Stayed at the Amans in Japan in June 2016. While the Tokyo property from the hardware stand point is one of the best we have been, service was definitely not Aman and concierge managwr was arrogant and unhelpful. MO Tokyo has so much better service so we really hope Aman gets their act together by now.

Stayed Amanpulo over Christmas 2016 - political stance aside, it is hard to beat the beach quality there...

By the way has anyone experienced lack of response from reservations at Aman recently? I have been trying to put an India trip together and neither the properties nor central reservations answer any emails it seems!

Short update: We ended up really loving Wana. It's very authentic Aman style in a perfect and remote setting, but not "wow" at first sight like all the new ones. GMs of Wana were absent (for a whole month!). Manager in charge Wildan was caring and very present. Unfortunately he will retire in February. Indonesian food very good, Western food not so, they have some work to do in that regard.

Kila is certainly "wow" at first sight, still one of the most stunning hotels in the world - Ernst L is great, caring and attentive. Very Aman. F&B fantastic.

So Dari was the only low-point of this trip, fortunately.

Sally left Amansara?

I saw someone wrote that Sally left Amansara. Is she still with Aman?
She was great when I stayed there and previously as Amandari.

Also Amansara had the best food of any of the 6 Amans that I've stayed!

Sally is taking a much needed break & is I think being persuaded to return to the Aman fold . Really hope she does ..

The Bali Amans have great food / meals too , particularly with Shane L overseeing AmanIndo now . Nusa in particular , Italian restaurant much much better & with new Italian chef , Lorenzo B . Newly arrived from La Petite Maison , Istanbul .

Sadly, don't think she will return soon and if she does, likely not to Siem Reap. Would really love to see her again at an Aman.

Planing to visit Bali Aman´s in June. Will need to dive since haven´t for a while and just booked Raja Ampat Liveboard in November (no Aman). In total we´ll have maybe 7-9 nights and I´m considering Wana. How complicated is transfer from DPS? Other option is just to dive 2-3 days and then staying with Aman. (Kila,Nusa,Dari)

Glad you love Wana , perhaps we should return in June ( again ) since it was many Junes ago since we stayed .
Did you manage to dive ? Go to the falls ?
Will like to do the house reef wall if I go , since had another injury last & had to skip it .

Might just meet you landing . We are planning Kila & Nusa towards end June .

Transfers was ok many moons ago by float plane but this service has stopped for now . Aman is currently negotiating to reinstate something similar .
Not complicated if staying with Aman .
We can't do Raja Ampat but you should with Aman

We might be there beginning of June.
For Raja Ampat it´ll be really nice to go with Aman but I think I wouldn´t really concentrate on diving anymore...

Just finished up a stay at Aman Tokyo and wanted to post some thoughts. (Not sure if it goes in this thread or the Tokyo hotels thread.) I stayed in the corner suite facing Imperial Palace and Fuji. Compared to my previous stay in October, I felt that the service was better even though it wasn't perfect. In fact, I would say that their effort and attitude was on par with what I've experienced at other Amans even though the results were not always polished. All in all, I'm looking forward to my next stay there!

Some pros:

- This time round, I got the daily gifts during turn down (fans, dolls, sake glass, etc) that they didn't have in October.

- As mentioned in a previous post, one of the concierge staff went to Skytree prior to my stay and got my two Pokémon Go Pluses! Might not seem like a big deal, but these are sold out in the US and I didn't have time to get it myself.

- On my last day there, I called down at 11am to get reservations at Sushi Ko Hoten for lunch that day. They secured it without issue.

- Around 4am one night, I needed to go to a convenient store and the one in the building was closed. Someone walked with me to the nearest one.

- I ordered food at a nearby restaurant for dinner and they went and picked it up for me.

Some cons:

- There was a half empty (or half full depending on how you look at it) bottle of white wine in the wine cellar when I checked in. It doesn't matter if this is an Aman or Motel 6, but this is not acceptable.

- One of gifts (the doll) was crushed with a big hole on the bottom when I received it. I called them to exchange, but they should have noticed it.

- I did not receive luggage tags this time. I emailed them and they said it was a mistake and would mail it to me.

- I did not receive the spice/fruit bag for the bathtub on two of the days.

- The pool was really full the first day I was there. 6 of us adults were trying to swim laps, and it didn't work very well.

- On the final bill, I was charged for breakfast one day, which was included for the stay. They refunded it after I mentioned it to them. Speaking of which, I'm still annoyed that they charge to mail postcards!

As you can see, most of the cons are tiny issues but they stand out when we are spoiled and expect perfection. I have toured their different room categories, and I would say that you can't go wrong with any of them. The CS are a bit smaller than the Suites, but the space arrangement and view in the former are better. The Aman Suite seems like it's a larger Suite in the corner. I think the deluxe rooms are a better value than the premier rooms. The premier rooms are wider and (perhaps importantly) have a wider bathtub, but the entry-level deluxe rooms are very nice already.

two (so far?) - both around lake with no ocean view, right?

if any sold as residences, it'd be interesting if other amans did them
or future amans could do as room outside cities (without pool in cities)

pools are bigger, 40m2 vs 30m2

residence pools may be in 130m2 range
