I went there in May and enjoyed my stay. Was upgraded IIRC to an Astor Suite back then. I didn't have any concerns with the room except the fact that I didn't notice any Bose loudspeakers in the room that you come to expect of most St Regis hotels. A very nice spread at breakfast too.

It's a very nice property with a huge pool. It is however a way out of downtown Doha and the corniche. I didn't find this was a problem as I split my time between the W Doha and this property (I love both brands and couldn't make up my mind).

I would say the St Regis Doha would be as close as you can get to a resort whilst still being very close to downtown (not that downtown is very far either).

I had a very disappointing stay here. Booked 4 nights ,then extended it for a further 3 nights, then I cancelled the extenstion.

First let me say that everybody who worked at the hotel is just fantastic, from top to bottom they tried to make everything go away as much as possible, but that didnt work to make me stay longer.

1 day prior to arrival I was upgraded to a Caroline Astor Suite, prior to checking in I had very little sleep (6 hours of sleep in the past 48 hours). We checked in between 9 and 10 am, and while they prepeard our room, we went to have breakfast which we chose as our platinum amenity (which was a full buffet at Vine). Around 11 our room was ready and we went up on the 7th floor which was a smoking floor (I'm a non-smoker and chose a non-smoking room), the front desk agent said it's fine and I won't feel anything which turned out to be true just for the first couple of nights.

After getting to the room, my wife loved it and told me to extend the stay for a further 3 nights, so I did and requested to stay in the same room which they agreed as well. We challanged ourselves to stay up until 9 pm so we could have a good night sleep, at 9 pm and after over 60 hours of a little sleep, we went to bed. Here is where the problems started, there were fireworks right infront of our window that started going off because of Eid holidays (there was no warning of this at all), that made the hotel's alarm go off every 10 minutes, and for every 10 minutes my 1 year old daughter woke up crying and we try to get her back to sleep, this went for around 2 hours. Finally it stopped and we slept around 12 am and woke up at 3 am.

2nd day I requested housekeeping to come up and clean the room while we had breakfast and we stayed at the restaurant for 2 hours intentionally so they had enough time to clean the room, we went back to the room and nothing was cleaned, so the housekeeper cleaned the room while we were in the room. That night when we went to bed (this time there was a note from management in regards to the fireworks), I stayed up late until the fireworks stopped so I could sleep peacefully, the A/C broke in the bedroom and I had trouble sleeping, I slept at 12 am and woke up again at 3 am, I didnt call aybody about this during that time because I knew that they will need to come up to the room and I did not want that to happend while my wife and daughter were sleeping in the living room (the living room's A/C was fine, that's why they were sleeping there). Went back to sleep at 6 am but only for an hour because it was so hot. Contacted the butler service and told them about this, we went to breakfast and they came in and checked the room, they said its fixed but no it wasnt. So I asked to be moved to any other room. They changed us to a John Jacob Astor Suite on the same floor whch is a little bigger. There was a problem with the door that seperated the bedroom from the living room, I asked for them to fix it while we went out, after coming back 2 hours later the door wasnt fixed, I told them just to send me the screw driver and I will fix it myself (I tried to fix it but couldn't) I asked the night manager to cancel the extended reservation because I basically can't handle this anymore. On that night smoke reaked all over the suite, I couldn't sleep and certainly I wouldn't let my wife and daughter sleep in the suite. I was in bed during that time trying to sleep so I called a night manager and told him to move me to any room even if it was in the basement, I just wanted to have one good night sleep, by then it was over 100 hours with little very little sleep. So they took me to the other room while I'm in my robe, once I reached the room I went to bed as soon as I saw it. Woke up the next morning and I have no idea where my wife and daughter are. It seems that they upgraded us to an Empire Suite for the last night and my wife and daughter were sleeping in the other bedroom in the suite, I tried to downgrade myself because of some issues with the room but had no luck (The Empire suite has hardwood floor where the John Jacob and Caroline Astor had carpeted floor which helped my daighter to crawl around the room), The Director of Guest Services who was just fantastic by the way offered dinner at the Astor Grill which we couldnt because of our daughter being fussy at the moment so he offered it in the room which was fine.

So basically I had a very very disappointing stay, alot of issues in the hotel but Management and staff were basically top notch. I don't think I will return to the hotel but I left the hotel in good spirit because I did not want to ruin this trip with my wife. A friend of mine was staying at the W Doha at the same time and he enjoyed it, so that might be my option in the future.

Dear LovetoTravel83,

Thank you for your detailed review of your recent stay at The St. Regis Doha. Im delighted to read the very positive comments about all of the staff at the hotel, especially Tony Sharp, our Director of Guest Services.
However its disappointing to see you had a less than perfect stay due to a combination of circumstances, some without our control and unfortunately a few out of our control.

Fireworks can be a wonderful occasion, especially as part of the much anticipated EID celebrations in the region. We did not foresee the fireworks would have this effect on our fire alarm system; the team did everything they could to keep this under control, however not with the immediate desired effect. This must have been very frustrating when trying to have an early night sleep and I profoundly apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. The safety of our guest is our foremost priority, unfortunately this time the system didnt work in your favor.

Regarding your other comments, we will careful analyze how we can improve the level of service and some of the technical challenges you encountered. With a very full hotel we try to schedule the cleaning of the rooms in-line with the requests of our guests, however it is sometimes challenging to meet all of these requests, we endeavor to have the rooms cleaned before lunchtime where we can, especially for our preferred SPG members.

I do hope we can welcome you back to The St. Regis and have you enjoy not only our great staff this time, but also a stay where everything lives up to your expectation. Please do not hesitate to contact Tony Sharp or me directly for any future reservations at The St. Regis Doha or any other St. Regis hotel worldwide.

Yves,

It seems the hotel did not post my stay correctly, I've sent you a PM with my personal information.

Simultaneous Reservations - SPG points

Dear LovetoTravel83,

After checking with our SPG support team, they have informed us you will not be credited with your SPG points at The St. Regis Doha as you had a simultaneous booking in another Starwood hotel under the same name, during the same period. Allow me to remind you that only 1 stay can be eligible for points. I hope this answers your question.

Allow me,

Looking at this hotel attending an event at the Sheraton:
- which room categories feature non-smoking rooms ? Does upgrade mean smoking ?
- how efficient is transport ? Availability of public taxis compared to overpriced limousines, and traffic in particular

Thanks

Dear banzani,

Thank you for considering staying at The St. Regis Doha. All roomtypes are available as smoking or non-smoking rooms. We have dedicated smoking floors available if you would prefer a smoking room. You can find an overview of all different roomtypes via this link: http://www.stregisdoha.com/rooms.

Secondly we have a combination of different transport options the concierge team will be able to assist you with. Taxis are available at the main entrance of the hotel. In extreme cases when a taxi is not instantly available, the concierge can call a taxi for you or arrange an affordable limousine service. We will make sure to present you with different options.

I hope this answers your questions, please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with prior to your arrival. If you are an SPG member, there are some great promotions just now: http://exclusives.stregis.com/St-Reg...rpoints-offers.

just got here and unfortunately very disappointed. Have triggered a reasonable amount of business for this hotel and exchanged several emails with the hotel prior to arrival. One of my upfront requests was to be sure to be given a non-smoking room. Upon arrival, several staff running around in the lobby but nobody to take care of guests willing to check in. this is the stay that gets me to LT Platinum and no upgrade available, yet some colleagues with no status have been upgraded. Sure enough I end up in a smoking room which smells of smoke badly. so it seems to be a case of high stress/occupancy period and lack of process and coordination. It's late now but I let them know I am not happy and want to move tomorrow. Not a good first impression, will see what happens.

Happened to me as well. Got a smoking room even though I booked a non-smoking room. It seems they're still having the same problem.

I'm incredibly impressed with the responsiveness of this hotel, through Yves. That alone will lead me to try it (plus, of course, I like StR properties).

One thing, though, if you don't mind a suggestion. Once you're dealing with a specific individual on his/her problem(s), I think that it would be better to keep any specifics private. So, for example, with LovetoTravel83's issue, I think that it would have been better to post something more along the lines of, "LovetoTravel83, I've sent you an email. I hope that it answers your question. If not, please feel free to contact me again by PM here, or by email at [email address]."

I will definitely let you know when I make a reservation, and will look forward with great anticipation to trying this property.

I am with you on the great contact and attitude but so far upon arrival none of my expectations were met. Besides above issues there was no mention of any Plat benefits. I had to enquire and said I would like the breakfast. I was not given a voucher and sure enough was asked to sign a check this morning. They said I should sort it out with reception later.

No turndown service, no newspaper delivery, which should be standard at such property. When getting off the elevator on my floor I see scratched service doors looking cheap, and several room numbers have fallen off the room entrances. Hard to believe this property is only a year or so old.

Quick update, was contacted by Head Butler and moved to very nice non-smoking suite. Move was done with great attention to detail without me needing to be there.

He mentioned some high-stress period last night so things may have fallen between the cracks.

This now looks much better and hope stay will be smooth from here on.

We had meals at both Astor and Sultan Brahim. Quality is quite good albeit expensive (as expected I guess).

I have had a really hard time trying to book their online offers.
I found one that admittedly was outdated but I thought perhaps it was a typing error and called up reservations to confirm. They initially led me to believe that they could honour the offer as it was their fault it was still on the website but later retracted this offering me an upgrade but i would need to book the rack rate (which would be silly to do as they have offered for stad room at half the price including breakfast so i may as well get 2 rooms on offer).

below is an extract of the message I then sent to Yves two weeks ago; no response as yet which I find even more disappointing. Does anyone have the details of who else I may escalate my disappointment to?

"My main requirement is for a suite so that my husband and I can stay awake in one room whilst our son sleeps in another room.

Last week I found the following offer on your website:

http://www.stregisdoha.com/en/summer

I called up reservations to inquire about the booking as I could not make the booking online.
I spoke with the reservation manager, Hany who asked me to send though a screen shot of the offer and he would see what could be done to honour it.
After I sent it, I heard nothing for several days and eventually when I was able to get through to him on the phone, I was told that my email had been sent on to the marketing department and he would try and get the offer honoured even though it was no longer available.

I waited a few more days and sent a follow up email today to understand the progress of the matter. He has not confirmed it but I expect that there has been no feedback from marketing and so all that he could offer in conclusion was a suite upgrade (subject to me paying the rack rate of a standard room) and this would amount to 1200qar.
No breakfast, no lunch/dinner at opal, no spa treatment, just the room.

Whilst I appreciate his efforts, I must admit I was quite disappointed as our initial discussion to ‘honour the offer’ was rather akin to what I have experienced in the past at St. Regis properties. Our most recent discussion unfortunately, was rather lacking in quality customer service.

I will be looking at other hotels to finalise a stay but in the interim, if you can provide any insight and help on the matter, I would appreciate it.

For reference my husband’s spg number is xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Regards,
xxxx"
