Taste of Gold/Platinum
You are given gold/platinum status for 90 days, and you must complete a certain number of nights/stays to retain that status for the remainder of the year plus the following year. This promotion is targeted only.

Road to Gold/Platinum (a.k.a. Gold/Platinum Challenge)
Currently, this will allow you to move up one level with a shortened stay criteria. You have 90 days to complete 6/9 stays to receive Gold/Platinum status. If you do no qualify, you are eligible to start another challenge one year and one day after the 90th day of the challenge you just did. When you sign up, the MR CSR should tell you the date you are eligible to do another challenge.

FAQ

Q: What qualifies as a stay?
A: One paid night at a Marriott-brand (including Ritz-Carlton Hotels) hotel. Cash+points rate does not qualify. SPG hotels does not qualify (as of 03/2017). Some exclusions may apply, someone please help fill this in.

Q: Can I simply book multiple, consecutive one-night stays at the same hotel?
A: No.

Q: Can I jump between multiple Marriotts in the area?
A: Yes. As long as you book at least one night at each property. Special care must be taken if the Marriott properties are next to each other. They may share the same back-office. While you may book one night at each property on consecutive nights, which should count as two stays, it may only count as one stay. A call to Marriott Rewards should split them up correctly.

Q: Can I book multiple nights at different properties for the same night to get multiple stay credits?
A: No. Regardless how many different places you book for the same night, it all counts as one stay.

Q: Can I sign up for both Gold and Platinum Challenges at the same time?
A: No. Only one challenge per year.

Q: I'm Silver, can I do the Platinum challenge?
A: No. This is only a one-level promotion. You are only eligible for the Gold challenge.

Q: Can a non-elite do the Gold Challenge
A: No. Must be Silver.

Q: I just completed my 6th/9th stay. When should I see my new status?
A: Good job! Your new status should appear after your 6th/9th stay posts to your account.

Q: Can I book a meeting to get a stay credit?
A: No. You will only receive 10 night credits, not a stay credit.

Sure, will do that.

Thanks

Taste of gold - Gold challenge

I'm currently silver, though was platinum for a year and a half, dropped to gold in January 2015, then silver at the beginning of 2016.

I called the MR line, and they told me I was only eligible for the gold challenge, without gold benefits until after completing the challenge (fairly benign, only six stays between now and December 31st).

I did not mention status match, or any other chains.

Is there a trick to get the taste of gold, where you get the gold benefits while completing the challenge?

For the most part - no. "Taste of Gold" is offered only by HQ.

Since you've got the "Road to Gold" & only need 6 stays by the end of the year, it's not like you have to wait until the 50th night to get the bennies.

Cheers.

Indeed, and I already have five stays booked between now and October 2nd (multi-city trip). It just would've been nice to have gold level as the first stay will be in Hong Kong, and they treat elites really well over there.

Find someone to designate you as their 1KMM companion - you will get matching Marriott gold status as long as you remain the designated UA 1KMM "companion".

How well?
I'm staying there over Xmas week as a platinum. At the renaissance? What should I expect?

When I was plat, I was consistently upgraded to high floor rooms with views, and the welcome food was a pretty decent cheese and fruit platter.

Hi all,

I've searched this thread (and the interwebs) and cannot seem to find a definitive answer to the question of whether Points + Cash stays count towards the 9 stay requirement for the path to Platinum challenge. Does anyone know? There was one DP on like page 62 of this thread but it was far from definitive and with all the combined experience on FT I assume someone knows the answer to this question by now.

Thanks all.

currently Marriott Gold via SPG Gold. Tried to ask a rep to do road to plat challenge and was told I needed 50 nights in the calendar year to be eligible for the challenge. Is this new? Why would I need to do the challenge if I already 50 nights. What would the purpose be? so dumb.

Sounds like you talked to an agent who didn't quite realize what you were asking. Try calling back.

Cheers.

You are definitely correct. But the person I requested was a Marriott associate that takes challenge requests on the inside reward Marriott website. I also emailed the Marriott members elite email and they didn't even offer me. So then, I called in and they immediately verified my eligibility and offered me the challenge.

So some agents are clueless what they can offer or they are just too lazy to figure it out.

To help others out, the number I called was Marriott Rewards Members
1-801-468-4000. They will give you the current month + the next 3 months to complete the challenge. Make sure you complete it in January so you can get it extended to 2018.

Sounds like the rep is saying you need to have "earned" MR Gold to be able to do a challenge to MR Plat. The status match does not get you the tier nights. For instance, if you are SPG Gold and link your accounts to get MR Gold, you will still need to get credit for 75 MR nights to get MR Plat, unless you make Plat with SPG Plat before then.

This is in line with people that do a promo to Gold in either of the programs, they still need to meet the rules for Plat and not just the difference between the two tiers. Technically, you are promo Gold with MR.

I don't think it has to be earned. Because Marriott give out silver to some corporates for free, some people get the gold from the Ritz Carlton card. When I got the silver status from my corporate, I had zero stays and was able to do the gold challenge just by asking.

By talking to the correct rep, from my understanding, you just need to be gold status to do the plat challenge. For taste of platinum, you need to be targeted.

Since all of my stays were at SPG this year, I could have got SPG plat from the same amount of stays that I would need with Marriott Plat. challenge. But moving forward, I would like to accumulate the nights for gold LT at Marriott.
