I haven't tried this in a while, but have another round of CC apps to do and want to make sure I can meet all the spends...

1) You can still pay rent with BB

2) Some days you can load OVs to Bb, some days you can't. Plan on coming back until it works. If you are so far away that return visits are out of the question, don't plan on using OVs at Kate.

3) When Kate is working, which lately is 2 days out of 3, you can also get MOs at WM, which you could use to pay your rent.

I assume your are reading these, but if not, you should be:

Spoke to the store mgr at my local CVS today. He said he had seen something regarding new limits on GCs coming up, but thought (like I did) that it wasn't in effect yet and went to ring up 5K in GCs. The POS (that's "point-of-sale" for those who think I'm saying something else) put a hard break after the first 2K just like it used to when you reached 5K. The manager was a bit confused because it wouldn't enable him to ring up any more GCs but displayed something about having reached the 5K daily limit. So apparently it has been hard coded into CVS POS systems already.

In a side conversation with him, apparently any government issued ID will work to buy GCs. The systems ARE centralized so using the same ID at another store location will not enable one to buy more than 2K in a 24 period. Passports, green cards, etc. will work as ID. No confirmation yet if that will solve the trick for some of us that have more than one CVS in town.

Was just about to say I confirmed in LAX as well. It looked good in the beginning since he didn't ask for my ID after scanning the first card so I thought I was in the clear. However when he scanned the 5th card, he had that puzzled look like "......$5K?...how can that be?" as he clearly counted just 4 cards. I reassured him that I knew what was going on. Employee is pretty lax about everything and never had any problems from buying from him in the past.

Just looks like more trips to CVS instead of spacing them out.

I can confirm the 2k limit in the Phoenix metro area.

us1549 Oct 21, 2014 10:42 pm

I hope this hasn't already been covered, but 3 out of the 4 stores I visited insisted on cash only for OVs', even thought CVS policy clearly states otherwise. The MOD kept stating the incorrect information. I really wished there was some consistency on what the rules were.

Am I being unreasonable here?

I saw the 5k limit reached thing spit out even though the system stopped me at 2k (plus fees added of course) as well. I'm sure that's an easy IT fix. Clerk did not know it would come out so soon.

A friend in another state said that his store now ID scans you at anything over $300 so they can stop people from going to one more store to squeeze one card in. So he brings his wife now.

As for the ID thing, in my area and in others, CVS seems to go by something else because back in May they stopped allowing dif IDs. I would use my license at one CVS and then my passport ID at another. It worked until April and then knew I had already bought.

Not to scare anyone but Office Depot started to ramp down with their willingness to sell large quantity to a CC and in time they went cash only. I predict CVS will eventually do the same. It's only a matter of time now.

So sad. CVS started 5k per calendar day, then 5k for 24 hours period. Now, 2k for 24 hours period :(

This coupled with the Old Blue smackdown bans has made this a very bad week for some people.

Understood. To clarify, I'm not asking when the new limits are rolling out. I'm asking if the CVS computers are tied together across multiple stores / regions / chain-wide to police the "$x per day per DL" limits. We can't know for sure what the future behavior will be with the $2k/day limit, but we can draw strong inferences based upon the previous/existing $5k day limit.

Basically you want to know if the CVS registers are hard coded for the new limits. I would assume they are.

Actually CVS started with $1K/day with no ID scan and then bumped it to $5K/day with $1K/DL scan and now back down to $2K/day with $300/DL scan.

Yes the CVS computers are tied together nationwide so the $2K/day limit is not just for that CVS store. Going to multiple CVS stores or hell even go to an out of state CVS will do nothing for you. Its also a rolling 24 hour period so if you buy at 3 PM one day, you will have to wait until 3 PM or later the next day.

The $5K/day limit was a rolling 24 hour period so I would not expect any less.

Thanks Marathonman. Still don't see how one store vs. another would be able to know you are using a different ID between stores. Wife tested it today by using her green card at one store and she bought the daily limit. Then went down the street and used her DL to buy another batch. So I guess as one is not actually switching IDs at the same store you can hit different stores to double dip.

Doesn't much matter though at this point because OBCs are getting axed and min spend on bonus offers is child's play for most of us.

OBCs

Is that Original Broadway Cast? Or maybe Online Booty Call? :p

Man the $300 sucks. I have 20 CVS within like 15 miles. I used to get like 1 $500 from each of them on a Saturday
