I had the same issue 3 days in a row with the cards I bought from Office Max. I believe that take some time to activate. If I go back the next day or even later that day, they are fine.

Must be isolated to office max because I was able to use my 1k Amex gift card

FYI: finally one of my cards showed error when i tried to register it online (ZIP), receipt said "activated" but it wasnt. I called 800 #, had to give info off of card , receipt and packaging. The good thing is that I had the foresight of keeping everything from the purchase. I also had to email them my ID and copy of receipt. They said it would take 3 bus days to resolve issue.
Two things: 1; extremely important to keep all receipts and packaging when purchasing these cards bc despite having no issues with these in the past this one popped up even tho it did say on the receipt card was "activated" 2; the number on the receipt where it says card is activated is not the last 4 of the card, these are the last 4 of the packaging. just fyi. The will need that 16 digit number to fix the issue. |
FYI. Went to three Kate's in Indy and usually I let them scan my id and then I tell them the las 4 on my AGC. Today, the first two cashiers, right at the end of the transaction said "you couldn't buy a gift card with a gift card". I asked them if that was a recent policy, and said yes. Went to a 3rd one, and had success with what it looked like a newbie Kate's worker. Any other ways to unload AGC?

I had to send in all of the items you mentioned plus a scan of the card themselves too. The cards were showing active again as of late last night so it only took one business day as the I filed the claim on Friday evening. I will spend them today. I hope yours gets resolved as fast. |

However, you should read the back months on this CVS thread. This is old news. It's been YMMV with CVS cashier's accepting Amex GCs for a while. That's why many people who buy them online get them personalized (i.e. with their names on them.) For the ones you buy in store, you just have to move around until you find a cashier that will accept them. I've come to learn the cashiers at my local stores that don't care and those that do. Then the rest, you just try. If they say no, you thank them and move on. |
