A few notes and snaps from a recent stay
Just stayed at the Naka for 3 nights (paid, not redemption), here's a few obervations :
Had booked the transfer service from HKT, and despite the flight being an hour late arriving the driver was there waiting, BMW trip to the marina was calm and efficient, and we were met by a couple of the Naka ambassadors and escorted onto the speedboat for the 5 minute blast across to the island, which, in the dark, was a memorable experience.
Met on the pier by another ambassador and we were buggied straight to the villa, pausing only to bong the welcome gong and make a wish. Check-in took plce in the villa itself, which was a nice touch, and it was explained that as a plat, I could have free breakfast (though the room rate included it anyway) and a free drink at the Z bar each evening on presentation of my plat key holder.
In-room wi-fi automatically recognised my plat status and so offered free service. No speed problem either.
Villa has plentiful supplies of bottled drinking water, tea and coffee making, plus tv, dvd player and Bose ipod dock.
Free activities include yoga, thai boxing, beach volleyball etc. Kayak, windsurf and hobie cat were free too, you only pay if you have an ambassador accompany you.
The resort itself has a nice vibe - that lovely 'more space than people' ratio which meant that there was never any problem getting a good sunbed by the pool. Staff were universally excellent : polite, engaging and always with a smile.
The Tonsai restaurant is lovely : it's by the pool and beach and has a super openair design with great views back to the mainland and Phang-Nga.
Food was fine : breakfast in the Tonsai restaurant was a reasonable buffet with both local and Western dishes, plus a menu of cook-to-order items.
Took dinner in the Tonsai twice here too, again, food was fine and service charming and efficient. Dinner prices were surprisingly reasonable :
Buffet THB1150 which included a glass of sparking wine
Burger THB480
Starters range from THB300 to THB500, mains from about THB400 to THB800.
Menu includes two Thai set menus, one at THB900 and the other THB1100, both min 2 persons.
And despite the resort not really being aimed at guests with children, there's a good children's menu too.
Didn't eat at "My Grill". Everyone seemed to eat at the Tonsai.
Sundown as the Z bar at the end of the island was spectacular, its a great spot with some funky sofas to chill on. They have a special plat menu of complimentary drinks to choose from which you get on presentation of your plat key holder. Nice touch was they remembered me the next night.
As for getting off the island, we didnt even think aboout it. There's nothing much in the vicinity of the marina to cross over for anyway. The main reason to stay here is for the huge personal chillout space you get in your villa, so if you want to go sightseeing on Phuket mainland every day, then stay somewhere else. That said, they will arrange for one of the boat tours to Phang Nga (which pass by the island anyway) to call in and pick you up, alternatively they can arrange a private longtail tour.
As for the villas, I booked and got the lowest category (the tropical pool villa). Most of the villas have the same footprint and facilties, the price difference being the sea view, or lack of.
Plat 4pm checkout was granted without question.
I'm fortunate in having another vist here in a few days time, after going back to Phuket mainland to do the regular tourist stuff. I'm in the "would come back in a heartbeat" camp, it's great here.

Couple of links.....
Useful links :
+1. Lovely dinner trip. Just drop an e-mail to the address on the Tenta Nakara website, and they'll organise the longtail boat transfers. Pickup at the Naka pier is normally at 6pm, the round trip costs THB600.
We did the Laguna Tours Phang Nga bay 4-in-1 tour from the Naka, and +1 to the 'outstanding' rating.
E-mail Laguna at the address on their website and they will pick-up/drop at the Naka pier. They will also pick-up/drop for their Phi Phi tour too.
It was also frustrating trying to obtain information and arrange tours prior to our stay. It was only though the assistance of the luxury property collection liaison that I was able to arrange a tour of Phang Nga Bay. The Laguna Phuket Tour Company they suggested was outstanding! We only had five people on the tour and they picked up at the dock of the hotel. The boat was in pristine condition and the guide was outstanding. I was told at the resort they now use a different tour company but used to use Laguna.

Oops!
I've had my eye on this property for a few months, mostly because it looks interesting. Although, I have to admit that it's a bit outside my price range.
At first, this property was loading C&P rates for the standard villas. Then, they took those away, but were still doing standard point redemptions. They've caught on to that, and now this property is a "limited participation" property. I guess that means 2x the points for a villa

By the way, you can walk to Tenta Nakara if desired. I don't recommend taking the bike there.
- Exit the resort toward the fishing village
- Turn right towards the pier
- Turn left just before the market
- Continue walking on the path until you pass the hospital on your right
- You will soon be on a dirt road
- Keep on the dirt road and you will encircle the island to get to the resort.
I'd say ~30 min walk.
