The license scan has been in place since at least this summer.

There's now a prompt about fraud after the 1st vgc on the signature pad, one needs to accept to continue.

When did CVS stop selling the OV/Vanilla MCGCs? Just curious. I know at one point they sold them.

I re-loaded a PPMC card last weekend and still saw a bunch of OV/OVMC at my CVS so I'm sure my go-to hasn't stopped selling them. I'm not sure whether they're just depleting these stocks but as of now, the GC racks are still full of these.

They seem to have disappeared in my area as well. Last week there were racks full of them at multiple CVS locations. This week they've all been replaced with VVGCs.

The confusion is the lowered limit. If I recall correctly you used to be able to buy a single $500 VGC and no license scan would be required. I always bought at least 2 cards, as I feel more comfortable with them checking. I recall being surprised this year when they scanned for a single card.

IME, at least for the past two years, purchase of GCs = or >$300 prompts for ID scan so even if I'm just buying one OV and load it with $500, the cashier asks for my DL.

If I have an old, dirty, very used cvs physical gift card with $78.32 on it, can I use that to purchase a brand new $25 CVS physical gift card in store to give as a present?

Register system won't allow it.

I don't think there's a recent SW update but CVS registers do not allow CVSgc to be used for buying another GC, whether it's CVS or a third party GC.

Bought a gift card today and I was no asked for ID.

Alcibiades Nov 26, 2016 5:52 pm

Of what value?

AlohaDaveKennedy Nov 27, 2016 7:28 am

The last information obtained says $300 or less requires no ID. Was your purchase a Visa or MC over $300?
