I found cvs seems to be unable to scan those us passport id cards for this. So its a good thing I know how to drive a car!

I feel you on the respect think but people are people and you have you respect (and work within) their limited understanding of what you are doing. To any reasonable person, buying these products (which in all honesty are intended for the poor and unbanked) and loading thousands on them everyday does not compute. In fact, if there was no such thing as churning (something that only a VERY few ppl know about) then the next logical answer is some sort of fraud.

When you hear galloping outside your window you don't think Zebra... you think Horse. Churners are the Zebras... CC fraudsters are horses. Horses are a hell of a lot common that zebras. Just about everyone has seen a horse ... how many of you have seen a zebra galloping around?

So for this I give them 'a little' slack. We can rage against the machine and human nature or we can try to establish ourselves as benign and not a threat in order to facilitate the ease of future transactions (if the employees and management are willing to have an open mind).

No offense implied or intended.
Peaches was eating a peach, Sweety was a nice sweet lady, and Latina was proud latina.
Take a breath. Respectfully.

That being said, if the story offended anyone or thought the story could offend someone else... you/they have my apologies.

Are these arguments necessary? A couple already concluded. What YOU think a lot doesn't matter. What CVS thinks is.

If selling VRs cause troubles, they pull it off the shelf as I reported earlier.

Sorry guys I dont blame CVS or any other store. Its not due to 9/11 but its due to people making up fake CCs with real names and #s that was swiped off a good CC and then going and buying whatever (best is any cash equivalent since they end up with it all rather then fencing the goods). Then the store gets a charge back since they accepted the CC w/o making sure it belongs to that person re check a pic ID

Data pt in So Cali if you use a CC to buy a stick of gum you must show a DL or Pic ID.Thats how bad it is out there, and why alot of stores when it comes to cash equivalents wont sell them by CC but ca$h only. Even DLs can be fake, = theyre out everything. Near my bro (in a very good area) they dont even stock VRs or most GCs, they had way too much lossess due to fraud and fake CCs and DLs

where are VRs

ALL the CVSs around me don't have VRs the last couple of days. Is something up? Like 6/8 ALWAYS have and now not a single one. Is there something going on?

You know... I think there is something going on...
Someone mentioned that a GC rep comes by and restocks the racks ever so often but VRs are not one of the products they handle. The reloads are delivered on the weekly truck. And if what the managers say is to be believed, they cannot order more manually.

That being said, I 'think' stores that have heavy churn activity is having their supply cut by someone higher up. Which is REALLY strange because in the stores that do have them they have now been placed prominently on the rack on the counter right next to the cash register. I have noticed this in 2 or 3 locations... weird.

That is what happens when the store has a problem with people taking the cards off the rack and building a stockpile at home. One of my stores had them on the main gift card rack but then the rack was always out of stock. They quit putting them on the rack and started keeping them on the counter pegs next to the cash register. The cards were always in-stock after that. So I wish all stores kept them behind the counter and by the cash register. It prevents people from filling their pockets at the rack and walking out with them.

Some stores keep it behind the cash counter, I carry a used card, show that and ask for it......I have also noticed no one at cvs ask cash only recently.

She's been brought aboard for our weekly Charlie Victor run, and she has been getting quite frustrated because our Fidelity AMEX is ALWAYS declined at Charlie's. Usually they call long after we've used a 1.25% safety card and left the store without making a scene. No matter how many times we tell them that we will be making large purchases at Charlie's on a regular basis (no reason given or asked for), the transactions are still declined.

We were told once that their algorithms will learn our spending. To contradict this, yesterday we were told by the Fidelity AMEX people that they've experienced a large amount of fraud from Charlie's, so it's unlikely that we would be able to make large purchases there in the future.

The Fido card is the only one I have trouble with at CVS. Frustrating.

Same here. My top 5 CVS stores have none. I have 2 more stores near me to try. They are a little annoying to get to (no parking etc) so if there are any more to be had in the area, I assume they will have them.

My normal CVS had a shockingly small number of beans. Since I'm cool with everyone that works in there, I chatted them up. Here's what I found out:

1. The ID scan is meant to prevent fraud from stolen credit cards and to ensure that you aren't buying more than 5k and funding terrorists.

2. For some reason, folks have been coming in to buy more of them recently. Has BB or VR been in the news?

3. I found out when the truck comes in.

4. I saw someone buying some beans for 498 each with an SPG. I started to ask for his Flyertalk or Fatwallet name, but I decided against it.

5. I'm going to have to go to the CVS in my part of town. I'm sure they will have plenty.

BTW, I'm in Middle TN.

JEStarr Sep 9, 2013 4:42 pm

What's the significance of loading $498? To avoid an ID scan?

smitty06 Sep 9, 2013 4:48 pm

OK, went to the "annoying to get to CVS" and they had VR's. All is right in the world.
