Packaging is apparently not a reliable indicator of what works and what doesn't -- you won't know for sure until you open the package and see if it's an 18 (bad) or 35 (good).

Yeah, everyone, please do not do that. Damaging merchandise is even worse for us than hiding merchandise. Buy only what you're able to deal with if the PINs don't work.

The ability to liquidate may be slowly being clamped. Visited two Rite-Aids yesterday to buy MOs. The first, from which I had never bought MOs before, said corporate has instituted a cash-only MO policy. The CSR at the other RA, from where I had bought MOs about two weeks ago, said it was now cash-only too.

And not to be paranoid or have visions of grandeur, but right after I hit my go-to WMT for more GC-cash-out MCs than usual, the money center was closed for several days for a "software upgrade." Since it reopened, US Bank MC GCs, with which I had bought MOs there in the past, on two of three visits could not be used to buy MOs. I tried to use the cancel-button trick, as usual. Weird that it worked on one of those three visits, though.

Visited a different WMT today to try to liquidate US Bank MCs. Was able to swipe a pair of US MCs to buy an MO after about four tries. But all of my other attempts -- about eight total -- failed. Anyone else not able or finding it hard to buy MOs at WMT with the US MCs?

I'm having the same problem. Bought mine from Staples in $200 denominations. Called to set pin and after visiting a few walmart registers and the money center, nothing worked.

Most of the VGCs have a small pic of a card on the front of the pkg, some show a pic of the old card with ' gift' being small. others with 'gift' being very large. Have you purchased a GC where the card itself did not end up looking like the pic of it on the pkg?

then some of the new holiday pkging doesnt have a pic but the fee is $5.95 instead of $4.95. So no reason to get those even if its the old cards

No, but I've had cards that were IDENTICAL in appearance except for the fact that one had the 35 (and worked) and one had the 18 (and didn't work).

I figure it will be Christmaas before the new cards make it to where I live as it took them until August to advise us that as of April 1st, we could get PINs on sales receipts, but wanted to say thanks for sharing gloreglabert.

Thanks for the heads up, back to the drawing board for me

side note; some 7s where I never had a problem in the past now are ca$h only, all 3 were sort of in the same NJ town.I swiped its says 'approved' then it automatically reverses the whole transaction  sitting in very bad traffic (bad accident closed 2 of 3 lanes) I decided to take the long but at least moving way to my destination.I ended up passing another 7 where it worked in the past, and still does :D

But the walls seem to be moving closer and closer together and its anyones guess how much longer things will be active on all fronts

On my fourth WMT today, the US MCs worked. They don't seem to work on the old credit card terminals anymore (on which you could use the split-second cancel trick), at least not on the two WMTs with old CC terminals near me. Based on what someone else wrote and the success I finally had at a WMT with new CC terminals, here's what may be the key: After you've swiped your card and changed the payment method onscreen to debit, the CSR apparently has to input the sum on his keypad -- NOT his touchscreen. When he did this, all five of my MOs processed beautifully.

when will the money come back

I went to Walmart today to load my BB with a Metabank Visa GC.

I thought all you had to do was punch in the last 4 digit but it did not work.

It gave me an error stating payment alternate something.

So i called the number on the back and then set up the pin number.

I tried using it again for loading my BB but it gave me again error stating payment alternate something.

I called the number on the back and the money was missing. I spoke to a representative and she said it will reappear in 10 days.

1- is this true that it will come back on and
2- will it take 10 days to reappear?

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Maybe I will visit ALDI tomorrow to create the case :-)

OK. That's what I did. Visited ALDI that takes only debit cards. Attempted purchase with the 18 series vgc. Entered pin (as last four; I know it's random, set on the first use), transaction declined.

Case for return created.

Great catch, I had same experience - 18 (bad) or 35 (good), irrespective of source or amount on the Vanilla Visa. Only place to liquidate 18 series is AP or TGT.

I just got a Vanilla gift card (Variable) that looks like the "old" image posted earlier, but it starts 4315 rather than 4847. Will try it at WM soon, but any knowledge of these? I suspect it is old because the package didn't mention a PIN.

$200 vanilla visa purchased from walmart.com did not work at either the kiosk or cashier (two different walmarts). Going to liquidate via AP and move on.
