So, the cashier has to ring up your purchase split between the Vanilla GC and another funding source for the extra $3.95 due. Some just don't know how, some just don't want to be bothered, and some think it's against the rules. But some just ring it right up. All you can do is try.

that is... IF you can find the beans.

HAHAHAHA!!! Yeah, you got me there!

I'm so used to maxing out the cards that I plum forgot you could load anything less than the max.

ok I caught up reading the last 15 pages....mostly drivil and nonsense, and some real stupidity. It prompts me to change my signature. I hope all the spoon fed, brain dead blog readers buy the wrong vanilla and decide to quit playing with stuff they don't understand. I mean no offense but if you cant tell the difference between a prepaid card, a gift card, and a reload card you don't need to be playing games with them.

here are a few answers for the past 15 pages.

You have to call the number on the back of the reload card and have your BB card in hand to load it....the vanilla reload system automated line will take a 15 OR 16 digit card number. You have to have a permanent bluebird card (not the temporary one you bought at walmart) and you have to go online to bluebird and register and activate it (or activate it by phone) BEFORE you try and load a vanilla reload onto it. It only takes a minute after you hang up from reloading for it to show up on your online bluebird account.

I was told today by the Chase approval people my INK card was approved the 27th with a CL of 18k and to expect it in 5-7 business days.

The guy who bought the wrong card had his question answered 2 posts before his at 1:30 but he continued to freak out and post for pages after.

I agree that most posts are about the lack of beans and worrying about what OD will do and what Chase will do and what wallyworld will do, and what the cardnails will do if we stop talking in code...none of that matters this is supposed to be about Bluebird and it capabilities and limitations all of which can be summed up in a few posts...the rest is just clucking noises from the henhouse.

BTW after buying the last bean with my amex gold today at one store, I found a fully stocked rack at another store, so after I meet the spend on the first INK i may go for a second card...while going slow is the best way, with all the hub bub I plan on getting my 10k spend over quickly claiming to set up a new office in my new house. If 5X is still around I will go slower on the second card.

Let the bloggers hold hands with the newbs and explain which beans to buy and why, stop the useless jibber-jabber, and just report on the bluebird card here.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I guess.

Look, not everyone was born with a silver vanilla spoon in their mouth. You have to start somewhere. I suspect I've been playing this game longer than you have (like since the beginning of frequent flyer programs), and have adapted to the times. It seems pretty obvious that the latest part of the ff game is now with these non-bank cards. There's obviously a bit of risk involved in this game -- more than there is with, say, churning credit cards -- and there's also more secrecy involved, probably because people know that what they're doing isn't exactly, um, kosher.

I know that many of the players here feel a need for secrecy, but the cat is out of the bag and the many blog posts will definitely get more flyertalkers involved. That's life. It also means there will be some newbie mistakes, perhaps because the secrecy makes this game a bit complicated to figure out. I've been helping newbies on flyertalk for well over a decade, as I know we all have to start someplace. I think this forum will be a better one if folks accept the reality of the situation, and offer a helping hand to those joining the game "late."

I see a few complaining about code and slang well of course there are many sources but with this one being large and valuable I think it is a positive thing. Make someone read and work

I'm all for helping newbies, but...you really want the newbies to be at least a little self-sufficient. First comment on today's MMS post demonstrates the issue with trying to make everything idiot-proof. Made me cringe a little.

Any ideas about establishing direct deposit (using ACH or other non-payroll methods)? Anyone try to link to a brokerage or bank using the Amex form or other method? Thanks.

You could load your Bluebird card from your Amex @ Walmart (or Vanilla Reload), and then pay off the Amex balance with Bluebird. Though I doubt Amex will award you points to load when using their own credit or charge cards.

The spoon feeding by MMS is getting a bit absurd. I suspect that by next week, he'll offer to personally travel to someone's house and hold their hand as they search for the necessary materials.

Just about everything about the Bluebird card has been reported here. Should FT threads simply become one big wiki post and not any sort of community? Remember, none of us makes a dime posting anything here in terms of income. Anything any of us does is out of generosity, nothing more, nothing less. If some people don't feel like being quite as generous as others, there is nothing to be done about it. I feel a lot of this can't be taught, either you read it and understand it or you don't.

Well actually, the easiest, fastest way to load your Bluebird with a Vanilla Reload card is online, at www.vanillareload.com. It updates instantaneously. MMS has a blog post about it today, if you have any questions.

And then he'll offer to take them to the store...
then escort them to the register...
then since he will be holding their wallet because they wont know which credit card to use...
he'll then sign the card pad for them....
then to avoid further confusion, he'll actually demonstrate how to scratch off the serial label because that's really one of the biggest hurdles...
All of which it seems are steps which are really beyond most people's ability comprehend and execute properly.

You dont need codes, innuendo, or even the ability to read, everyone's wish will be granted.

If we could just simply remove all this silly work, steps, and especially discretion, I think its fair to just request the miles and points magically appear into our accounts whenever we snap our fingers.

Trick or treat!

I'm giving out Vanilla Reload cards instead of candy tonight, if you can find my house!

Anyone else find anywhere Bluebird doesn't work to buy something?
