After trying my first Walmart I went to the other Walmart in town which is a "neighborhood market". I told her I wanted to do $600 but in three transactions since at the other Walmart telling them $400 caused an error. I tried a 511332 MCGC which I didn't have any faith in based on the DP sheet and sure enough it failed. I asked her to run it again but for $99 instead and that also failed. I then went back to the VCG at $200 and that failed. I tried it for $99 and it went through. I ran the same card again for $99 and it went through. I then got a fail running another VCG for $99 and she said she didn't know why so I tried a separate VCG for $99 and it worked. After that I had a couple more fails with separate cards so I threw in the towel. So I got a total of $697 in today. What I found interesting is my Discover account shows the initial transaction as a $400 deposit and then it shows the other Walmart as three separate $99 deposits. I'm assuming the employees somehow did it differently which is why I had more issues at the neighborhood market than the regular Walmart?

I am hoping to get some clarification about loading Pathward BHN VCG $500 (4358 80) using Discover at WM. I am seeing three different load amount being suggested: $499, $480 or $479 so just wanted to verify and get some recent DPs before I go try this weekend. Just trying to avoid locking my card. Thanks!

Because you are putting unnecessary eyes on your all your failed transactions. In this hobby, we are trying not to rock the boat. Yes, the VGC and MCGC say debit but remember, your dealing with minimum wage workers who either don’t know what they’re doing or make up they’re own rules. Once enough issues happen, management may get involved and then a store memo goes out and associates are then required to see your debit card prior to loading and told NOT to allow gift cards to load Discover or Serve or any of the other cards. There is ample information in the FlyerTalk manufacture spend thread to learn about the issue with Mastercard gift cards (defaults as credit) but you’d know that if you had taken the time to educate yourself. I have been doing this since the Kate days and have learned from this website and others as well as my own data points but I am always aware of how my actions can effect others in my area trying to do the same thing.
Right now, one of my three local Walmarts has just been taken out of use (asking to see the debit card) most likely because of similar behavior to yours. |

Today I go into one of my regulars for my usual 499 1 swipe limit (about 2 years ago I was cut down to 1 transaction per day) Long story short he gives me the heads up about management wanting to file paperwork with the IRS because I've been doing so many transactions for X amount of dollars for X amount of years. Stating tomorrow or the next time I come in he'll (or whomever working) is when this will all happen. Anybody heard or had this happen?
Thinking it all started from this: I'll keep this short 11/27/24 My son was in town for the holidays he wanted to see what I thought of his new car a G63, My gut told me we should take my car. Do my usual 499, upon walking out the store manager is walking in. 11/29/24 Back again for my usual 499. My guy that gave me the heads up about the IRS paperwork tells me I have some bad news for you. I'm thinking th system is down but he says I need see your DL, ask your occupation, and why am I doing so many transactions. He wrote it all down in a binder. I don't know if it's just a coincidence but the timing is strange. This store is burned. |
Manufactured spending has many nuances. Who’s the card issuer? What store is selling the card? Are they a brick-and-mortar store or online? Having the same issuer and bin number alone is no guarantee it will work if you don’t know where the card came from. You might want to expand your reading to include all of the manufactured spending forum as you will see a lot of relevant information for debit cards with serve, one, bluebird as well as the discover debit card for MCGC and vcg’s. Also make sure to check out the search tool in flyertalk’s manufacture spend, it’s a great way to get through years of sometimes off-topic subjects to help find the questions that come up as you begin your points journey.

Obviously I'm new to doing this but that doesn't mean I haven't spent days reading years of posts only to realize the only way to find out what works and what doesn't is to try it yourself. The DP sheet is inconsistent and everything I tried were transactions that have worked for other people in the past. I didn't tell them what I'm doing or why I'm doing it. The first Walmart I tried the guy obviously already knows about this. Feel free to elaborate on what specifically I should or shouldn't do and all of course take that advice but You make it seem like there's some tutorial I was supposed to follow and I didn't do it right. All I know so far is one Walmart works fine and the other doesn't.

That sounds more like their paper MSAR form (money services suspicious activity report). WM has largely replaced that with electronic SAR reporting but I don't believe their 70 action code has this capability since it isn't a money service, so a store may start filing the old paperwork once you've exceeded their comfort level. This doesn't go to the IRS but faxed to WM corporate and worst case put in a government SAR database, which really is not a big deal at your volume unless there are other (actually legitimate shady things) about your life that could get flagged for investigation. Technically you may not have completely burned the store if they let you continue in this mode - but you have to decide if it's worth the hassle. For me $499 isn't worth it but I would take the opportunity to ask if you can do more swipes/transactions in 1 trip (and thus make less trips) since they're filling out paperwork anyway on your activity.
The real risk is getting your butt banned by WM. We have an entire thread on that topic. And in this new era of facial recognition software, I can foresee that WM, who is no slouch in keeping up to date with technology, will start installing this in their stores. I see no reason to advertise your activity to a store, and if they start getting too inquisitive, to put the place on hold for a period of time. I would also add that repetitive actions attract attention and make it easier to be the subject of unwanted attention by the nosey employee. |

DM me if you like. I may take a while to answer because I’m on and off, but I do try to be helpful |
