Two new announcements for Saudi Arabia:
  • The St. Regis Riyadh / 83 rooms [including 23 suites], two signature restaurants, an outdoor pool, fitness centre and spa
  • The Jeddah EDITION / 63 rooms, a signature restaurant, lounge bar, rooftop bar, penthouse terrace, spa, fitness center, and indoor and outdoor pools
The St. Regis Riyadh will be located in the luxury, mixed-use Via Riyadh development, while the Jeddah EDITION will open as part of the Jeddah Yacht Club. Both properties are opening in 2022. Room rendering below of The St. Regis.

EDIT: I confirmed that The St. Regis Riyadh will be located in a low-rise building of no more than 5-6 floors on a site directly adjacent to the infamous Ritz-Carlton Riyadh. I also found a week-old photo of the Jeddah EDITION, which is located next to the Al Rahma Mosque on the North Corniche with one of the F1 track bends at its doorstep. Construction appears to be physically complete and Marriott also has many job openings listed on its careers site, so I would imagine this one to open in a matter of months.

What tends to happen with future award stays at properties after the point they have left Marriott? I’m guessing the stay is sometimes honoured, however elite benefits less likely? Property in question is a Luxury Collection which I know is considering a quick and sharp exit from Marriott.

The first 14 hotels in the Diriyah Gate megaproject west of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, have been announced, and include announcements from Marriott and just about every major brand under the sun. The hotels will be breaking ground and opening in succession between 2022 and overall project completion in 2026, with other announcements coming every year.

Marriott will bring a Ritz-Carlton to the project, as well as a 141-room Luxury Collection hotel that will be the first hotel to open in the overall development when it debuts in 2022.

Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Steamboat Springs

This Colorado Fairfield property, along with the Hampton Inn & Suites Steamboat Springs, is being converted to long-term workforce tenant housing in response to a shortage in the area. While I never stayed at the Fairfield I did stay at the Hampton and appreciated its very large upstairs family suites featuring 2-3 king beds.

Delta Hotels Baltimore North

Is this property leaving Marriott? There is no availability for the next 3 months at least. I did not look further than that. Highly unlikely that it is completely sold out for 3 months.

This is the hotel that used to be the Radisson Cross Keys. It is a bit tired but the location is very good for me when I need to go to Baltimore.

Did a little digging, and it seems that Le Méridien Penang is opening in a new-build development with a hotel and branded residences directly connected to a mall and Penang International Airport.

Opening 2026.

Looks like the former Omni Dallas Park West is becoming the Renaissance Dallas North Hotel in January 2022.

Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark also now within Marriott.

It's up on the website under its transitional name, Austin Southpark Hotel, no announcement of which brand it will take yet

This means that 4 (Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Tallahassee) of the 5 Omnis that were sold became Marriotts, and one (Houston) became a Hyatt (ironically restoring it to its original brand). Sounds like a win for all of these properties.

W Macau - Studio City has just been announced for Phase 2 of the Studio City project. This is the second time the same W has been announced, and now that the buildings are structurally topped out, this one might actually materialize. Speaking of, it’s opening in one of two magnificent Art Deco-/vintage Hollywood-inspired buildings designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.

Opening December 2022.

I wonder which brand the other hotel tower will be. Here's their press release, "Studio City Strikes Again:"

https://www.studiocity-macau.com/en/...-strikes-again

I do find it slightly funny that they chose to name their luxury resort "Studio City," because while the name sounds very movie-oriented to anyone not from LA, to anyone who lives here, it's just a suburb on the other side of the hills in "the Valley." It's not a fancy area at all, it's a more affordable area. It's not dangerous or anything, it's a perfectly nice middle class residential neighborhood, but it's definitely not luxurious. The name certainly doesn't have the allure of Beverly Hills, or Bel Air, or Brentwood, or even Hollywood (which isn't that fancy an area, but which people associate with the whole film industry and not the urban area it actually is).
