) Hotel - Cost & quality

Have been looking at:
1) Marriott Hotel City Wall
2) Renaissance Capital
3) JW Marriott (is the higher price worth it?)
Also open to other suggestions.

Edit:
Also, if using points where JW is the same price as City Wall, which one?

The best BJ point value is the Marriott NE. Cat 3 & service of a normal JW.
The city wall is nice, but by walk, not near much, JW is in a heavy traffic area, but has high end shopping and very near subway line 1.

JW

A few months ago, did simialr evaluation with help of experts here and other boards and chose JW. Proximity (it is not that close, good 5-6 NYC blocks from lobby to actual platform) to subway is good and so is high-end shopping and american food (right across hotel in mall). Lounge is pretty good.

was taken bit surprised by openly conducted "night business" but moondog explained that it is not that uncommon for westerners in china and would be prudish to get offended by it (and if it is that common then you would run into it in all properties)

This thread and other boards are pretty good at giving enough info to make decision that suits your needs.

I really love that hotel... more than the JW, I think (well, you know I'm a sucker for amazing swimming pools). The location isn't all that great, but none of the other Marriotts are all that well located either.

The Beijing JW is in need of new mattresses!
Probably the worst of any Marriott I have ever stayed at.
Even a Manager agreed that the time has come for NEW bedding!

Renaissance Chaoyang (NE)

Just checked in and found out that REN will not be managing this hotel after 31 DEC 2013. It will become Air China Beyou. Can already see the decline in service level. Sad to see this as it is one of my most comfortable spots. Guess I will be moving down the street to the Marriott NE.

Does that mean Hans is no longer at the Cap Ren? (I've been out of the loop for quite a while, it seems.)

Angela left about a year ago. She did a fantastic job with the place. heard she is doing the same with REN BJ. She is indeed a Marriott asset.

I am mourning the loss of this place. Leaving Tuesday. Thinking of a party in lounge Monday night

LOL. No smoking, but you can open the window and smoke for free in Beijing.

Hello,

We have a quick stopover on our way to Thailand. We will be staying at BJ Marriott NE. What is the best way to get from the airport to the hotel. I asked the hotel for rates and was given a rate of 148.00USD each way??? I changed my reservation from City Wall to NE just so the airport was more convenient. Also, is there any reputable Tours to the Great Wall that anyone would recommend? Thank you for any advice.
