Found one lone card that was somewhere in the store.
Took it to a cashier to buy it.
Credit card charged.
Credit card immediately refunded.
Besides the main receipt two small slip of papers printed.
One small slip of paper said that the VGC can not be activated.
One small slip of paper said that $504.94 will be credited back ...

I'll add another successful activation of a 4.94 vgc in an entirely different state, exp 7/34, all black packaging with gold/silver trim. I remember these being killed like 5+ years ago at another store in this state, with the auto-refund (which also randomly happens at sam's). My other successes were the new packaging that look exactly like the MC, exp 2034. Anyways, I wouldn't hesitate to try any 4.94 that I found anywhere, worst case scenario you get insta-refund(so don't use another gc to buy if you're unsure)

DPs indicate not at WM. How about FD?
Seem to be plenty of these Happy Birthday cards at my WM, Incomm and Meta Bank.

I just bought one MC and one Visa from a grocery store. MC activated fine when I called in to activate it but Visa did not activate when I called and, according to the rep I spoke with, the funds were never loaded to the card. I sent in copies of the Visa card and the receipt while they "investigate". The receipt and slip that printed out say "approved" for both cards.
Which is all to say, perhaps the Visas should not have been sold. The store where I purchased this is not my usual store and all my usuals have removed Visas as far as I can tell.
Very strange for Incomm to get out of the Visa game if that's what's happening. Of course, even more annoying to have this happen in the first place.

I emailed in the required information to get a replacement on 9/7. They replied on 9/11 (third business day) that they completed their investigation and that a replacement would be mailed. I received the replacement on 9/19 and I activated and liquidated it no problem the same day.

It must be location specific because I still can unload $500 where I live (at about 95% success rate, 5% of the time the card unpredictably declines and requires a replacement). Now maybe if I had done $199 that 95% would become 100%.

It's been a couple of months since I had an issue with a PW/Incomm card, but I had one fail when trying to load Discover at Customer Service yesterday. When I logged into the Vanilla website, it said that the card is on hold, so called, and a replacement is on its way. I've gone through this dozens of times, but this is the first time I saw the "hold" language when going online.

I guess my question is two-fold. I imagine that lower unloading amounts, such as $470 all the way down to $199 will work for Discover. Is that the case for other cards such as Serve or One?
And the second: Do these WM VGCs permit loading of BB cards at FD, and if so, for how much??
I have never bought a WMGC, so this is all new territory for me. TIA

Yes, I attempted to load the full $500, which I've never had an issue doing up until this point. I have loaded $10K month (rolling 30 days) for a few years up until this juncture without an issue. I'll give it another try today just to see if this is something new, or if it was just a PW/Incomm card issue.

How much do you put on the gift card -- $470 or $500? Wondering if it will work if you fully drain a $470 card or do you have to use a $500 card and leave $30 on it. It would be a hassle to continually have to get rid of the remaining $30.

Just curious what the benefit is in purchasing vgc's at Walmart. Are there cards that earn 5% CB for Walmart purchases? I purchase the $500 vgc's at drugstores to earn 5% CB on my Amex OBC card and quarterly 5% promos for Citi, Chase, and Discover cards for drugstores. Used to purchase $500 vgc for the grocery 5% CB at Kroger but don't anymore since the BHN cards don't work anymore at Walmart. So now I am limited to purchasing at CVS and Walgreens to earn 5% CB on drugstores.
