Walked into 1 I havent before, had a few other items to p/u and at the reg she pointed to a sign I missed GCs are Ca$h only. So I left drove < 5mins and walked out with everything from a different store. Some still impose a $1k limit others only 1 CC can be tendered any given day. = they are still doing what they want to besides what Corp policy is.Best not to fight it and simply move onto the next store Remember the type of people who we are dealing with not sure if those at WM or CV has the higher IQ, they probably match out at 20. These folks fear for their jobs and need them so they will toe whatever line their mgr told them to. To an extent I dont blame them and probably would do as they do if I was in their situation,TG Im not. |
I have 6 stores around me the only thing in common is the DL scan at 1k, some stores have the 1k limit some have the 5k limit and some with the 1k ignore it at times and sell me more, i don't try to figure it out any more.
A slightly more concerning note is the sudden drop off of availability of VR's since last week like others are seeing --5/6 always had a plenty on the shelves, 4 have been dry the past 10 days, 2 have a dwindling stock which has not been replenished. 1 guy told me they did not get their normal delivery the previous week due to the Labor day holiday, hope he is right, they all are getting shipments on Friday. |
I have also noticed a decrease in availability of VRs. This could be due to the new limit and making it easier to purchase more at one time.

I have had plenty of success with buying VRs at CVS. I haven't had any issues mentioned here yet. I purchase in GA, VA, & MD.

Funny thing happened on the way to the forum.:D
I was at CVS which had beans, came in with my SO. I gave her 2 beans and instructed her what to do and how to pay. I got my 2 beans and went to the different cashier. For me, no problems at all. For my SO the cashier called the manager. The manager came in and told her "cash only". I have decided to try the KYBOSH approach and started to talk to him, reasonably. I told him he had violated the corporate policy and asked him to call the corporate HQs and clear it out. Maybe I was not as nice as KYBOSH, but he refused. I told him I have bought the very same beans from the different CVS stores and there was never a problem paying for them w/CCs. Which is true, BTW. He responded that those stores were breaking the corporate policy. He went away. While we had this conversation, the cashier, who called him in, had approved the VRs for my SO :D All it took for the cashier was to hit the "Ignore" button on her screen. |

Their IQ has nothing to do with listening to their management and general self preservation. Would you go against your local managements policy if it just happened to be more restrictive than that of your company's policy? If so do you really think you wouldn't deserve to be fired?
The younger kids just dont know what to do and start to make things up, it ends with me saying why not simply page your mgr and they will confirm its 100% OK, which usually they arent too keen on doing as they dont want to come across as not knowing what to do. It happens when you use more then 1 CC. A mgr never told me it cant be done but simply tells them as long as hes not wanting to purchase over the max limit whats the problem It really comes down to they dont want to be the one who makes the decission and ends up being held accountable.Alot easier to get another employee or mgr to OK it. btw its not only with VRs or GCs its almost ask them anything and youd get some weird response, unlike the old timers |
So I'm continuing to have decent luck with VRs outside of the city proper.
Hit up one around the corner from my co-worker today. Purchased $1K with no issues. The cashier was cool said something like "I have another guy comes in and buys these all the time" when I asked him about the daily limit. He looked puzzled and said "Yeah...I think they raised it..." and went searching through some papers but couldn't find anything. He said he would call the manager, which he did but the manager apparently told him only $1k. So, he asks me "Do you want me to ring them up together or separate? If I do it separate you won't have to give me ID." I was a little surprised he asked me this, but I said "Whatever's easier for you - I don't mind giving you my ID." He said "We'll just do it separate, its easier that way." So, I go back after work and do another $1K with a different cashier. He does them together with an ID scan. I then ask him about limits and he also seems to think that they were raised to $1500. He then says "My supervisor is over in aisle 10, you can ask her." So I go over and ask her if there is a daily limit - she heads over to the desk also muttering something about the limits being raised, shuffles some papers, can't seem to find anything. Meanwhile, the cashier is calling the manager. I could *swear* I hear him say back to the manager "$5000" and also to the supervisor (as if echoing back what the manager is telling them). He hangs up the phone and I say "So is it $5000 then?" The two of them seem to exchange a tentative look and the supervisor says with some hesitation "The limit on these cards is...um...$2000." I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, so I go grab another $1K and ring out with another ID scan no issue. That's 7K for me this week so far...I hope my luck holds out - I just wish these CVS were closer to me. |

We will have to simply disagree. I dont recall going thru it all with the older aged employees. If anything they will ask to see my DL to make sure the CC is mine.

Why would they? They just want to do their job. If they don't know something they ask. You seem to be contradicting your self by both saying this and saying that they refuse to ask their manager. Anyway whatever works for you.... |
I tried to purchase my very first VR at a CVS in Sterling, VA and was told it is cash only. Promptly put it back on the rack and walked out.

Different cashiers, different manager, different attitude. |

I was trying to say there are those who ask and those who simply will make up some dumb excuse. From those who ask, Ive actually had a couple that each time will ask again, and dont really want to deal with the #s involved |
And then there is the manager at my store, who apparently doesn't fit in either model. Only store for me, 45 minute drive each way, so I bring along the spouse last weekend. I get cash only, but this manager will take debit. I turn around to give my spouse debit card thinking I drove a long way for some really expensive pesos, when she allows my spouse to buy with CC, who then gloats all the way home.

Very funny comment!!
"Incomm isn't going to send your picture to all the CVS' in your area telling them to look out for you. They are not going to create a joint Incomm/CVS taskforce and share intel on who's doing what. No way. LOL[/QUOTE]"
