Note: this thread began as an attempt to find out if a Kroger store in the area where jan_believes was travelling might have the variable $500 Visa GC since the store where I was at the time, did not. It has morphed into a discussion about MOs (at Kroger, although other stores MAY be included but not mentioned), as well. Not the intent of the discussion. Use discretion, please. Local rules apply.

I bought 2K VGC yesterday at 711 using American Express and went to buy 2K more today. The 1K transaction was approved but 2nd 1K transaction was declined. I don't see any record of decline on Amex side. The card works at other locations. I tried other 711 for 500 VGC and it was declined also. I wonder if this limit is from 711 and not so much from the credit card. Does anyone know?

I'll have to experiment more with this in a month or two when 7-11 finishes their take over of the small chain of Tedeski stores in my area. The only time I hit 7-11 these days is on my weekly trip to Sam's Club since the closest 7-11 to me is across the street from there.

Might be a store limit as I've had days where I can't even buy one $500 VGC, but the next day I can buy three $500 VGCs without a problem. Their POS systems might be coded similar to FD in that it has a daily limit for specific transaction types and once reached it won't allow anymore until the next day.

I doubt it - seems to be a pretty firmly established corporate policy from what I can tell. They even added signs last fall (when they started taking CC for VGC again) stating you can now use CC for VGC/MGC/AGC. It's not like I'm giving out details for a store that will sell MO with CC (and no I don't know of any haha).

It all depends on the store how their receipts are printed. I've been to a tourist town and found a unicorn store that allowed CCs for WUMOs. We were there a couple of days so I tried a small amount first using a 5% card for grocery stores. I deposited MO to a shared branch CU across the street. Two days later, it posted as purchase on my card so I went back for more and DH bought some, too. I was pleasantly surprised that payment mode wasn't based on cashier on duty, it was apparently store policy On our next trip, policy has changed although they still take DCs and cash. From then on, I check grocery stores to try my luck.

I'm not sure if this is a regional thing or nationwide but the Whole foods around me, mostly in Dallas, no longer sell $500 VGCs. I think they sell $100 or maybe even $200. Anyone else have DPs on this? If it's similar in other parts of the country then maybe the WIKI needs to be updated.
