I've stayed at the W Boston twice in the past 3 weeks. Overall good experience and a big improvement over the very tired Westin Copley.

Booked Wonderful King on both stays. On the first stay, I was greeted profusely as a platinum by the FD clerk and he commented a couple of times about how much I must stay with Starwood to have so many points, so I was thinking I was in for an upgrade. Got to the room and found it to be a standard, smallish king room. Checked online and saw mega corner rooms available - called down an asked, and after some checking around, was moved. Room was a large corner room with 2 queen, lots of space.

On the second stay, I was pre-upgraded (without any effort on my part) to a "Studio Suite". Not really a suite, but a large corner room with a chair and a sectional lounge-sofa thing by the windows, a large bath with separate tub and shower, and a nice desk arrangement behind the bed.

I'll definitely stay again when I'm in Boston.

I've looked at the photos online (google search included) and I have a question about the bathrooms in either Wonderful/Mega room or Studio Suite. Is the inside of the bathroom visible from the room (from the bed, let's say).

I'm thinking about similar to W Times Square which are frosted glass, if I remember well, as opposed to W Hong Kong where you can definitely close the big sliding doors to the whole bathroom (not just shower and toilet), for more privacy.

I'm recommending this hotel to some friends, but they prefer bathrooms with privacy.

Thanks!

I've stayed in both Mega and Studio Suite rooms. There is an opening between the room and the bathroom that is covered with a kind of thick mesh screen with a print on both sides - so it's pretty opaque, but when someone is in the bathroom with the light on, you can definitely see through (although the toilet is in a separate room with a real solid door. Definitely not the privacy of a traditional closed bathroom.

Thanks, I think that will do.

The shower I could see in the photos, however about the toilet I had no idea. It's not something that is shown in the hotel's photos usually.

The 'mesh' screen is also true for the King Wonderful room also, so there is some privacy but it's not really closing the door. It's privacy similar to a very weakly frosted glass

Nice Hotel but No W Bed!

I stayed at this hotel last weekend to use up my 2008 Plat gift. Even though I've only had two qualifying stays this year (goodbye Plat -- boohoo), I was upgraded to a Studio "Suite."

Regarding the bathroom privacy issue: When the bathroom lights are on, there is NO privacy for the tub or shower dressing area. The screen becomes completely transparent, and you can see a person through it as easily as if it were not there. For this reason, I undressed in the shower, which in a corner room is more than spacious enough for that activity.

The real reason for my post (after a 2+ year absence), however, is to point out that this property does not use the W Hotel bed -- i.e., the Beautyrest mattress and featherbed. Wondering the next morning why it didn't feel like I'd just slept in a cloud, which is my usual W Hotel experience, I pulled back the sheets to find a blue Fireguard mattress (????) and thin mattress pad. Upon checkout, I asked the clerk about this property's deviation from the standard W Bed, and he validated my observation but did not know why the W Bed had not been placed in this property (he also said that he was a member of the New Build Team for this hotel).

Oh, and there are no coffeemakers in the rooms (perhaps they've been removed from all W rooms as a cost-saving measure?). Too bad, I really enjoyed W's in-room coffee.

As others have pointed out, however, there are other factors that recommend this hotel. The staff is warm and hospitable, Market is excellent and reasonably priced for a hotel -- not to mention Jean-Georges -- restaurant, and the location is superb (although it can get noisy in the room since the hotel is in the heart of the Theater District; reminded me of the street noise I always suffered through staying at the Palace Hotel in S.F.).

Happy travels in the New Year to all!

I just finished a very enjoyable 5 night stay at the W Boston. I was upgraded to a studio suite several days before checking in which was nice. Part of me was hoping for a larger room, but was very satisfied once I got to my room. When I first walked in, there was a plate of three tiny chocolate and caramel covered apples, a bottle of water and a personalized note from "Bill" welcoming me and thanking me for being a loyal guest. The room itself wasn't huge by any stretch, but being on the corner of the building with two walls that were floor to ceiling window was perfect (I love natural light when I'm staying in a hotel)

I didn't spend much time in the public areas, or eat at the hotel, but everything about my stay was perfect. This has become my new favorite W property, edging out Montreal in my mind.

I haven't seen a coffee maker in a W for quite a while, atleast in the last 12 months or so. I did ask for one during this stay, and they brought it up to me in what had to have been no more than 5 minutes after hanging up the phone.

Checked in today for my second visit to this property. Upon check-in, I was upgraded to the "Corner Studio Suite." The descriptions above are accurate about this room.

Also very accurate are the comments about the staff. The staff here are fantastic!

Here are some shots of the studio suite (crappy camera phone quality, sorry):

Entering the room, the bathroom is to the right and the living area is to the left:

The bathroom has a tub and a shower with the toilet in a WC with door. You can see the large mesh thing that others have mentioned and you'll notice its transparency:

Here's the bed. Notice the floor to ceiling windows and the large couch to the left:

This is the bed. The area behind the chain mail thing hanging behind the bed is the minibar and desk area. The large black striped thing to the right is the other side of the mesh thing from the bathroom. It's opaque when the lights are off in the bathroom.

View of the TV/stereo area... The TV is 46" plasma (I think) and the stereo is a nice Bang and Olufsen unit.

This is the desk area behind the bed:

I, too, received the plate of chocolate and caramel apples with a handwritten note from "Bill," wishing me a nice stay and thanks for my loyalty:

This is a great hotel and one of my new favorites in the *wood brand! Thanks, Bill! (whoever you are)

It's William P. Bunce, the General Manager. Actually, the published email address of W Boston is still [email protected].

Probably no immediate affect to the property...

The W Boston Hotel developer has filed for bankruptcy according to this Reuters story http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE63S3H420100429

Stayed at the W Boston the 2nd time last week for 7 nights... got upgraded from a corner suite to a WOW suite (again).. Overall the stay was only ok and nowhere as good as the time before when the hotel first opened.. Main complaint was that housekeeping wasn't done very well IMHO.. I drank from one of the glasses in the living room the first day and left it by the bar sink, and it stayed there until I checked out.. Turndown was inconsistent and only happened 1/2 the time.. Guest bathroom was seldom cleaned and trash left in there was cleaned out 2 out of the 7 nights..

Rest of the staff were all very good still.. and there were a few exceptional ones from the bell/valet staff who consistently remembered my name and chatted with me a few times as I was waiting for my car..

Will have to rethink staying here in the future especially since I noticed the rates have started to creep up...

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. We asked them about pricing there when we were looking for a condo and it was well over $1K per square foot, above virtually every luxury property in Boston. Last I heard, they had only sold ten condos.

Similar to W Atlanta Downtown's one sold condo and W New York Downtown's 26 or so sold condos (out of over 200).

Starwood or VIP Contact

Hi and Hello...I have booked a long weekend at the end of June to celebrate birthday and wedding anniversary with my wife. I have emailed the Hotel Manger 2 x now over the past three weeks. Surprised that I have had zero reply from the hotel. First time ever I have not received a reply from a hotel when I have personally contacted them. I had a few small requests not huge but would have been nice to be acknowledged. I tried calling but was put on Hold for a longtime. I did reach a voice-mail but no call back.

Does anyone have a Starwood or VIP guest contact at the W Boston?
This will be my first time trying the W after years of using the Copley Westin.
I will say after reading your reviews ( room quality, Plat benefits, quality of upgrades etc) I am strongly considering a change.

Any Assistance is appreciated. Maybe a Lurker will have some info?

Thanks! Safe and fun travels.

My apologies, but I have no contacts at the W Boston. You might try contacting Corporate Customer Service and letting them know that your attempts to email the hotel manager have proved unfruitful, however. 800-328-6242. Good luck.
