The BHN Mastercards from Kroger stopped working at Kroger for $479. Fortunately, someone on here said $469. I tried that amount the next day after making a purchase. It worked. They work one day and the next day unauthorized. I wonder who is setting the amount.

Have you found which amount works now? I was away for a week, and tried to use MC Pathfinder (bought in Winndixie) for $479 (always worked) and it was "not authorized". didn't want to take a risk and paid with regular debit.

Were you trying to liquidate these at Kroger or different store?

$469 works. I made a purchase before the MO.

Kroger. These do not work at Walmart.

You do not need to make a purchase.

Replacements are getting increasingly difficult for me to get, InComm reps want to "escalate to back office" (read: do nothing and waste your time), or want receipt and 30 days to "investigate", and you have to get more creative to get them to just give you a replacement outright.

Yesterday my VGC failed for $250 at two different WMs as I expected, but didn't get locked. Which is kind of a problem because it blows my latest strategy of deliberately locking the card, then calling for a replacement which works anywhere.

Does a full 500 drain at WM still lock the card?

Incomm locked up during Serve load on the first swipe, usually it’s the second swipe that locks up here. CS said the system tried to “record” my card number and put it on hold. Funny enough, I’ve loaded this same Serve card twice earlier, just not with Incomm.

I also have good luck draining the last dollar at grocery stores and elsewhere. Just run it, most grocery stores "auto drain" it, meaning the systems sees it can only charge $1 to the card and does so automatically. Then you have to swipe another. Some places it doesn't auto-drain, the card just gets declined. Then you have to ask "Can you split the transaction please, I've got a buck left on this silly gift card and want to use it". They cashier will oblige.
Costco autodrains VGCs as an option too

I posted similar question on the other place until seeing this thread. I felt it is more related.
i have issue getting MO at Kroger (Fredmeyer here) since last month. Tried 5 different Fredmeyers (never had issue before) with same issue (basically recognized not as debit card). I always buy $449 or less with $500 pathward visa gift card purchased from Fredmeyer. I did them for last three years having no issue until June. One associate said they had a system software update. No sure it is true. I tried with different cards with different amount, before a purchase and after a purchase, no success. Did I do something wrong or someone had same experience?

I've found in my area that stores in one county started throwing "not authorized" on vanillas a couple months back, but the neighboring county has never failed for the full amount(literally like 2 miles apart but in technically different counties). I tend not to go back and test places often where payments failed, so maybe it was temporary. The onus is on you tho to test out different locations in your area. There's certainly no nationwide blackout tho. Yet...

thank you for your quick response. I did try different stores, even different states as I live on the border of two states (WA and Oregon) and got the same "not authorized". Hope it is temporary but it has been two months. I reduced to do $300 MO, it still did not go. I suspect they update the system at least in my area. Good to hear not nationwide yet. Maybe I shall try different cards.
