ok great .. one more thing does Rite aid genreally allow purchasing vanilla GC with credit card (if u have name matching DL) ? Also do we get plenti points for the GC purchase at rite aid ?
No plenti points on VGCs |
One note: You don't earn Plenti points on the Vanilla visa purchases directly, but Rite-Aid does have some promos occasionally when you buy 2.
There is a promo this week to earn 800 points when you buy 2 Vanilla visas. see page 9 in the weekly ad, at least for me. |
just a data point, not sure if anybody has experienced the same issue.
Went to rite aid this morning and yesterday evening. Tried 2 different rite aids and 2 different registers at one, and 3 registers at the other. I asked to reload the serve card, I selected the Amex FREE serve reload. I swiped my serve card, they asked for how much, i then swiped my "debit card", it asks if you want cash, i say "none", it says payment approved, then it says "UNABLE TO OBTAIN BALANCE", then it freezes up the register and the manager has to come to enter his code and a receipt spits out indicating that the transaction was voided. I have made sure that the "debit card" was activated and has the correct balance. I know that the serve card was working yesterday early afternoon because I went to a different rite aid and it worked. Am I doing something wrong? Is the cashier doing something wrong? Is anybody else having a similar issue? |
Prior to my Serve getting the ax, I always noticed the same message, but I was just able to click OK on the payment terminal.

same thing happened to me, just that the money was actually debited from the card, but never made it to the Serve card.

Curious incident: I went to my RA#1 where I was able to unload ovvgc no problem a week or two ago. I swiped a smvgc/metabank after the cashier entered how much I wanted, etc. After I swiped, the terminal just read 'waiting on cashier' instead of letting me enter my PIN. I asked the cashier and he said I had to use a debit card and it was being run as credit. (This makes no sense to me).
Since that went nowhere, I went to RA#2 and tested a smaller amount with the same smvgc and it went through, prompted me for the PIN, everything fine. Has anyone experienced the first case before? Fwiw it was the same cashier who unloaded my ovvgc, he didn't seem to recognize me, but he didn't make any fuss about the vgcs themselves. |

That message occurs when your Serve card has been blocked for reloading. See that Jan 8th thread on the Serve/BB shutdowns for more details...
|
Not necessarily, I used to always get that message "balance not available cancle/OK?" after the transactions went through SUCCESSFULLY, long before the shutdowns.

Damn. This happened to me about 2 days ago at RA. I loaded one then the 2nd one gave the above message. I have not got any emails from Amex about the shut down.

Any update on your incident? Thanks |
FWIW, attempted to purchase OVGC today, told cash/debit only. I suspect it's a clerk/store specific issue, but hope I'm not the canary in the coal mine.
