I can add another report that I visited my CVS yesterday that is always stocked and there wasn't a single reload.

many also dont have any of the MVD temp cards either, but do have rows of Serve cards. Although VRs can be loaded to Serve they can do it at the reg just the same. Hope this isnt a shift on CVs part to push Serve and laoding at their registers

Where?

My home base isn't dry, but it is steadily depleting. I have noticed that the only ones left are the old style "Scratch Pin" backs. I had always purchased the squigilly line backs for additional security, and apparently my competition has adopted the same method.

It will be interesting to see how fast they restock after the well runs dry. For now I've got store B and C that haven't let me down yet, but I haven't had to go to them for a while... hope they are still abundant.

if I catch the scam hiding VRs in my area, the scam will regret it.

You know who you are.

Do you guys put $500 on each VR or a little less? Today I tried getting TWO for $500 each and the second one couldn't be done. This is the second time it happened this week. The cashier tried to make it 2 transactions but the second one got a "Alternate form of payment required." What's odd is I didn't get any texts or alerts from Chase.

I did $5K CVS yesterday afternoon in one order. But today it told me I was over $5K when I purchased only $2500.

Today, I went to a different CVS. Did $500 in one order (no dl scan). Then did a $1K order, another $1K order, and when I tried to do the next the CVS system said I had already done $5K that day? Clerk said I must have went to a different CVS earlier that day, but I didn't. I went straight from home to the CVS and it ended up letting me buy just $2500. She showed me on the screen where it said customer has exceeded $5000 order.

Any idea what is going on here? It was also about 25 hours since I bought the others, so this isn't a 24 hour issue. I thought maybe she typed 5000 instead of 500 and that would cause it to go over, but the sign screen said $500 as I recall with a $3.95 fee that I could not go through with because they said I was over $5K.

I didn't cause a scene by it or argue other than to tell them, there is now way I am over $5K that day because I came straight from home and they could see they sold me only $2500. I told them beggars can't be choosers and thanked them for the $2500.

I was using AGC for the two $1K orders and attempted next order if that makes any difference.

Edit: I am wondering if the issue was trying to do more than two DL scan orders the same day, and it just gives the wrong message? I was doing separate orders because I didn't want the system to halt on some issue and leave me with a bunch of Amex with preauths on them. Perhaps one $5K order spread across 4 or 5 cards would have been fine?

I've never had a problem finding VR's in AZ but the well has run dry in the past week or so. I went to 5 stores in the area in the past few days and they were all out. This is the first time I've ever encountered trouble finding VR's here. Hopefully some deliveries arrive soon, I've got 10k to spend on the AA Exec Card.

Just bought my first two VR cards at CVS today. The casher took the chase united explorer card with no problem. Will try to use discover tomorrow.

Went to a local CVS store and started with a purchase of two VR cards ($1K total) on 2/5/14 at my local CVS. Used my Chase United MileagePlus Select Visa card and they had to call in for authorization, an embarrassing arcane procedure that can take up to 10 minutes to resolve. The CVS manager had to provide merchant info and drivers license number, then he turned over the phone to me, and I had to provide several pieces of personal information, like DOB, last 4 digits of SSN, and mother's maiden name. This is for a card I have owned for several years and have previously used to purchase VR cards! Of course, Chase gave the CVS manager an authorization code after this was finished and my purchase went through.

I then purchased 2 more VRs (another $1K) on my Amex card there without any issues. Interestingly, the manager first said he thought the daily limit was $1,500, but he didn't know for sure. I told him it was $5,000, but he said it DEFINITELY was not that high, but maybe $2,000 or $2,500 was the limit. Anyway, he said that the cash register automatically enforces the limit, so whatever it was would be determined by the system connected to the cash registers. So the limit is AT LEAST $2K. MY D/L was scanned for both purchases.

I have yet to have Amex require a call in for authorization of my purchases of VR cards since I began MS in 2012. Maybe it's because I have been a cardmember since 1979 and have had only a couple of fraudulent purchases in those 35 years. Barclays did it once, but the card was brand new, and this was my second purchase on it. Chase previously did it on a $1,000 purchase using the IHG Rewards Visa card at a SuperAmerica gas station, but I told the clerk I would just use a different card (Amex), which sailed right through.

After I cleared the fraud alert on the IHG Rewards Visa card, I told Chase I would be making frequent large purchases of about $1,000 again and not to put another fraud alert on that card or I would close my account. True to their word (or maybe I was just lucky), Chase has never since required a call-in verification or issued a fraud alert on any purchase on my IHG Rewards Visa card.

Same with the last CVS store I visited. Oddly, all they had were the old "easy peel off with a blade silver labels" without any text running across the strip onto the card itself. Sounds like the CVS warehouses might be cleaning out all of their old stock and won't be sending any new cards to the stores. I sure hope I'm 100% wrong, though!

Any other DFWer's out there?

Dry too. Been checking Irving/Grapevine/Coppel/Dallas. One card here and there only.

Yup, all gone for me too. Stores told me they have been ordering them but they have not been coming in on the truck.

I am in the area and my local store has always had them. I was there today and saw some, although I did not check on how many. I know down in Houston, via a friend, their store got a shipment on sometime this weekend, a big one.

craz Feb 17, 2014 4:38 pm

went to my standby store today turned the circular rack and bingo my eyes poped out 3 rows completely full of beans. will be back there again tomorrow
