I stopped off at the local CVS to pick up a few OV's when I got to the register the screen flashed something after the 1st one, the clerk said "I can't sell you this one". She went for a 2nd card and it did that flash again, some text on the screen that I couldn't see. She asked for a supervisor to come over, she looked at the screen and said we have to pull all the cards. My heart sank! I walked out empty handed.....

I drove to another CVS on my way home and did get to purchase 2 cards there.

Anyone know what was the deal at that 1st stop?

You should have asked them to scan your license. They get some weird sounding message after the first one that doesn't make clear what they need to do and a lot of the cashiers don't know what they need to do.

Hi guys, I haven't purchased gc from CVS lately. but I have been reading this thread. From what I read, is it true that the vanilla gc doesn't activate right away like they use to? So I can't liquidated in less an hour like I used to.

I bought vanilla gc's a few days ago and bought money orders with them about 15 mins later.

What is the best debit VGC to purchase @ CVS to load serve?

shoppergirl Jul 24, 2014 9:28 pm

I've been using cc's to purchase pp cash cards and ovc's. I haven't had any problems. Tonight I was out of town, stopped by to purchase the usual, and there was a big sign saying "Cash only for all gift cards." I'm going to stop by my usual stores tomorrow to purchase a few cards. Hopefully, it's not a new regional policy.

Don't think Visa GCs are available at CVS Vanilla GCs are available at CVS but can't be used to load SERVE. The Vanilla cards can be used for MOs.

Not true... Vanilla GCs can be used to load serve. Just not at Walmart.

I forgot that OVs can be used to load SERVE at FD. Any other way?

I went to two FDs to load SERVE with OV and for me the hassle was too great. Too many people in line and untrained checkers. There are some stories in the SERVE thread about funds ending up in limbo when loading SERVE at FD.

I still buy OVs at CVS on occasion but buy MOs with them at FL.

I think that OV might be the best option because it looks the closest to a real debit card. I haven't tried FD, but I may this week.

What kind of hassle are they giving you? Because if it's debit, they don't need to see the card. (Except for WM, they ask to see my card now:(, so I just use Kate).

You said something about MO. Are you buying OV, then using it to buy MO at CVS?

Can't use vanilla cards at WM. Check the SERVE thread for problems loading at FD.

I buy MOs at FL for $0.46 per $500.

Thanks. I just mean WM now check the card I am using when I try to load at the cashier. So I skip all that headaches, and use Kate.

FL, is that an east coast Supermarket?

You can't use vanilla cards at Kate either. FL = Food Lion.

Haha. Thanks. I mean before when Vanilla used to work, and now with Meta gc. I just go straight to Kate.

I haven't found a supermarket in So Cal that will sell MO with debit so far.

Almost made me cry

Today I had to go to CVS to pick up some medicine for my wife. Just glanced at the GC rack and saw about 200 or more VR cards just sitting there asking to be bought. So sad to see those previously coveted cards go wanting.
