I'll still have no trouble getting the $2,000 I just loaded out, since I'm in "spend down." But reloading was shut down real fast!

Ditto. Strange algorithm though.

Yesterday I loaded $2.5k no problem (I knew it was likely to close). Today loaded 2 VR and got closed before I could load the 3rd. Total on card is $8k so apparently you can (could?) load larger amounst over time (loaded over a week). Still have phone access. Will CA it all out later today.

Then I went to the VR site to reload the card. I loaded the first 4 VRs just fine. But when I tried to load the 5th, I got an error message. Logged back in to my MVD account, and was already in "spend down" mode.

So it took less than the amount of time it takes to load 5 VRs for their computers to nab me! And I had never even used the card in an "inappropriate" way.

So lets say you purchase and load $500 on a new MVD card but do not register online/activate it. Can you automatically still use it as a gift card in spenddown mode and just CA the money off?

Banks that will CA from a temp card are harder to find.

I lost online access today. It was OK yesterday and status was Active. I have not used MVD card for 4 weeks and have about $10 on the card. No load/unload in the past 4 weeks either but before that lots of load/unload. Just another data point.

Onevanilla visa prepaid is a temp card?

My suspended MVD card suddenly became active today with balance of $2k.
Should I try to load it with VR slowly or load as many VRs as possible and unload immediately?

No. Its a Visa GC

The last time I tried to activate a temp card after activating maybe ~5 previous ones during a 5 month period or so they wouldn't let me and I had to use it for online purchases only, so I drained it w/ AP... so they did wise up from when it first started and you could CA many cards without activating the permanent ones. I stopped dealing with them when that happened to not give myself any future headaches...
