Nice to know. @BESVISOR any opening specials for us yet?
LOL! Haven't checked yet but I'm sure an upgrade at booking can be secured to say the least

Is the consensus still that the MO is the right choice (reluctant to use "best" because subjectivity and all)? Looking for a place to relax for a couple days after flying from NA and before going onward to Bhutan. Relatively price insensitive (within reason) for this trip.

The main wing (River Wing) closes Monday for the next few months. Expect some facilities to be closed during the duration (including Lord Jim’s, where the farewell party was tonight). Also can expect higher than normal rates due to increased suite mix in the Garden Wing and very, very limited count of rooms.

Just back from a week at the Siam. Loved it! We had a pool villa which was gorgeous and very spacious. Very comfortable bed, great bathroom and lots of storage space for everything. We enjoyed having our private pool and courtyard which was close to the river, the pool and restaurant. The hotel is really an oasis away from all the noise of a big city and it is just so beautiful and green with art deco/antique furniture and pieces everywhere and a fantastic spa plus a great pool by the river and a very good gym, even used by the Thai royal family. We had been warned that the hotel was far from the center of Bangkok, but we actually found that an advantage. Firstly because it was so peaceful, but also we did not find it very far from things. Used the hotel shuttle boat at peak times and really enjoyed being at the river to see Bangkok from there, but also the extremely cheap taxies when the traffic was OK, not a problem at all. There are a few nice local restaurants nearby and out butler was fantastic giving us recommendations on everything from where to go and what to eat. We have not tried the MO, but stayed at Peninsula last time we were in Bangkok and preferred the much smaller and intimate Siam to that. Had lots of great food including everything from street food in Chinatown and meals at Bo.Lan and Nahm, both recommended. We really love Bangkok! It is a city that has everything: Think a khlong tour in a traditional longtail boat in the morning and a visit to the fantastic new and very modern shopping mall ICON Siam in the afternoon - such a great mix. Also recommend visiting one of the fantastic roof top bars with sunset views over the city; We went to two and enjoyed both a lot.
