A new thread was created for the new year in 2017. This is the old thread. For the 2017 on this topic, go here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1819562-cvs-master-thread-2017-a.html
CVS is cash only for all Incomm-related reloads and reloadable cards, including Vanilla Reloads and Serve swipe reloads. See memo to stores for complete list. Other cards at CVS can still be bought using credit, but YMMV depending on location, Manager, etc.
New limits rolling out starting 10/20:
Transactions with $300 or more of card face value require ID.
Limit $2000 of card face value per 24 hour rolling period.
Limit of 10 cards per 24 hours.
Cashback posted in 48 hours.
Cash Register Freezing
Multiple reports that the CVS cash register will freeze and lock after scanning the ID when purchasing multiple prepaid cards. Then the register's computer needs to be restarted. Some report that "swiping" the ID instead of "scanning" will avoid the issue.
Limit of 7 tenders (swipes) per transaction. This is most commonly run into when using low-value AGCs. After seven, the transaction must be complete, no cash (or any other payment method) will be accepted to pay the balance.

[QUOTE=neworleans flyer;22338891]Broke my cherry and did my very first VR purchase today after receiving my BB card in the mail yesterday. I live in nola and have 2 CVS's in my area, first one was dry but the clerk was very helpful and told me they replenish on Thursdays. The second one I struck gold (er, white)! I bought the 3 that they had, put $500 each on them and with a single transaction - paid $1511.85 and walked on out. Scanned my DL but other than that no issues with having to pre-notify or call my cc company (I used my Chase M/C) and was out the door in minutes.

Anyone in the South Bay area know a good place with more ice cream? I had 6 locations in January, and all are empty today. ...!!!!
Edit: or should I be asking all the employees since it sounds like some are kept behind the register?

Its very simple, many people actually do pay with ca$h and have no idea what MSing is. No different then I see people at gas stations that charge the same for credit or cash paying in cash. Or supermarkets where folks run up a large bill and then yep pay in cash, etc etc.
those paying for VRs with ca$h just happens to be the targeted audience that the VR folks are after, since they most probably dont have a CC or bank acct. We are not a part of the targeted audience and if anything are the nightmare to these companys.

These cards were designed to eliminate the check cashing places, payday loans, etc. Kind of like how the big corporations went into vegas, same with the bigger banks now entering the prepaid space. Better deal for the customers, healthy profits for the banks.

are you referring to South San Francisco Bay Area? I think there's a lot of competition for the cards here. The locations that I go to are restocked regularly. however the supply is usually depleted within a couple of days. It took awhile to figure out when they restocked.

I think I would have OD'd today on said addiction if there weren't daily limits!!! I went by a CVS that's right by my job out in rural Louisiana on a whim and OMG, my eyes nearly popped out of my head. Kept my wits about me and decided to just test the waters and bought $2k worth. Transaction went through smoothly (after DL scan) and the cashier sweetly remarked how "I have never seen anyone put this much on one of these before". Said something about paying my employees instead of cash as per their request - needless to say, she will be seeing me quite often from hereon out ^

I'm in the city on the weekends as my gf lives there, but I'm told all the CVS are out of VRs or don't take CCs by my friends up there, so I never bother to try up there.
