I also had a cashier this past weekend claim I wasn't allowed to buy closed loop (SW and Amazon GCs for fuel rewards) since I bought $2k of open loop (she didn't take into account the fees). I might as well print out the policy posted here and leave it in my car since no one is consistent in how they enforce it.

Fact of the matter is this: you can buy lots of open loop cards (at least in DFW) as the system doesn't block it. It's all up to the cashier knowing and enforcing the policy which we have seen is never consistent.

I've also had the same results in DFW. Up to cashier discretion really. I just don't argue and go with the flow.

MOs are scrutinized more now. Questions are being asked and logs are being filled out. Not a good sign.

My Krogers have always logged MO amounts in a binder. Is that what you are referring to or something else?

Some WM's have done it for a while too. Speaking of Kroger, I was purchasing some GC's at the CS counter today and the employee selling me the GC's told the other employee that they need to take the AML course. When the other employee asked what that was, she said the Anti Money Laundering course.

It all started in the Krogers in Uptown and surroundings last year because some guys were purchasing 3 or more MO at the same time using VGC's. I was still using my Alaska BOFA Debit Card and I got asked for the card and ID many times. One day I saw a guy trying to buy several money orders and saw him pay with GC's and when asked by the lady at the customer service desk to show her the cards he panicked.

Krogers in the suburbs were easier with MO not asking for ID and Debit Card, but now they all want to see ID. I am friends with some cashiers who keep telling me that there are several guys coming to buy $5,000 worth of VGC's when the limit is $2,000. I only buy 1 VGC every time I visit Kroger and stay low profile since they know who the big buyers are.

These people that go and buy more than what is posted are the same people that will come in here and say:

"They killed this deal. Oh well, on to the next one."

They seem to be running low in my area as well. One particular store seems to sell out within a few days of stocking them. Obviously some heavy-hitters frequenting that one.

My goto Kroger have at least 50 variable VGCs. However, can't you just buy VGCs from WM? It is cheaper.

while the fee for sunnies VGCs are lower at WM, people with 5x cards won't get the high bonus they're after that's why many still flock to 'qualified' grocery stores.

WM neighborhood is coded as grocer from AMEX. You should be able to get 5X or 6X at WM neighborhood also.

I have a WM SC that's coded as grocery, but it looks like the registers are hard coded not to accept cc.

It locked up the cashier the first time I tried
