Kate will only allow load totals up to $1999.99 every 10 minutes. It does not matter if it was you or the person before you. If you go over that limit, Kate will freeze. Sept 2015- Several people have reported the 10 minute limit is now longer than 10. Not sure how much longer yet. Several Kate's have locked up following the old 10 minute rule.

9 digit pin problem - Sometimes, for unknown reasons, after you swipe your card and enter your pin, MCE will ask you for a 9 digit pin. To date, no one knows why this happens, or has a fix for it. If it repeatedly asks you for a pin, this is the same as the 9 digit pin problem and there is no fix.
Unplugging and re-booting by a supervisor doesn't fix this problem.

For consistent MCE issues, use the WM feedback link to report:
https://corporate.walmart.com/contac...orate-feedback
Select 'store experience' and be sure to include the store number and address. If you include your name and phone number the stores sometimes call when it is working again. Do not abuse this as it may lead to your MCE being removed.

How to shut Kate up by sosamo
  1. Before you press anything, plug the headphones into the jack near the pinpad
  2. The touchscreen will "gray" out, and you won't be able to press anything.
  3. Press '3' on the pinpad
  4. Press 'Enter' on the pinpad
  5. Continue business as usual on the touch screen.

Note: If you ever make a mistake, to get out, just unplug the headphone.

problems today

Tried 4 times this morning and got "Debit not Approved Call Authorizer" on metabank cards (ones that can get from Tom Thumb/Safeway/Albertson's that have the gowallet branding).

Tried 2 different BBs and 2 different debit cards and same result. Verified the cards are active afterwards. Have done these many many times before, and confirmed on both BBs, had not reached the maximum loads at all for Feb.

Hopefully this is related to a system issue that others are experiencing (that will be back fixed soon), but it was a slightly different code than what was mentioned here becuase it didn't specify a timeout issue.

I should have at least tried a small transaction from my bank's debit card, but was surprised at the problem didn't think about that in the store.

Please update if anyone else is still having problems, what your trying to load, and if a token load from a "real" card also didn't go either.

EDIT TO ADD: last ones of these cards I tried was almost exaclty a month ago for what it's worth, and in DFW area

Tried loading today at the kiosk and it didn't work (or I couldn't figure it out). I tried last week and got an error but today it asked for 9 digit pin after I entered my 4 digit pin#. Tried a 500 gift card from Ralphs and tried a 200 gift card from staples with the same result. No clue what to enter for the 9 digit pin#.

Dude, read the Wiki on this thread. It's the screen of death that randomly kills Kates.

Back on topic: please reports back on experiences on working Kates to determine if anything has changed the last few days with all the recent problems.

Cancer. No cure so far. Or before AMEX kills all the prepaid GC/CC loading all together.

This is a Amex system wide problem for BB/Serve/Red. Some suggest not loading for the next 24 hours while they fix the problem.

You know, if you really wanted to test whether it is a system problem, or anti GC/PP loading, you could do small loads from, you know, a real debit card.

It is a system wide problem. Someone posted in a bb/rb/serve thread that even cash loads arent working.

crisis averted

Went to same Kate today with same cards I had trouble with yesterday PLUS some other different branded VGC. She was good and fed all the birds this morning.

Hopefully, back to normal for all as well.

I do not think that Visa Gift Cards sold in supermarkets and issued by Metabank are going to be shut down. On the Kate I use it has a sign on the bottom saying powered by Metabank. Why would metabank shut down their own cards when they make money on the float on the gift cards (time between purchase of gift card and unloaded to bluebird). The only people who lose money on these transactions are the credit card companies who offer the 5% or points for air miles. JMOH

Your analysis is a bit off. I don't know whether a shutdown is coming, but I think you're neglecting some stuff:

Costs = Commission to supermarket + Cost of making the card

Revenue = Float + Swipe fees + Leftover balances on card

With an instant $500 single debit swipe, the revenue may be too low.
