Cash advance this morning. Locked out of internet and phone access this afternoon. Is that a record - one single VR load and unload?

Ha! Amazing!

What is the balance on the card right now? Any fees charged?

If your card was drained to zero it might be auto closure. Otherwise it may just be the standard 'send in your ID' stuff and your account may still be alive but on hold. When this happens you lose both online and phone. When in spend-down you just lose online.
When it is truly closed you obviously lose both.

I haven't been following this thread closely, but something happened that others can tell me if it is normal or not. Card A I was told was in spend down mode about 5 months ago. I cash advanced it out. I cash advanced card B at the same time, lost online access, and assumed that card was done too. I was without online access for at least 3 months.

Today I checked, and I was able to sign onto card A+B. Both had tiny negative balance reported but were labeled "active". I successfully loaded $500 onto B, and it shows up as 499...

But then I tried to log onto C, and I couldn't log on to that one! I've done very little on C...loaded maybe $6000, took it down from ATM to 0 over several months, and built it back up to $4000? I had no online access, but I was able to load a $500. Just called in, was told to stop loading and unloading but card was reactivated.

Well, I have no way of checking. But I loaded $500 and CAed $499. My bank doesn't charge a fee and I believe the MVD fee for a signature transaction is $0.50. So I would guess the balance is 50c, but I have no way of knowing.

When I couldn't log in I hit the "Forgot password" button, since the message I was getting was that my log in details were incorrect. The password retrieval gave me the message Fix errors: Card is inactive.

I'm not too worried; GC-->MO is easy enough and only marginally more expensive. I was just surprised to only get a single load.

Actually MVD charges $1.95 and not $.50 per CA. $.50 is what is charged when you do a reg debit transaction eg get MOs

So your bal s/b a - $.95 and not a +$.50

Ah ha! So if I load again it will work? I may have to experiment.

Yes, what craz said is correct. I asked because I'm starting to think a lot of reports in here of being locked out are people with negative balances who don't realize it and/or don't realize that's what is causing the lockout. What you describe with password not working, even when attempting to reset is the same thing that happened to me early on. Everything makes it look like you've been shut down (essentially, you have), but the real problem is that you owe them money. Load enough to go positive again and you should be fine.

I have three MVDs (well, one is in the wife's name), don't go crazy with any, do an occasional "real" purchase to generate some modest fees, and do a $2K CA on each per month. No problems for a long time. Still going strong with all.

Everyone thought the same as U until all their cards were shut down and their money stuck for months. Read last 20 pages. Your day will come soon!

I've read all. Not saying it won't/can't happen... just saying I've been in the clear for quite a while with all cards. Maybe dumb luck, maybe my approach, maybe both.

Separately, I was commenting upon the possibility of some people *thinking* they have been shut down because of the way it appears, but really just having negative balances.

My MVD1 went into "inactive" status last week. I sent in all the nonsense ID paperwork and now I am in "spend down" mode. Can still log in and access my account, which has a $9,580+ balance.

Will see if I can CA $9,580 today and then reload another $5k over the next two days, and then withdraw before the 72 hours window. Will report back on what works and what doesn't.

itchyfeet123 Jan 7, 2014 11:32 am

Loaded again. Still no online access. Cash advance declined. Will call later, maybe try MO.

It really seems like MVD has come down HARD on card closures over the last 30-45 days. I was really hoping the good days would make it until May for me when my 5x card promo ends but for now it will be the constant grind.

I do suggest loading cards and unloading within the bank branch. Do not let cash sit on the account at all. Their cashout procedure SUCKS.

Onevanilla can be a good alternative only $1 more which U can afford with 5xcard and get MO or BP at walmart.

Its time we accept the death of mvd and start to discuss life after.....

Odd question.

Has anyone who had cleared compliance (ID docs etc.) been subsequently asked for docs on other accounts (cards)?

Although cards are treated as independent accounts I want to know if compliance is done just per SSN and is valid across all accounts.
