This was an invaluable service and saved a lot of time and a big headache upon arrival. The airport was very, very busy, and being able to jump just about every queue was a god-send. The arrival service is included by Aman, and makes selecting Aman a very good choice, although I understand some arrival services are available for the general public as well. Arrival service in Bali is a must in my opinion.

The arrival service representative assisted me in collecting my luggage, and then passed me along to a white clad Amandari employee who greeted me and assisted me in the rest of the way to the waiting Amandari vehicle. The vehicle was not a luxury vehicle, but was a comfortable and clean mini van, and I was offered a cold cloth, a cold bottle of water, and some peanut snacks for the hour or so drive to Amandari, which is located in Ubud, to the north of the airport. The extremely pleasant and efficient arrival made me feel welcome and extraordinarily well taken care of, and the pleasant drive with a very helpful driver who explained many things about Bali along the way, was an extraordinary way to arrive. It was an appropriate introduction to Aman Resorts.

I was blown away by how personalized the experiences...were, even by Aman's highest of standards.

I’d never met Gary Tyson, Amantaka’s General Manager, before this stay, but given what he’s accomplished at Amantaka, he is someone we will now follow to whatever resort he happens to oversee. What he has done in creating service standards of the utmost polish and skill in a location where there was no former 5-star experience from which to draw, is astounding. (And if you get a chance, have him tell you about the process he went through of hiring and training new employees in a “fake Amantaka” he created to serve as a training site during the construction of the resort.) Aman resorts have spoiled many of us by setting the highest bar in the world for service and housekeeping standards, and even within this stiff competition, Amantaka rises to the very top.

I have been to many Four Season and other very high end resorts all over the world. Although they are fabulous too, there is a subtle difference between the way Aman resorts goes about taking care of their guests. They genuinely care about your well being. They never make you feel like they are doing you a favor. They have truly mastered the fine art of service to perfection.

Under Colony, Amanresorts also sold a resort in Australia and gave up management contracts of hotels in Kuala Lumpur, Yangon, and Bagnols, France.

Amanresorts assets include majority ownership of eight resorts and minority stakes in the other three.
majority - puri and indonesia (dari 50%?) (bora bora?) (jena 50%?)
bora bora announced closure may 2008, closed oct 2008

Pierre&Cédric reports jena spa/residences are finally beginning development
that would leave these projects undeveloped - nusa spa & ruya spa/residences
wonder whether ritz carlton reserve impacted long ago proposed 9-12 dari residences
interestingly (or maybe unsurprising) dari sits on complicated set of leasehold plots
if aman owns majority of hotel bora bora, maybe doronin would be interested in residences
i found it odd karma resorts has proposed residences next to amankila (rather than aman)

amex FHR 4th nt free >
bali, sara, taka - ends this month (bali Exclusives from $600 before free night)
jena - ends next month (jena has had other free night offers recently/before)

interesting (happened after amanresorts was sold)
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserR...uz_Region.html
amanjena last weekend of August 2014

...At 11am on the day of check out I received an abrupt telephone call from management stating we were to leave the hotel property in its entirety by 12 noon. Management panicked when our butler fed back to them that we were nearly packed and heading to lunch at the poolside bar! We were informed that our table in the restaurant booked for 12 noon and...spa treatments...booked for 2pm and 4pm would not be honoured.

...At the time of check out and in later emails management insisted that we were informed that the hotel was being privately hired on our last day.
cant recall, someone may have posted social media from this >

That's horrible to read...

When corporate stops caring and a property lies then that's a big problem.

i directly contacted management in aman headquarters thinking they would be shocked at these revelations, I was given the email address of the aman ceo who could not take the time to reply to any of my emails.

my mistake, though not specific, plus context >

last weekend of August 2014
aug 2014 - jolivet CEO, following court ruling, following zecha > doronin > zecha > jolivet
with jul 31 2014 being zecha departure, and also seems jolivet "interim" at one point

mass firing at "headquarters" (in may when zecha out?) london HQ & CMO announced in jun

recently >

part of context is whether it was doronin hosting/sending guests at last minute
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luxur...l#post24631257
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/luxur...l#post25849657

this is really the key >
Management panicked when our butler fed back
table..booked for 12 noon..spa..booked for 2pm and 4pm
when were bookings made by which staff - if bookings canceled, canceled by which staff
was butler unaware, as well as other staff (if staff fired, were they told by aug 2014)
was even "management" unaware of what time the incoming guests were arriving
who were incoming guests and what was importance (or not) of clearing hotel at noon
if it was important, at least a lack of awareness, if only calling one hour before noon

did guest book with hotel or via amex - if amex, did amex book/confirm table/spa
(if via amex, did amex fail to) also, not honoring FHR 4pm checkout is not unusual
did amex receive any communications that they then failed to pass along to guest
(some here have had management communications facilitated by virtuoso, not amex)

wonder when (in advance) they announced jun 7 2015 - oct 17 2015 closure

regardless, Pierre&Cédric posted that recent stay over holidays went very well

Amangalla

I am in the process of writing a trip report on a recent trip to Sri Lanka, but figured in the meantime I would include the link to my pics from Amangalla here. I stayed in room #25 which was a chamber.

So are any other FT members going to the London Aman event on the 22nd?

Just got back in from the London event. It was good fun and great to meet a lot of the Aman staff, including many GMs. Doronin, Olivier Jolivet and Lisa Bovio were there, with Lisa in particular being absolutely wonderful. I think I've picked up half of Aman corporates business cards now. Unfortunately Sally (Amansara) could not attend as she broke her foot a few days earlier.

They had a Japanese calligrapher there who would draw your name and present it to you, all designed to semi-promo the opening of Amanemu. Not sure if it's been said elsewhere, but Aman Tokyo GM is moving on.

It sounds like they will be having more of these events in future cities in Europe and America. I'd recommend people to attend if they're thinking about it.
